Another offer to consider for the Scotia Gold AmEx: lowestrates.ca is offering $75 in GC (Choose between The Keg, Toy'r'us, Indigo, Amazon.ca, FutureShop or Starbucks). As this might be considered a better deal than $40 cashback, I mentioned both offers in the wiki.

TD Business Aeroplan- FYF
If I go thru my Aeroplan website and go to promotions, it shows the TD Business Aeroplan with 30k offer (20k after 1st use + 10k after 1000 spent in 90 days). It also shows FIRST YEAR FREE, however it doesnt say FYF on the TD website...Didnt get a chance to call TD yet...but anyone recently applied for this card.....??

"That's not all! Your annual fee will also be waived for the first year." Looks legit. The "+10K after $1000 spending" is part of the new promo for all of the TD Aero cards, introduced this past month. So, not an outdated page at all. The Aero Infinite Biz is the only one, of the four TD Aero cards (Plat, Infinite, Infinite Priv, Biz) which has the $0 FYF offer according to the Aeroplan website. FWIW, their inaugural launch of the Aeroplan Visas at the beginning of the year also did not mention $0 FYF at the TD web pages for a month or more, but was available via phone or in-branch applications. Perhaps the other cards (Plat, Infinite) are also $0 FYF by dealing with a human? |
might as well add the westjet rbc mastercard to the wiki. As of oct 29 Westjet will be joining all the other airlines and begin charging $25 for the first checked back (westjet is currently the only airline that allows first bag free if, for example, you are flying NYC-YYZ).
the westjet rbc card will allow first bag to be free again, $250 westjet credit signup bonus, and $99 round-trip companion flight every year, earn 1.5% in westjet credit and every dollar you spend. annual fee is $99 |
2. Applies to new TD Aeroplan Visa Business Accounts ("Account") only. Must apply by October 31, 2014. $149 Annual Fee for first Card issued to the business waived for first year only. |
Great find re: the TD Biz Aero Infinite Visa. Thanks!
But before I begin the TD application rigamarole, can anyone say how sticky they are on the "Business" part? Is it like Amex or do they want some kind of supporting documentation? I figure I'd apply anyway but this will help me know how much effort to put into it :) Edit: So I applied using the data from my rental property business. Two things made me nervous: mortgage field maxes out at five figures so I wasn't able to correctly list mortgages on all of my properties, and the fact that nowhere on the TD website is there any mention of the FYF fee waiver. I took screenshots of the AE website but I feel like I am descending into the depths of deniability in which TD will deny that there ever was such an offer :( |

I took screenshots of the AE website but I feel like I am descending into the depths of deniability in which TD will deny that there ever was such an offer :( Anyway, when I tried to apply for the TD Aeroplan Visa Business card earlier this year, they flat out refused to let me apply as a sole proprietorship, using my first name/last name as my company name (which is acceptable by Amex for their Small Biz Gold Rewards card). Phone reps said I could, but they said I would have to contact a branch to setup a business account first. And I spoke with two different branch managers, and both said I needed to have a legitimate business, and that I would need to open a TD Biz banking account (monthly fees) to be eligible to get this card. Looking at the main TD page for the Aero Visa: http://www.tdcanadatrust.com/product...n_business.jsp Important business documents you will need when applying for a TD Business Credit Card for your Small Business If your Small Business is new to TD: Master Business License: for Sole Proprietors or Corporations operating under a trade name Partnership Agreement: for Partnerships Articles of Incorporation: for Corporations BTW, for the FYF, I would definitely apply via phone or in-branch, and not rely on the online application. Should this discussion move to the "Master thread TD Aeroplan credit card"? |
Some details from the Capital One Costco Platinum MasterCard have been published on rewardscanada.ca. Application will be available soon at http://www.capitalone.ca/costco

So, as a sole proprietorship, what qualifies as a "Master Business License"?

OK, so probably not gonna happen for me with TD. I actually do have a business to the extent that rental properties constitute such a thing, but likely not structured so formally as to meet TD's requirements. Thanks for clarifying!

Master Card at Costco Canada
Just returned from shopping at Costco ( Mississauga On. ) Sept 25 2014
For a joke asked if I can pay with mastercard ( World Elite ) they said no problem , and transaction went thru . So for a time being you can use any Mastercard and Amex to pay at Costco Canada , untill Jan 2015 when Amex will no longer be accepted. |
I have a small business that I incorporated under a business name, a GST number, business account, etc., at RBC. However, it's a new business and I have been using personal credit cards for expenses and keeping track on Quickbooks. If I want to apply for a business card that gives good rewards/benefits and hopefully has the annual fee waived for a year, which would be my best bet? Who gives out their cards the easiest?
I have cards at CIBC, RBC and one Amex card. I don't like Cap 1 and had a MC with them that I asked to close out and then they denied me for another card when I have very good credit and have never had an issue with any other cards. I was shocked to be denied but don't want to deal with them anymore. I am an Aeroplan collector and obviously, RBC rewards because of my RBC US Visa card. I just don't have 2 years of business statements to show to get a business credit card so don't know which one to apply for. By the way, has anyone had experience with the RBC US credit cards? http://www.rbcbank.com/banking-in-th...rds/index.html The no fee cards seem to have a lot of benefits, equivalent to my Visa Infinite cards or even better, actually, that I pay $120 for no fee. What's the catch? |

TD will give you FYF (actually "forever" free) if you open a chequing account (they have a special name for it) and keep $5k in it. I have that setup for my First Class Visa and they'll offer to swap in the Visa Infinite Aeroplan (and still get the 15k points).

You might have switch from the First Class VISA to the TD Aeroplan and didn't pay the annual fee on your 1st statement, but I do wonder if you will get that waive next year. |

I'm not sure if this is a one time glitch I've stumbled upon or if it can be done multiple times without being suspicious. I have several amex cards and sent an online bank payment to the wrong card (airmiles earning) by mistake and called amex to have the charge switched to the card with an outstanding balance (aeroplan earning). I had been using the aeroplan card and there was no activity/purchases on the airmiles card so it could not have generated any airmiles. Amex transferred the payment from the airmiles card to the aeroplan card at no cost and I got the value of the payment in my airmiles account plus the value of the charges in my aeroplan account. Double points! I was only expecting to get the aeroplan points.

Hey for the Chase (Canada) Marriott card, is that 50k offer really public? I called in and asked about it and simply mentioned "hey, I hear there has been a 50k offer in the past". the CSR confirmed that they are offering it now (i.e the 50k) but only people with elite status at Marriott can get that bonus. Everyone else gets 30k.
Can anyone confirm or refute? I've been waiting for the 50k offer and want a no-FX fee card. |

BTW, last week's mileage run for *G who A3 worked like a charm! Instant *G, one flight. Except the day my status posted, A3 changed their rules. It's only good for one year now.
In Portland now, flying to BLI, driving across the border to Abbotsford. Cheaper flying to BLI than into Canada. |
So I applied for the card, wasn't sure if I was approved as they asked me the security questions and I botched one (all four prevoius addresses were wrong, weird) and tried to go back and got some error message.
Since then I've received a free night voucher by email from Marriott and have silver status. No points in the account yet, though. |

FYI, all of the security questions in my recent online application for this card were red-herrings. EVERY SINGLE ONE! Besides, I've read recently that you only have to answer 2 or 3 of them correctly. :p |

I am looking for advice from the group here about RBC Avion VISA Infinite.
I got the card last year as I got a letter offering FYF and 15K Sign-Up bonus. My main purpose to get this card is to transfer from Aeroplan to AA at 1:~0.82 ratio (during the RBC to AA 20% Transfer bonus) to redeem CX. One year is up and I got charge for the $120 annual fee, hence called in to inquiry about cancel and they offer me 10K points to stay with RBC. Using my typical $0.01 per Aeroplan miles value, this 10K RBC points worth ~$146 or ~14600 in Aeroplan Miles (using the above ratio) Hence, in theory, I am getting my value back for paying $120 and get something that I value $146. But before I go ahead and accepting the offer, want to hear what others think about my line of thought. Am I thinking straight or I am out of my mind (which doesn't surprise me if that is the case :)) Thanks in advance. ----- Mod, if you think this should be located at another Forum, please move this post over. Thank You. |
Personally , i probably would not keep the card for 10K points. I would feel that most of the value there is negated by having to pay the $120 AF, and $120 for 10K = 1.2 cents per point, which is a bit too high unless you had no other options to work with & really need the miles.
There are other card options out there that are around 0.5 cents per, like Platinum AMEX $300 net for 60K, AeroplanPlus Gold $120 for 26K, CIBC Aerogold $120 for 20K, or TD Aeroplan $120 for 25K. The first 2 are via referral but those are easy enough to get around here. I'm also not a huge fan of paying $120 now, to save $150 a year later. Technically speaking, from a time value of money perspective, it probably still is a net positive, but its small enough that once you factor in risk of points depreciation, its not worth it to me. That's why I'd pass on it unless all other options were exhausted, AND i really needed the points soon. |
I completely disagree with the above poster. I'd accept it. $120 for 10k in programs outside of Aeroplan with no credit check isn't bad.
Not to mention you must have the card to assist in converting Aeroplan to AA at a decent ratio, so there's ancillary benefits to it too. |
On the RBC Rewards topic, I was thinking of getting the Avion that alc is talking about, mainly because it's FYF and one can convert to FFPs. Any thoughts as to which FFP would be best to convert to, though?
I live in YWG which has no oneworld presence. Does that mean WS by default is the way to go with conversions, or should I go with Avios and just burn AE points to get to a BA gateway when I eventually want to redeem for overseas? The only other means I have to earn Avios would be via Amex MR conversions (which I normally convert to AE), so I wouldn't be likely to amass a huge amount of them. |

It would let you use Avios and potentially come out a bit ahead ie: Instead of 25K Aeroplan for YWG-JFK/LGA, you could do 15K Aeroplan for YWG-YYZ, and 7.5K Avios for YYZ-JFK/LGA |
