shop.ca: 15 Aeroplan miles per $1 spent: Any good?

Aeroplan.ca is now promoting the shop.ca website.

^ Until May 16, get 15 Aeroplan miles per $1 spent, for first purchase only.

:td: Most of the merchandise available on shop.ca seems to be above market price, or at least it's No Great Deal.

:td: Gift cards? Yes, shop.ca has a gift card category, which seemed tantalizing. But all I see is shop.ca gift cards.

 So: can anyone find items on this site that are priced well, or at least prices that are at least the same as market? For anyone still values Aeroplan points at 1 cent, this promo would be a 16% value.

:D Thanks for your help. It'd be a thrill for the MilesBuzz! thread to have some buzz about miles that doesn't involve a credit card signup.

Remember there was a lot of Amex Gold sign ups at the beg on the year. They are probably worried that everyone will transfer to BA and so am hoping that we will have June transfer....dont think Aeroplan will ever come back....

so either we'll get a bonus june, which they'll announce sometime mid-may I guess, or we don't get a bonus. bleh.

but then amex is smart cuz they're keeping us waiting and we might just transfer without the bonus :P

Great summary of the net value. Great one to churn! Has anyone had success churning this one? I don't recall seeing anything that said it cannot be done because the sign-up bonus is only valid once, per person.

Need some advice from my fellow Canadian FT'ers - if this questions has been answered elsewhere please let me know. Mr prmetime and I are looking at one or two hotel program-based credit cards to provide us with some point accumulation for our travels. We primarily travel to Hawaii, Vegas and Europe at this point in time but would also be looking at other using this(these) cards in other parts of Canada, the U.S. and eventually Asia. We travel for personal trips 3-4 times per year. We are fine staying in 3-4 star hotels but would like to stretch our $ as far as possible. We would really appreciate any advice you have to offer. Thanks in advance.

  1. Chase Marriot Visa with waived first year fees ($120/yr thereafter), 50,000 Marriott Rewards welcome points, a 1-nite e-certificate good for up to Cat-4, just spend $1 to qualify. It's an ongoing promo, with Chase issuing new signup offers on a monthly basis. There is a current promo link that expires May 31st, 2014, but it will probably be replaced by another one later this month. Read about it here:
    http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marri...l#post22780967

  2. MBNA Choice Privileges MC - apply through GCR and get a $60 cash rebate, on top of the current elevated 24,000 point signup (normally only 8,000)...a no fee card, just spend $1 to qualify. Promo ends June 9th, 2014. Read about it here:
    http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/choic...l#post22489372

  3. MBNA Best Western MC - you can sign up through GCR and get a $60 cash rebate, but only 20,000 welcome points. Better to wait for MBNA to promo it for 50,000 or 60,000 points (usually not offered at this point level at GCR)...a no fee card, but requires $1K or $2K spending to get 50K or 60K points. Not currently promo'd at this higher points offering, so wait for it to come around...it's been promo'd three times in about 18 months.

I just received an email offer from BW for 50,000 points. Offer expires July 15, 2014. Is there a way to double dip via GCR?

Only if clicking through the GCR link gets you that bonus...

You could maybe try going through the GCR link, then calling up MBNA saying you just got this promo email and would like to amend the application, but that's quite risky...

No particular reason. I just figured I'd let someone else have some fun. Besides, my keyboard needs an oil change. :p

Has anyone who had trouble getting the 15,000 Marriott points via the Chase credit card supplementary user bonus received them yet?

I seem to have been playing a "he said, she said" game between Marriott rewards and Chase. Both say they have sent messages to each other and they "are on it." But they still haven't posted and both said once it is figured out they will post. I guess I will see once the upcoming cycle ends if anything happens but I have a bad feeling about it.

Anyone with success have any advice how to deal with these two companies?

crimsona May 9, 2014 7:57 am

yes I got them two days before my April statement posted

Nope, still waiting for mine and Mr. Fink's too, depsite both Chase and Marriott say they are 'on it' and it would 'for sure post by the end of this (2weeks ago) week'. I have given up and am just waiting for the May statement to post before I start the next round of phone calls. I had wanted to use them for a stay May 1st so I lost that opportunity :(

Marriott Rewards Plus Points: Social media promo

On Facebook and on Twitter, I maintain two accounts:
one I use for real stuff, and one I use for internet promotions like the following.

Marriott Rewards Plus Points
Earn points by promoting Marriott Rewards on social media.

A Flyertalk forum on this topic started up yesterday here. Marriott's website says this program is in beta, but most participants on the forum have reported no problems.

I saw nothing in the Terms & Conditions that limits this promo to US residents.

Patrick of rewardscanada.ca has also blogged about this. Similar to social rewards used by the total rewards group in Vegas. Unfortunately limits you to 2000 points monthly.

since the marriott rewards program has many points partners, what is the best partner to choose? i chose aeroplan for now. :)

If you're referring to the Marriott Rewards Plus Points program, then don't choose an airline partner at all. You won't get any points if you do.

FAQ page (located at https://www.marriottrewardspluspoints.com/faq#q4
4. Can I earn airline miles using Plus Points?
No. You can only earn points through Plus Points. If your earning preference is set to miles, you can change your earning preference to points to participate in Plus Points.

Quick question...

If I have the CIBC Aero Classic card and want to upgrade to the gold one, do I get the signup bonus?

Thanks!

I'd call CIBC and ask
If so, simply upgrade without credit check
If not, well, apply for Aero Gold and get 15K bonus, take a credit hit

Let us know, good luck

UPS Store:
250 bonus miles on in-store purchase

"Until May 31, 2014, earn 250 bonus Aeroplan Miles on your next transaction as a Get More member at The UPS Store. Not a Get More member? Sign up and you also get 500 bonus miles upon your first transaction as a Get More member."
Link to promo at Aeroplan website

So if you happen to be near a UPS Store, pick up $1+ worth of envelopes, markers, mailing supplies, etc. Show your Get More card. Get 251 miles.

Roger3592 May 16, 2014 9:08 am

You may need 2 transactions.

From the T&C:
Upon your first transaction as a Get More member, 500 bonus miles will be applied to your Aeroplan Account. From May 5 to May 31, 2014, earn an additional 250 bonus miles on your next transaction.

Roger3592 May 16, 2014 9:25 am

I got 901 according to aeroplan app.
150 for first use with ups/aeroplan
251 for promotional use in May
500 for first use of get more

Nice.... A little mad that they charged me $2 to print a page but really nice to get the aero miles

Just need to do one txn. Just make sure the clerk knows what he/she is doing. They should be able to tell you on the spot that you got 500 sign up points by using the BMGM card for the first time, and also that you got 250 as part of the current spending promo.

We discussed it here and in the few pages that followed, including instructions on how to get the BMGM card. Points will post very quickly...if you conduct the txn by say 9am, it may even show up in your AP account by 10:30am, an hour or so later.

there needs to be a disclaimer up there with the marriott chase card. literally the hardest and most stringest issuer, after 30 mins on the phone, rep wouldnt overlook the fact i had 2 equifax hits in past month but my score 732 going into the application. my first rejection of a credit card app ever.

whats the time period to wait without taking any new inquiries on equifax, because she told me i was on par with what they wanted, just recent inquiries threw my app off..so is it 3 or 6 months? really wish i was more careful and would of done the chase before i did BMO world, would of gotten approved for chase that way

It's "would have" or "would've", not "would of"

Chase Marriott is very stingy, yes, I got denied also as they won't even re-activate my cancelled card within 3 months of cancellation (it's a new credit check anyway)
They tell you to re-apply after 6 months

Instead, apply for Chase Amazon (Free, $20 Amazon.ca credit) if you want the no-FX-fee feature. I did and got approved within few hours

semantics.
anyways regarding chase, or cc's in canada, chase marriott cc has to be by the far the most profitable (and according to accounts above churnable) card in canada, 50k = 5 nights (+ i believe there is some promo where its like 3-4nights and get 1 free) + 1 free night e certificate.. damn thats worth atleast $600-700 with FYF + only 1 Equifax pull...
