"Where do you see the FYF on this link? It says $120. "
Read under the section with the header "A good choice if you want" First bullet. |
The American Amex is getting all sorts of bonus transfers this week (SPG, Hilton, Virgin Atlantic). Not only does the Canadian component pale to all the airline partners the US version has - with 1:1 ratios no less - but we still haven't got the Avios bonus this year and Aeroplan has cut out MR points during their transfer bonus for some time now. When is Amex Canada going to start offering more value than just sign-up bonuses?
|
They added the referral program (which has given me many more points than the old transfer bonuses, and the Canadian dollar has dropped from parity to 13% below (without changing the transfer rates, effectively giving us a better than 1 USD per mile ratio).
I don't see transfer promos coming back |
We had the TD Aeroplan Infinite card, and cancelled. I heard that if you get it again, you will not get the welcome bonus. Correct?
|
Terms say if you were a cardholder within last 6 months you're ineligible.
Aeroplan just sent an email to test drive a Volvo for 250 miles (last year was 2,500). Um, no thanks. |

Just had a free Keg Baseball Steak, with some escargot to start. I know, I know: We play this game for long haul, first class flights--but I sure enjoyed that meal! Thank you, Amex Air Miles Plat...
|
How come cibc and TD aeroplan are not on this thread?
|
First off, I want to specify that I do not work for RBC or Avios... I'm spending too much time masterminding the biggest mileage heist off all time! ;)
So far no results... So quoting tommy, a lil bird told me (yeah, I got kids) that RBC will have a 50% bonus for BA soon! So not only can you get 1.5x for each Avion, but it's a great time for you disgruntled AP guys to apply the hacking trick and convert AP to BA! (AP 50K = BA 52.5K when the bonus applies) https://www.creditwalk.ca/aeroplan-h...n-cardholders/ FYI, this bonus applies only to infinite Avion cardholders. And correct tommy, there was a 50% bonus back in May 1st. So suit up guys, it's bonus roundup time! You can all thank me later... :-D Phil

From November 1 to December 31, 2014 [...] you'll receive 1.5 Avios for every RBC Rewards point you convert. |
might work if you have a select service account and they might waive the fee for first year?
or if you have infinite card and see if they can transfer to this account? |

just throwing this out there for anyone who still has the TD Aeroplan VISA but was thinking of getting rid of it soon.
i cancelled my TD Aeroplan VISA a month ago after signing up for it in January, and it turns out they are giving me a pro-rated credit back for the annual fee, which i thought was interesting, since the offer back then was first year free (credit back after 2 months, which i did receive). i had no idea they would do this and only noticed because i called in to check my balance, and there was a credit of $32 left on the gold card i converted the Aeroplan card to |
Anybody know how often you can churn the TD card?

So as it currently stands... 6 months (assuming it's worth churning after this offer expires). |
GCR website has been updated to reflect the status of MBNA cards :-)
http://www.greatcanadianrebates.ca/display/MBNA/ Will be back in November! |
What to do with my AIRmiles?
*Mods I'm not sure if this is where to post...
I have an AIRmiles (AIRmiles canada I guess???) card since 1996. I've accumulated points everytime I shop at IGA supertmarket, cleaners and Shell station. 130k$ later, I have 6500 points. What should I do with those miles? It's not worth trading them in for airfares because the value of points is tiny compared to all the other mileage programs. And you have to pay the taxes on top of that. So is there some type of trade to get value out of them? Do I trade them in for gifts (again another burn!)? Gift cards? Movie passes? I would honestly prefer airmiles, but I honestly think thats not gonna happen unless there's something out there that makes sense... Help? Phil |

Is there any easy way someone living in the US can spend $1000 in Canada if I wanted those transactions to actually be in Canada?
|
These? https://www.airmiles.ca/arrow/Home
I poked around, and they can be redeemed for flights. I saw round trip in "low season" YYZ-LHR for 5500 points. YYZ-EZE for 6000 points. I don't know if that's good or bad relative to other redemption options. But if those are the points you're talking about, play around on the site and see what you can find. Also, to note, redeeming them for flights might get mileage-earning flights. |
The best deals are for flights to the territories, or for shorthaul flights to expensive domestic destinations.
|
Aeroplan bonus conversion back. No big surprise that Amex points can't be used again:

Depends on which province you live in as well.

Does it matter where you collect your Air Miles?
I fly sometimes with partners of the Star Alliance, but not 1 partner in particular.
Does it matter where I create an Air Miles account and retroactively collect my Air Miles? |

Does it matter where I create an Air Miles account and retroactively collect my Air Miles? Yes it matters a lot, as different airlines even within * alliance have different rules for earning miles and status, how long status is valid, how the miles can be used for awards on that airline's flights or on other *alliance partner flights. Which *alliance airline are you likely to travel the most on? How many miles do you think you will accumulate during the course of a year? May be if you give us some pointers, we will be able to help you decide |

Also note that not all programs will allow retro-claims and may have limitations on how far back you can claim. Hopefully someone can help me out with a CC dilemma. Just trying to see which will give me the most bang for my buck.
I have an AMEX Plat and since those points can be transferred to either Aeroplan or Skymiles at 1:1, that covers SkyTeam and *A. I'm looking to cover ground with oneworld and can't decide whether to go for the RBC BA Visa or the RBC CX Visa: http://www.rbcroyalbank.com/credit-c...edit-card.html http://www.rbcroyalbank.com/credit-c...edit-card.html I can spend $30k annually but that means giving up the AMEX Platinum. I'm only keeping the Plat because of the lounge access and the $200 annual travel perk; both have been great. Apparently the Avion Infinite Privilege Visa has an income requirement of $200k? LOL. |
