also all tg checkins were at least 2 hours apart

We had three accounts. We checked in via computer on foursquare. We made mulitiple check ins daily to non TopGuest sites. Only 1 to either Holiday Inn or Doubletree. Never both. We checked in only on weekdays at different times (and not even every day). Hubby still alive and well. Balima JR and I are dead in the water.

Still going strong for me. One check in per day to Doubletree and Holiday Inn, everyday of the week. Hours apart from each other. However I am checking in at other non Topguest places in between. Riding this until its over.

Maybe I'm too late coming to the party. Tried signing up for TG. TG said my email was in use. Waiting for hours for a password reset link to be emailed to me.

It almost seems like they just randomly closed down some accounts. At least based on what people have reported in this thread, there doesn't seem to be anything obvious that made you safe or not.

same for me re: Holiday inn

I think I am shut down with all accounts. I am no longer able to log in to the Topguest site. :td:

brettalb Sep 13, 2012 6:56 am

I am shutdown also. It actually happened while I was away without internet access for 17 days, so I'm not sure what their criteria is.

Dad to GO Sep 13, 2012 11:00 am

How do you know if you are shut down or not? I can't seem to log in and the password reset email takes me to a screen that errors out.

Can we just create a new account if it is indeed shut down?

Damidgede Sep 13, 2012 11:08 am

Like clockwork I have been getting my HH points daily. I have had a couple of times where they wouldnt post for a few days and then they would all post at once. Not sure what my balance is from TG overall, but they have provided a nice chunk. Hope it continues, but no worries if it doesn't.

I, too, am getting my points like clockwork. One Hilton and one Holiday Inn every day. Both groups of points post daily. I've only been doing this a little over a week, so they may catch up to me.

Only if it's tied to a fresh hotel program account. You can't create a new Topguest account and link it to a hotel account that you used with a different Topguest account.

You can if you first ask Topguest to delete your account. Presumably they wouldn't do that if you'd already been shut down though.

Just checked this thread for first time in a while, then checked TG account. Sure enough, shut down. Got 9k PC and 4.3k HH before getting the heave-ho. Oh well, easy come easy go!

Majikow Sep 14, 2012 8:32 am

Hilton, Priority and VA points posting still, and I prefer to drive auto, not manual.

Are people doing all their checkins from the same TG acct? My guess is that's why you're getting shutdown.

I only did one points accumulating check in per day. And I only checked in 4-5 days a week.

AAL Sep 14, 2012 9:07 am

I only checked in twice!

It used to be that when TG shuts you down, you will see a message when you log in that says your account has been suspended. Then you will receive an email from TG saying you violated their terms and your account is closed. Recently, that process seems to changed. When you are shut down, you can no longer log in to TG but the TG website doesn't give you any message. They no longer send you an email. Furthermore, if you keep checking in after they close your account, you still receive messages saying you have earned the check in points but the points do not post.

UNIVBFan Sep 14, 2012 9:23 am

It appears I have also been booted from Top Guest. Checked-in using 4SQ, usually at the same hotel, but I also had big gaps between check-ins. Tried to log into my account the other day to see why points hadn't posted this week and when it didn't work I came here. It would be nice if their IT department could at least have some kind of message pop up saying your account has been closed, rather than just having you enter your password, hit enter, then have it flash back to the log-in screen. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Mine are all from the same TG account, all manual, no issues yet.

20,000 points later - mine's gone tits up. Time to sign up Mrs User Name... :D

mikelat Sep 14, 2012 9:12 pm

only got to 1k poitns in Hilton with daily checkins now toast on topguest. oh well.

sent Sep 15, 2012 11:29 am

Got a Holiday Inn check Inn this morning. Just need 2 more to hit that 5K in Priority Club to be able to utilize their awards. Most of my checkins have been at the same Crowne Plaza and Double Tree near my apartment in NYC, but I check in at other ones around the tri-state if I know I'm going to be driving by one. Maybe variety is the key? (I was stopped at a traffic light last week in Wilmington and saw a Double Tree, so I pulled over and checked in :D)

+1, exact same thing for both wife and I. Started at the same time for both of us.

strummerjones Sep 15, 2012 9:11 pm

I last received VA pts on 8/24. I have gotten emails for two subsequent check-ins, but those pts have posted to my account yet. Hmmm...

Upon further inspection, points haven't actually posted to the ms. or my account since 8/28. However the emails are still coming and when I log into our TG accounts it shows that we are still receiving points. They just haven't transferred to our actual VA accounts though. Not sure what's going on.

Same here, I'm still receiving the email "you have earned 25 points" but nothing has posted to my VA account since 8/28 :confused:

I think at least some of the other programs (like United) ended the same way -- points were no longer posting, but emails were still going out for a while. My guess is that they turn off points posting first, and get around to stopping the emails and taking the program off their site afterwards, and that this is just another partner gone.

The Corrupt Banker Sep 17, 2012 11:47 pm

I e-mailled Topguest about VA and here's whay they had to say.

Hello Banker

Thanks for contacting us. We are currently working with Virgin America to resolve this issue and ensure points for prior check-ins not yet credited are deposited.

Unfortunately, we don't have an ETA of when this will be resolved. We are hopeful points will be deposited this week.

If you don't see points deposited into your Virgin America Elevate account by the end of this week please let us know.
Thanks and happy travels,

Topguest
Let's see at the end of the week.

Ah, so that's what happened. I realized my points haven't posted in weeks and I couldn't log into TG. Bummer.

Between Hilton, Priority Club, Choice, Best Western, Wyndham and CO/UA, I got more points/miles than most credit card signups give these days. I will always remember you for paying for my layover night stay at a Choice Hotel in Tokyo, in exchange for me pressing some buttons on my phone for 10 seconds a day, 6 days a week. :) Thanks for the memories, Topguest. :D

bobinla Sep 19, 2012 10:47 pm

I'm actually really surprised the vendors that use TopGuest aren't angry they're summarily suspending accounts. If everyone were smart, they'd complain to the programs themselves (I will now) as it doesn't represent them well by simply chucking loyalty customers aside. I'm a gold PC member before all the TopGuest points and simply used it as additional earn. But it doesn't make me think too highly of my Holiday Inn stay when I checked in expecting points from TopGuest (minimal points at that) and they don't even inform me my account is suspended. The only way I found out is I noticed points not posting and came to Flyertalk!

They're cancelling accounts of people who accumulate points with little revenue contributions to show for it. Loyalty programs are about increasing profitable activity - checking into places without boosting your spending isn't profitable activity.

So is it safe to assume that UA is not coming back?

Which is why no loyalty programs should use Topguest. I'd wager that about 95% of the check-ins through Topguest are not tied to any actual spend at the location.

It's not like they couldn't tie it in if they wanted to. See the brief SPG promo a few months back.

waiata Sep 21, 2012 12:08 am

Did anyone even win the VA Elite status Topguest said they were giving away during their promotion?

You'd think there would be a likelihood of someone from these parts winning.

CinSun Sep 21, 2012 12:18 am

ugh, looks like i got hit by the ban hammer as well. It was good while it lasted, roughly 17k pts each for priority club and hilton.
