so if the recent bonus isn't a bonus but the bonus was a bonus 4 years ago, then it must be a bonus :D.

Yes, but at a rate on par with other "third party" cards -- which will make them as useless as Air Miles for getting a business class flight to Asia.

I think that is the key statement in the Air Canada press release. I suspect there will be no more J class redemptions - putting this program on a par with all the other mediocre 1% return programs. Ughhhh. What to do except collect Amex MR and see where that program leads? I plan to burn my remaining Aeroplan miles. Anyone have suggestions for an alternate Star Alliance program in which to collect miles?

Yes. Singapore. MR-SPG-Singapore. No regrets...
If you want miles that are actually worth redeeming somewhere, United, despite all its faults, is still a viable program. |
For me, my next strategy is to save AMEX MR, transfer to SPG, and then to Marriott Travel Packages.

Weird. Applied for the AS card through GCR on May 12. App errors out. Didn't give it a second thought. Then today, got the card in the mail! But...no GCR rebate! Anyone else experience this recently, but actually get the rebate?
|
Went through the AS application process just now and it went all the way through to completion. I'll wait on the GCR referral tracker to see if it gets credited. Any idea how long it would normally take?

Check your GCR click history at https://www.greatcanadianrebates.ca/ClickHistory/ to see if there's history on the day you applied. The rebate is, of course, not going to show up right away. |

SPG nights and flights is also worth checking out. 120,000 AMEX pointas = 60k SPG points + 50k Airline points. |

120,000 AMEX pointas = 60k SPG points + 50k Airline points. 120k Amex = 5 nights cat 3 hotel + 50k airline miles or 140k Amex = 5 nights cat 4 hotel + 50k airline miles Cat 3 hotel is 7k SPG per night, and cat 4 is 10k, right? With 5th night free, it means: 56k Amex = 5 nights cat 3 hotel (28k SPG value) + 64k Amex = 50k airline miles or 80k Amex = 5 nights cat 4 hotel (40k SPG value) + 60k Amex = 50k airline miles I would say this SPG package may only make sense if you really need those 5 nights in that hotel which has very expensive cash rates for those nights, and you don't already have SPG points. Otherwise, if your main goal is airline miles, then Marriott packages are a better deal. |

So, early in May, twice, I went through GCR's website to apply for an Alaska MBNA MC.
As you may recall, the GCR website is up and referring the card, but MBNA's website had de-listed the card. Each time, at the end of the application, and after a long wait, I got an error message. Good news: Despite getting an error message at the end of the application, I just received an Alaska Airlines MC in the mail. I made 2 applications over the span of about a week. I'll let you know if I get a second envelope from MBNA, too. :D Bad news?: I'm not very familiar with GCR's interface... - I have tracking ID's in my Click History for both card applications - GCR interface says "• You have 0 active referrals." Should it say that I have 1 (or 2!) active referrals?? I've just received a second Alaska Airlines MBNA MC in the mail; both in the same month. YMMV. :D |
I applied for MBNA Alaska and got an error message at the end.
Today I got a notice from Canada Post from MBNA to confirm my identity. (Even though I already had a previous Alaska MasterCard account and currently have a Best Western card) The card will be mailed within 14 days... |
Signed up for the RBC Westjet Mastercard a while back.
Today I checked my account at WS and noticed there was an extra 50 Westjet Dollars in my account. I don't know if it was related to signing up for the card or not. In any event, if you've got them, they need to be used by 22:59, May 28th. |

I recently signed up for the World Elite Master Card.
When I went to check yesterday, I noticed that in addition to the 250 dollars that came with it, there was an extra 50, which was set to expire tonight. It's only that bonus 50 that are set to expire tonight. Sorry for the confusion. |

Questions for you more experienced / knowledgeable folks...
- Cancelled my Scotia Gold Amex a month ago. Is there an official policy or does anyone have any anectodal evidence re: what the window is before I can re-apply? Quite enjoyed that $250 bonus... - Background: recently applied for and got an AMEX Biz Gold. Plan on cancelling my AMEX Personal Gold (and re-applying in 6mo or so). Also hold a TDAVI. Planned on cancelling that as well (again, to re-apply in 6 mo or so). That said, I would like to have a Visa as well so how long does the Chase Marriott Visa bar you from the card after a recent application? |

That said, I would like to have a Visa as well so how long does the Chase Marriott Visa bar you from the card after a recent application? With signs that Chase may be leaving the Canadian scene, they may be getting even more stringent with new applications (eg., they are no longer offering the Chase Amazon.ca Visa card to new applicants, and there's some speculation that the Chase Marriott card may be winding down its days by this July). So on the one hand, Chase may be tough to churn, but on the other hand there may be a closing window on the Chase Marriott card. All speculation though, so wrap it up and give it a boot if you'd like! :) There's no need to cancel the TDAVI before reapplying for another one, at least in my experience. Many people have opened multiple concurrent TDAVI cards, and not even waiting the prescribed 6 months (in their T&Cs) before reapplying. But, if you don't want to test those waters then consider doing a product switch to a no-fee TD card, and THEN reapplying...this should safe-guard you from having a cancelled card re-activating on a new application submitted within 3 months after closing it. I can confirm that the CIBC Aerogold Infinite Visa is still 15K and FYF if you snag a kiosk rep while airside at YYZ (as of earlier this month, May 2017). Allot about 20-30 minutes for this though, so if you have a quick connection to catch, don't bother. |

As for the Scotia Amex, I tried applying recently and the website bounced my application. When I called in to ask, they told me to sign up in branch instead. Yeesh. |

On this point, has anyone snagged this FYF offer in branch lately? I'm on the fence but I was wondering if the offer still stands in case I decide to actually do it.

However, I think they only 'officially' have the FYF on their crappy (IMHO) Aventura cards. But, if you're an existing CIBC client (or a 'promising' new customer), they may be take money from their local branch funding that is allocated to keep you 'happy', by applying a manual credit to offset to the card's $120 annual fee. When people report that it's still FYF in-branch, I think this is what is happening behind the scene, so YMMV. |
Oh right, I keep forgetting about the existing client factor. I swear I should write some of this stuff down! :)
I guess I'll just wait until I'm passing through YYZ with a few moments to kill and try my luck at one of the kiosks... |

Got hubby the TD card in January, got the 15,000 sign up bonus but then he forgot about the card..... he only spent $400 on it in the first 3 months but he signed up through GCR....is he still eligible for the 10,000 after 3 months bonus? Please??
I read in an earlier post that 'affiliates' don't have to do the $1,000 spend.... |

I read in an earlier post that 'affiliates' don't have to do the $1,000 spend.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-c...l#post26158193 Wiki needs updating, but the info there applies to his GCR application. He shouldn't need to spend $1K if he can confirm his application used the GCR source code. The bonus 10K will probably post in his fourth statement. |
Does anybody have any experience with churning the Case Marriott card? I know T&C's say that sign-up bonuses are restricted to once a life-time but does this pan out in the end or have people been successful in getting more than one sign-up bonus through churning these cards?

There's also the issue of the free category 1-4 certificate. That's been pretty much confirmed as only for new applicants. |

I've only had one personally. But there are many reports in this thread about successful re-applications for this card. The biggest caveat with Chase is that you need to wait between applications longer than you normally would AND Chase is sensitive to recent application history. If it were me, I'd wait three months since my last app (of another card from another issuer) and at least 6 months (probably a year) since I last had this specific card.

Thanks. He already had his fourth statement and no points. I called them, went through three different people, all acting like they have never heard of GCR and didn't know what a tracking number was. Nevertheless, after 30 minutes, we got the points! It just shouldn't be that hard......
