As pointed out at rewardscanada.ca
when you log in to your Aeroplan account, look for a banner to get 500 miles for adding your email address to your profile.

Is the general consensus that you still can't hold more than 1 Alaska card at a time? I do have a card app coming up soon as all AS cards we cancelled a few months back.

Yes this was a change implemented a while back.

So does everyone know that Cathay Pacific has joined Aeroplan as an airline partner?

crimsona Feb 2, 2017 9:41 am

Very specific routes only, more so for cash tickets where they sell onward flights via Hong Kong already

I know, but the awards will require less miles if redeemed for using Alaska Miles

Ohhh - didn't know that. Anyone know if you can redeem on the CX YVR-JFK flight that originates in HKG? I can't find anything online that specifies if redemptions are allowed for non-Asian origins/destinations.

In the Award chart, Canada-US via CX is listed as one-way:

Y: 17.5k
PE: 20k
J: 25k
F: 35k

The alaska award chart is quite easy to browse and shows all that's allowed:

https://www.alaskaair.com/content/mi...s/award-charts

I believe the website doesn't show CX award space so you'll have to search via e.g. ba.com though.

Has anyone tried applying for the current CIBC aventura welcome bonus promo with the first year AF waived?

Curious if you are able to to get the AF rebate even if you had a CIBC card before. I realize the T&Cs say otherwise but wanted to see if there are actual datapoints suggesting it's possible.

Search the internet and there was an offer for 50,000 points for a Canadian branded Marriott credit card. This included a free night in a cat. 1-4 hotel. I found this offer last Nov. and applied.

The free night in a cat. 1-4 is no longer offered as part of the welcome bonus. There is a free anniversary night in a cat. 1-5.

The anniversary night also takes its sweet time to post. Sign-up for card Feb 1 last year,no sign of either the fifteen elite nights nor the annual free night

Need both!

MBNA.ca online access issues *resolved*

Not sure if I should post this here, or at the MBNA Alaska Air MC thread.

The past few weeks I have not been able to sign into MBNA.ca to access my card accounts/info. So, I had to call into MBNA's online banking support (1-800-347-6262 9a-11p ET) to get assistance. The rep mentioned that it's most likely related to a number of cancelled card accounts that never got sloughed off after they were closed. She said there's no guarantees, but she'll try to clean up the account and then see if I can get back online.

So, she takes a look into it, and then gives a little sigh. Says, "you have a LOT of extra accounts on file here!". She asked if I wanted to stay on the line, or optionally hang up while she works on it, and then I can try logging in later tonight. I chose to stay online.

Ok, click-clack, clickety-clack. 15 minutes later she comes back to tell me to try logging in. BINGO! We are HOT again!

She said "the problem is that you have 1, 2, 3, 4,....7 cancelled cards on the profile!". And I said "Oh, really?" :o

And furthermore: "You have...hmm, let me see....<counting, counting, counting...> 13 closed card accounts!". And I said "Ooopsies!".
http://i.imgur.com/rMoqcIx.gif

Phew...now I can see clearly which cards are still opened, and which are to be closed, so I can start another churn cycle.

How many card accounts you saw last time you signed in (2 weeks ago)? I only have 3 accounts assigned to my on banking profile. I canceled 1 some time ago and had no issues getting in until few days ago.

TBH, I don't really remember. I think it was at least 8, because I remember thinking and wondering to myself if I really did cancel the 3 Alaska cards that were listed there. But, there were also a couple of Best Western cards too. It was a mess, so now I'm glad it's all cleaned up and back to 3 live cards.

echino Feb 9, 2017 9:14 pm

I had Alaska card that I cancelled a couple of months ago, and got the 2% cash back mbna card instead. Both cards had been showing up in my online account until about a couple of weeks ago, when I suddenly could not log in any more. I called, they fixed something, now I can log in fine, but only the current active 2% cash back card is showing in my profile. Alaska card is no longer showing there.

My plan is to reapply for the Alaska card about 3 months after cancelling. Will they approve it if I currently have another active mbna card (non-Alaska)?

I am having trouble logging into my MBNA online account too. When I spoke to tech support they said they are having a system wide issue with the online login. Hope it is resolved soon.

Yes, I've tried every day since Saturday to log in. It's quite the issue they're having.

JJonahJ Feb 9, 2017 11:30 pm

Guys, as I mentioned in my post, just call MBNA's online banking support and mention that you've heard that cancelled cards at the online page is the issue and they should be able to fix it for you. If that's your case, I mean.

Mine is an active card. Glad there's a fix for cancelled cards at least.

Ah. I didn't realize that having one cancelled card in my profile would be causing the login problem. I have 12 less cancelled cards in my profile than you did.

Should be no problem. Even better, actually. MBNA had been delaying our card applications because of the duplicate concurrent/active cards in our files, so they decided to shut down our older cards, before continuing with the process. Now we are cancelling our cards ahead of time, before applying for that same card product, so that they don't do it for us on our behalf.

pokee Feb 10, 2017 6:19 pm

I had them shut down my profile because of the cancelled cards still sitting there. I created a new one when I got my new AS MC.

My sister canceles her rbc westjet mastercard not knowing she would lose her unused 99$ companion flight. She now needs one, what is the chance of opening a new account 2 montha later? Will she get her westjet dollars and companion voucher? The card has an up front annual fee so as long as shes paying that she should be fine I would think?

Any experience with this or any other rbc mastercard?

Alternative:
You could apply for the card yourself, and buy the ticket and companion fare through your card.

Believe for that to work one of the pax has to be the card or voucher holder.

If she can get approved thru an online application, then she would also get the $250 welcome wj dollars,as well as new companion ticket voucher. If she is not immediately approved and has to call....then the old account may be reopened and she would have to wait for the next year's companion voucher.

A pax has to be the cardholder. The pax for the voucher has to be booked on the same flight as the c/h.

Authorized User and minimum spend?

If I add an authorized user as soon as a card is activated, does that person's spending contribute toward the minimum spend requirement? Does it matter which AmEx card?

Yes but the authorized user must first get the card, no?

Agreed, but you have three month's to make the spend, and I would imagine the card would reach the user in two weeks or less.

The answer to your question above is still yes as the charges by an authorized user are covered by you and these are posted to your account. Get her spending.

Yes, the authorized user's supplementary card will add up and contribute to the minimum spending requirement of your primary Amex card. So, when you added an AU for your Business Platinum card, it will contribute towards your Biz Plat's minimum spending. If you open a Personal Gold MR card, then you will have to add an AU for the Gold card, and again, spending on THIS supplementary card contributes to the spending of your Personal Gold card.

Amex supplementary cards are NOT free for the Plat and Biz Plat MR cards, in case you're not aware. They do have a fee. But for the Gold and Biz Gold cards, they are free or at least FYF. :)
