New Policy

https://www.finnair.com/fi-en/flight...-2021--2180696

If your flight on/after 1 July is cancelled

When your flight is on the list of entirely cancelled routes or you have received a message of a flight cancellation, these are your options:
  • You can change your travel dates without a change fee maximum 360 days onwards from the day you are making the change. You can do this via Manage booking, or if you can’t make the change yourself online, our customer service will assist you. You can change your travel dates if:
    • You made your booking via Finnair channels
    • You have a Finnair operated and marketed flight
    • There are available seats in the same cabin class on the new flight you have chosen
    • You make the change before the departure of your original flight. You need to select new dates for your travel when making the change.
    • Please note that if you want to make further changes after the first change the Book with confidence policy applies.
  • We do our best to re-route you to your destination with other Finnair flights. Please note that the availability of alternative flights is currently limited. We’ll send you your new flight information via SMS and/or email, and you can check it and other possible flight options also via Manage booking.
  • You can cancel your booking via Manage booking and then apply for a refund for the unused part of your flight ticket by filling in this online form. If you are unable to cancel your booking via Manage booking, our customer service can assist you. If we have cancelled all the flights in your booking, you can apply for a refund without cancelling the booking.
    • When any of the flights in your booking (for example only the return flight) has been cancelled, you can apply for a refund for all the unused flights on the same ticket.
    • You can also choose a Finnair gift card as a refund option when you have paid your ticket fully with money (through online banking or credit card).
  • If you purchased a travel extra and change your travel date, we will move the travel extra to your new flight if possible, otherwise, you can apply for a refund online (undelivered service). Also, if your flight is cancelled, you can apply for a refund for any travel extras you had purchased and did not receive.

My experiences:
This promotion fare (as they said so in chat)
- able to move from STR-CAN to MUC-HKG in late March which I think they will cancel some of them again!

Booked OSL-BKK in J (normal cheapest fare from OSL)
- unable to reroute to OSL-HEL-HKG-(codeshare with CX)-BKK, I did try many times with Chat and did call the local office in BKK and the agent there agreed with the rerouting but hours late got reject from the HQ Office!
- only move flight or refund are offered, request for the refund and processed within 2 days!!!

It seems that they are very strict now about the rerouting. I still have many flights with AY left but in Y

Thanks, This confirms my experience today. They allowed any start point in Italy (was originally BLQ) but no other start points and I was rebooked to Sept 2021.

Happy with that

Guys... ALWAYS keep a copy of the Finnair chat log. If the "Save transcript" doesn't work (it didn't for me), copy the contents of the chat manually and save them somewhere else.
Having some issues with yet another rebooking (apparently some OTA had confirmed a schedule change on my behalf without ever contacting me) and basically the only thing that's currently giving me at least some hope that I'll be able to rebook again is that I had kept records of all chat conversations.

I contacted AY web chat lately to rebook cancelled flights (once again).. Had a confused and reluctant agent telling me the booking had no cancelled flights, I and/or my OTA have already confirmed.everything and theres nothing AY can/will do about it. I had been dealing with AY only since March. The agent refused to do anything even if the first flight was in a few hours time, told me to contact OTA and just closed the chat(!)I I called AY the next morning, the agent had a quick look into booking history and rebooking was done in a few minutes. The new flights (and eticket) had apparently been confirmed by their system according to the automatic mail(s) AY had sent about the schedule change(s)..

Yes, it’s usually a case of HUCA. I had it in writing that I “could contact AY for a rebooking at a later time, closer to departure”.
Yet the agent said it was debatable of “less than 72 hours before departure was acceptable” and lots of such bull. In the end (after quoting me a fare difference), he offered to remove the flights from my ticket (so it wouldn’t be a no-show), check with HQ and get back to me. But this was ONLY because I had everything in writing. In any case it wouldn’t be possible to rebook beyond September 2021.
The next day, I simply tried the chat again and the agent rebooked me for free for October 2021 (unfortunately changing my D ticket back to I class). In the evening, I also got an email from the first agent where he said HQ had given him a green light for a rebooking.
Always keep records...

Flight ticket STR-CAN has now been cancelled by Finn AIR

Our flight ticket STR-CAN has now been cancelled after the second cancellation by Finn Air.

We were no longer allowed to rebook.

The first date at the beginning of April 2020 we could rebook to 17.11.2020 (today). But at the beginning of October this flight was cancelled by Finn Air as well. In mid-October we called Finn Air to see if we could rebook this flight for next year October / November 2021. Since the November 2021 flights were not yet available, we were advised to rebook at a later date.

In between I also had contact with Finn Air, because I wanted to know if I could take another destination airport. But this was clearly denied. I was told several times that only rebooking to a new date is allowed. Best shortly before the actual trip. So that we can see whether a return flight in November 2021 will be feasible. Accordingly, I did not worry that the flight might not be valid at the beginning of November.

Last week, Friday, I was informed that the flight ticket was bought on October 27, 2019 and therefore one year has passed and the ticket has lost its validity.
They are taking a stubborn stance now and really don't want to rebook.

I assume that all tickets that are canceled in the future will be deleted by Finn. It is possible that Finn Air has agreed internally that rebooking will no longer be accepted.

I don't think it's okay that the flight ticket is no longer valid.
Especially since we phoned Finn Air in mid-October to change the booking. Nobody told us that we have to take care to keep the date.
Also on their homepage it is clearly stated that it is possible to change the booking, but they don't want to know anything about it anymore and don't respond to my request.

I also took the advice of a forum participant and called EXPEDIA directly with whom I booked. But that did not help either. EXPEDIA says that there is nothing they can do.

We were always satisfied with Finn AIR and had no reason not to trust Finn AIR - after all, they treated us well all the time.

I don't think it's okay that I'm going to be dumped like this, also because it happens one-sidedly and without warning and although there is a completely different text on the homepage, so I have some ambition not to throw in the towel just like that and would be happy if one or the other of you has a good idea about it.

Here is the last E-Mail from Finnair

"Thank you for your feedback.

The case has been already officially discussed with the Finnair headquarters and indeed your ticket is no longer involuntary changeable at the moment.

The only available option would be to contact your travel agency to request the refund.

We appreciate your understanding.

Kind regards,"

Try livechat, they should extend the validity no problem as they have done for many others HUACA

As long as you booked before APR30, you can change your flight online, for free, without any fare difference, for infinite amount of times, for any new flight before NOV30, as long as you keep your origin and destination the same. Or, of course, you can request for a refund.
My next 2 rt both involved HAJ, which AY pulled out completely, so it is not possible to do so online, and in that case a phone call is necessary. But honestly, this is leagues ahead of FI, who I had the displeasure to deal with last week, which offered no refund or credit or waive of fare difference.
Big kudos to AY, and I am proud to say I use them most often for my EU-related travels. Also it can potentially mean you can experiment around until you get D on both outbound and inbound for maximum mileage earning on AS.
It is now past 30NOV, HK is still closed, and now Finnair is not wanting to rebook me without wanting fare difference. RIP

the world has changed, and the aviation world is completely remade, since the previous post. I have to push my flights again as most of mine are getting cancelled. Hope AY can realize we are probably the last group that wants refunds from them ;P

When AY reissued/revalidated tickets, they were no longer marked as INVOL. Right now they see our tickets as voluntarily changed, so unless you have a flight cancellation or schedule change, then you cannot rebook at all without fare difference being charged. And if you had it reissued once, then you've already used up your "one free change". They seem to be making up rules at every turn.

Is there a fixed time limit before which you would need to rebook to reserve your rights?
