Topguest must be getting desperate if they are locking out large amounts of accounts and then they limit criticism by shutting down their comments section on facebook. Switchfly raised 15 million dollars in March after acquiring Topguest, so the only assumption is they are burning their cash reserves at an alarmingly rate thus they are trying to stem the haemorrhaging of cash by banning users for any reason. Switchfly and Topguest must be leaving a bitter taste in users mouths since they started locking out users and this could have a flow on effect to their "partners".

I can still log in to TopG. But based on all your warnings I won't check in, even though I can see the Staybridge Suites across the road.

I'm disappointed that they've lost/cut/whatever three hotel programs. It doesn't bode well for them.

Basically, Topguest made a customer out of someone who wouldn't have thought twice about Priority Club.
Same for me here. And I spent 2 years staring at a Crowne Plaza right outside my kitchen window but it never occurred to me to look into Priority Club until I heard about Topguest on here. I now also look at Priority Club options for my travels.

That said, I can still login to my Topguest account but I haven't checked into anything via Foursquare since Sept. 8th when the doom and gloom came out on this thread. I check in about 3 - 5 times a week, usually a Double Tree and a Crowne Plaza at different times of the day. I didn't realize Holiday Inn was part of this game so I'll throw that into the mix more often assuming this gig continues. I'll try tonight when I get home.

This seems like a lot of consternation over nothing.

It’s 50 point a day, easily generated and $0 cost. If it continues, it’s a small amount of free points, and if it goes away, it’s not the end of the world.

+1. The points will come in or they won't, but it's not a big enough payoff to spend much time fussing over.

I agree, but it is a nice little automatic way to get points. I'm riding the train until they tell me to get off.

+1 here too. Riding the train until it stops. Free points - no need to fuss over them.

Also got kicked out. I was probably the only TG user in Hungary , used Foursquare for check-ins (not auto4sq) to PC properties, had a Holiday Inn on my commuting route. Also checked-in to an Intercontinental on weekends.

Oh, and I also checked-in to a BW property regularly, back in the days.

Total: ~10k PC points, ~5-6k BWR points. The farewell is not easy but thanks TG!

The problem is that if you have to spend a minute of your time to get 50 points you value at 25 cents, you are effectively earning $15/hour worth of points. That's worth it to some, but not to everyone. When I had a script that took me a minute to run and was earning $4 worth of points spread over a variety of programs per day, I made a point to capitalize. Now that the potential is extremely limited, I've given up.

If TG wants any chance to survive, they need to change the business model to reward spending or similar activity, not just check-ins that don't require the participant to be anywhere near the property.

Yup, at a job you where you "work" 1 hour every 2 months

I get that it's nice points - I got 100/day myself (or more when TG flakes out) but it seems like an awful lot of anxiety over something fairly minor in the whole scheme of points earning

Frankly, I don't care much how long they could survive and I hope they will never change the check-in process. I pass by a hotel every day and I love spending a few seconds to check-in while I walk at the same time. In my case, if I don't check-in, I will not do anything else so I don't see this as losing my valuable time. I love the free points, however just like the other poster said:

" If it continues, it’s a small amount of free points, and if it goes away, it’s not the end of the world."

also all tg checkins were at least 2 hours apart
