Thanks. Not overly concerned about losing them

Same here, and it seems to be random. I get bunches of point like that about every 10 days or so and it's not at all related to 'missing' points (in my case - I'm not missing any). It just appears.

GetawaysRus Aug 31, 2012 1:16 pm

I'm having the same problem with points not posting. Hilton is still working, but Priority Club quit a few weeks ago.

Would appreciate if someone would clue me in about what they did - where did you email and what did you say to get them to hopefully fix things.

I would suggest not to do anything. As I posted earlier, both PC and Hilton stopped working for me a few days ago, then today PC fixed itself with some bonus points that I did not earn. Hilton is still broken though.

summerdayshopping Aug 31, 2012 1:37 pm

I suggest not to contact topguest but just wait and see if it will be fixed by itself. Just for the record, both of my PC and Hilton accounts were credited with proper points now.

skibum7732 Aug 31, 2012 1:58 pm

Ive had points post for both PC and HH recently.

TallestHotelInJapan Aug 31, 2012 2:13 pm

Warning - Do NOT add your Priority Club number if you have some 1,000 points !!!

I'm not sure if I can sign up again with a new email address or if I can get them to at least post the points I've earned.

They are little devils!

I collected over 5,000 Priority Club points but did not add the PC account number. When I realized that, I went ahead and added my PC number. This was a big mistake.

My account was the day after frozen. Celeste Williams from Topguest sent me an email: "Hi Tallest Hotel In Japan, As previously mentioned, we've noticed that you seem to be using Topguest in ways that violate our Terms of Service. We are hereby closing your account and will not be forwarding instances of you receiving points to our partners. Regards, Topguest."

Needless to say that I never got an answer when I asked for an explication. Even the mail from Celeste Williams was an offense to me. "As previously mentioned...". Huuuuh? I did never get an email from Topguest. So, what was "previously mentioned"?

I wanted to fill a complaint with the Better Business Bureau but I failed to find Topguest listed with the BBB.

balima Aug 31, 2012 2:33 pm

My thought is that those getting letters might not be checking in anywhere else but hotels for points. I would suggest that you check in other places besides hotels. Do a quick check in when you get to work. You would be surprised all the places that you can check in. Bus stops, train stops, Major office buildings, grocery stores, outdoor venues etc etc. Use Topguest in the way that it was meant and you should not have problems. I even check in on days that I don't check into a hotel. This seems to make the Cardinals happy.

handerson03 Aug 31, 2012 6:50 pm

Months ago I was regularly checking into a HI and a DT that were next to each other. I got an email from topguest stating they believed I was engaged in suspicious activity and that they would shut down my account if I continued the practice.

Since that time they don't award me Hilton points for DT checkins, but I get PC points for checkins at their properties. Weird.

docr775 Aug 31, 2012 7:51 pm

My Priority Club points still post just fine:

Aug 30, 2012 Other TOPGUEST BONUS POINTS | 50 pts.
Aug 30, 2012 Other TOPGUEST BONUS POINTS | 50 pts.
Aug 30, 2012 Other TOPGUEST BONUS POINTS | 50 pts.
Aug 30, 2012 Other TOPGUEST BONUS POINTS | 50 pts.
Aug 30, 2012 Other TOPGUEST BONUS POINTS | 50 pts.
Aug 30, 2012 Other TOPGUEST BONUS POINTS | 50 pts.
Aug 27, 2012 Earn Qualifying Stay 8,055 pts

I drive by an HIX almost on a daily basis. I have almost 8K points from that.

centrifuge41 Aug 31, 2012 7:54 pm

Same, sometimes my IHG and HHonors "clumps" up and posts, a few per day, to make up for the past. No need to hawk over it too much - it's been working fine :)

daninstl Aug 31, 2012 8:06 pm

If you get the email from Celeste Williams you are done and they suspended your account and you will not be able to reenroll the PC or HH numbers with them again. I'm afraid they are treading into class action territory with this.

I hope that there will be a class action. What they do is not right.

I got my account suspended without warning. They should at least send me an email first telling me and explain their thoughts.

Having not received any PC points for a month, and not panicking about it (as history shows there's no reason to), they all posted today.

Have you actually been complying with the terms - physically going to each location and checking in from there? Every time?

dontippet Sep 2, 2012 10:46 pm

I checked in for the first time with foursquare a couple of hours ago, and couldn't believe it when I had 100 points added to my actual priority club points total on priorityclub.com.

Congrats. Now remember to checkin occassionally at other places in order to keep the train a-going. I also find that having friends makes them happy as well. Shouting out to no one kinda defeats the purpose.

akp Sep 3, 2012 10:52 am

I've been suspended

I already appealed but lost.

I used four square often for non hotel / airline checkins, but that did not protect me. I checked in at a cluster of hotels not far from my home very often.

Points posted occasionally but not always.

Party's over for me.

In this situation the moment you put in your PC number TopGuest saw all your back check-ins at once, and this threw up the flag. I had a friend do something similar--forget his PC number and when he put it in all the back check-ins came through all at once. This looks like multiple checkins in a short period of time. This is a glitch, which you might be able to explain to them.

The #1 way to get shut down is multiple check-ins in a short amount of time. Space them out, giving yourself 2 hours or so between them.

UA has been dead for quite a while. I believe it was the end of May or the beginning of June.

Actually just looked it up. United stopped giving TopGuest miles as of June 15th.

Yes, probably. I should have denied the points and then add the number. Too bad. They did not answer my emails. I did explain the situation but no answer from Topguest.

There are a few hotels within a mile or so of my home. I often checked into them all three as I passed by, so within a few minutes.

Not a very smart move on your part and an obvious violation of their rules.

I started the check-in at the tail end of UA participation. It has been working out so far. Currently doing weekday check-ins to Holiday Inn and DoubleTree, ~30min apart. it has been posting clockwise. :)

Checking in while "passing by" is documented in this thread as an account-killer. Top Guest says something about "velocity," which I suppose has to do with your smartphone's GPS.

Rapid-fire checking in also is documented as a no-no.

Questions to those who have had their accounts closed:

Do you have "friends" on FourSquare, or whatever you use to checkin? They're serious about that too.

And what are you using to checkin if not 4Square?

jobu2 Sep 4, 2012 2:25 pm

I think its the geocoding- more than anything check out this site auto4sq.com and look at what they show as the activity where people are checking in-

A quick look at the front page of auto4sq.com...

Lydia R. - That's 70 straight days at DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Naples - you set a new record! +3 just now.

Artemisia C. - That's 61 days in a row at DoubleTree by Hilton Grand Hotel Biscayne Bay - it's a record streak! +3 just now

Akari H. - That's 57 days in a row at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Las Vegas Airport - it's a record streak! +3just now (live feed)

Wow.

So if you sign up with auto4sq be careful, mix it up a bit.

I have also been googling Topguest- trying to understand- and this is what I found- (you may know already.) Up until now TG's business model was to make money when you sign up for a loyalty program through Topguest. In December, Topguest was bought by Switchfly, (formerly ezrez software) switchfly.com. Topguest's founder left in June to work for the VC company that gave TG their startup capital. According to this article, Switchfly bought TG to integrate with its other products and offer its clients functionality around social media ( thats my take) http://techcrunch.com/2011/12/13/erez-topguest/

here is some background on switchfly from their website:

Switchfly is a software-as-a-service provider of travel, loyalty and payment solutions

the comprehensive Switchfly product suite includes:
• Travel commerce platforms for airlines, hotels and OTAs
• Loyalty point redemption platforms for travel and financial services loyalty programs
• Payments engine for digital wallets, payment services and loyalty programs
• Social media solutions for travel providers, loyalty programs and merchants
• Mobile platforms to enhance shopping, loyalty redemption and social media experiences

Switchfly, which services clients on six continents, processes more than $750 million in transactions annually and loyalty program members have redeemed more than 100 billion reward points through its platform.
