My Hilton accounts just got euthanized. All others still going. Got the warning email on all of them, so not sure why that is.

jjkpartsman Oct 7, 2012 7:51 pm

The auto things are dead for me, in person is still working for pc. No DT where I live, so I will take as many pc points as possible. Back to physically being on property. No warnings yet as I have taken over 13k pc points this year alone and 15k hh. Only got one warning when I was checking in too far from the property, but that has been it.

What was "too far"? The Holiday Inn is 650 feet from my living room.

I wonder if the clamp down is related to SPG coming onboard?

SPG is partnering with Foursquare directly, not Topguest.

And they did it before with 4sq in 2011.

dace Oct 8, 2012 5:37 am

got shut down as well... about 2.5K in PC and 1.5k in HH. no questions asked !

Celeste, i have just removed you from my Christmas list ;) !!

Cheers,
Dace

balima Oct 8, 2012 8:57 am

Mstr. Balima and I got shut down during the first round. No letters, no warning. Mr. Balima was still going strong up until last week. He is now dead in the water as well. No warnings ever received. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. Across all three of us we got over 12K points and miles.

BrycePGH Oct 8, 2012 9:02 am

This is a bit different as it will require an actual stay in the hotel, not just grabbing a coffee in the lobby :/

"To tell you the SPG Better by the Night promotion just got better. Now you can earn 250 bonus Starpoints when you check in on foursquare during eligible stays at all 1,100 hotels and resorts through December 20, 2012. Be sure your SPG and foursquare accounts are linked at spg.com/socialcheckins and that you are registered for the promotion at spg.com/betterbythenight to earn your bonus Starpoints. It's that easy."

Just had 725 points post for Virgin America all at once today.

I use four square when travelling, as it is easier I often check in on my lap top using foursquare mobile. A little while ago the points stoped posting to IHG. Today I checked in from my andriod device, and he points have appeared.

So, it looks like they are stoppingpoints for check ins unless it is from a mobile device.

Fanfoot Oct 9, 2012 5:22 pm

Nobody ever mentions mlife. I was doing checkins via the web and seeing points post for both HH, PC and mlife. The mlife was for my wife, location Vegas. Then the mlife stopped posting, and then they clawed the points back, returning the balance to zero as if the mlife checkins had never happened. My checkins via iPhone continue to work. Not sure about the web as I have stopped doing that.

MLife made some 'improvements' to its program effective Oct. 1, and in the process reset all points balances to zero.

Yes, this really sucked for some of us. I Emailed in a protest, but haven't heard anything yet.

Embassy. Oct 10, 2012 6:32 pm

I have been suspended, but the joke is on topguest because I earned 50k points on HH and PC, plus 20k on Wyndham.

jjkpartsman Oct 11, 2012 6:32 pm

Unless everyone else is having issues with PC points posting the last few days, it looks my ride has come to an end. Points show on topguest but they are now not posting in my account with pc. No email to let me know I have been suspended yet.

Sorry to report that my PC points are still posting, so chances are you've been suspended.

Mine are still posting as well, but I am being careful after the Celeste email.

You might be on to something there. Foursquare's mobile apps report the user's GPS coordinates as part of the checkin. Web-based checkins (like the mobile website and Auto4sq) don't have that info. Topguest may have decided they need coordinates to "prove" a checkin is legit.

The Corrupt Banker Oct 12, 2012 4:32 am

A little birdie tells me that check-ins from a certain Firefox/Chrome extension still work.

Just saying.

Foursquare used to report back coordinates for the locations you checked into. You could harvest all the locations and then supply them at later check-ins. I did that and I haven't gotten points for several weeks now.

Topguest - additional points for checkins

It looks like my ride is over. Now I only get an error message while trying to log in.

duranza Oct 13, 2012 8:43 am

how does this work? I just signed up and entered my PC and HH member number for the 50 points.. would I do this everyday?

Chrome has several, still hasn't found one.
Any tip?

You'll only receive the points for your initial sign up once. From now on, whenever you are at an IHG property or a Doubletree, check-in on your mobile device -- with a Foursquare account linked to your TG account -- and you will receive another 50 points per check-in per day.

FYI, apparently TG is monitoring accounts to confirm that people are actually at the physical location when they check-in.

SkyTeam777 Oct 15, 2012 2:24 pm

Problem with that is that often my mobile device is "off" in terms of coordinates. I know that because when using Maps, it is off as well.

Joe1690 Oct 15, 2012 8:16 pm

Well, I haven't seen points post for the last few check-ins and so I tried to log into topguest only to find out my account is suspended. This is interesting seeing as every time I have checked in I have been at the physical hotel. I guess they don't like the fact that I have checked into the same hotel 20 or more times over the last few months. It makes there program worthless if they are banning legitimate users and they don't even have the nerve to communicate with the account holder to let them know. Even more interesting is that while my account may be suspended they still have access to my foursquare check-in information and do not provide a means to remove it which does not make me happy.

If you're not physically located at the property and still want the points, then you *want* your location data indeterminate/disabled, not inaccurate. Use common sense about how often a given account checks in to a given property, and into multiple places in short order. I still don't see how anyone finds it worth their time to do this manually, but if you're dealing with a bunch of accounts and some simple programming (macros, even)...

I walk by the hotels mon-fri, usually spend a few seconds to check in manually (walk at the same time), don't see any problems/time wasting here. :D

I'm referring to those who go out of their way in some fashion and spend, say 5 minutes to get 100 points worth 50 cents. $6/hour for your time that way.

You control who has access to your foursquare account via foursquare, so you can always remove it. Go to https://foursquare.com/settings/connections and you can remove the permissions for topguest to see your checkins.

bender29 Oct 20, 2012 12:21 pm

Been away a while, but I'm surprised to see TopGuest is still alive.

I'm also surprised to still see so many checkins on auto4sq - e.g. " That's 113 straight days at Wingate Wyndham - you set a new record!". But I'm guessing those folks just abandoned their accounts and didn't bother to turn off their checkins.

After all the banning, is anyone still using auto4sq for this? If topguest hasn't blacklisted auto4sq by now, they're hopeless.

Hades2k Oct 20, 2012 3:42 pm

Got the eMail about a month ago, stopped checking in to a HIE right around the corner - last posting activity was on Sep. 28. Account not suspendet, can still log in but nothing posts - oh well nice while it lasted...

That's not a good value but for homeless, jobless or students still something. At least :D

Anyone know if suspension permanent? has anyone ever been unsuspended? I mean the account is suspended, not closed or cancelled, so is it forever, or after a while is it lifted?

No one has ever reported being unsuspended. I check occasionally just in case, but it has been months now.
