thanks for your advice, and if the flight was cancelled can I assume I can change to May 2021?

—from finnair website—
IF YOUR FLIGHT ON/AFTER 1 JULY IS CANCELLED

When your flight is on the list of cancelled routes or you have received a message of a flight cancellation, these are your options:
  • You can change your travel dates until 31 May 2021 without a change fee via Manage booking. If you can’t make the change yourself online, our customer service will assist you. You can change your travel dates if
    • You made your booking via Finnair channels.
    • You have a Finnair operated and marketed flight.
    • There are available seats on your chosen new flight in the same cabin class.
    • You make the change before the departure of your original flight. You need to select new dates for your travel when making the change.

I managed to speak to an operator a while ago by calling 02037880445 and hitting zero, not sure if this is still a thing.

Odd are that it should work. Hitting zero on the answering machine defaults them to send you to a operator.
If I remember correctly it was intended for elder people who didn't know what to press and just hit zero. Or I might be a bit off on the reasons why but the results is usually a connection to an operator

also fun fact, a lot of those bots that actively listen to your voice inputs like "award redemption" or "flight change", you can yell profanities and be automatically connected to a human operator. Not sure if it will work in German though!

Looks like a UK telephone number to me.

Internationally that would translate to +44 2037880445

If you don't have a plus key on your keypad, how you dial +44 from your country is country specific.

I still have a bunch of CAN and HKG flights booked, the earliest one scheduled to depart next week (obviously cancelled).
I’ve put off rebooking them yet another time for long enough. What are my options now? Is there any possibility to fly to HKG or CAN this year at all? Should I just move everything to next year?
My plan was to accrue lots of AS miles, but I guess if I move the bookings to next year, there’s a high risk they’ll have devalued the program?

They still allow to change destinations? I'm in the same boat.., flight to PVG in september. I have no intention to visit PVG itself (although I love PVG ) but fellow forum member Moondog told me I will need a PRC visa even for making a transit in PVG (which i'm not gonna get)..

I contacted AY today via chat, and it turns out that they 'tricked' us. My original flight to CAN ( I class) back in April was cancelled and I rebooked that free of charge to PVG (in D class).
(My flight to PVG is in September, and the prospects for transiting or getting a visa for China are not good..)

Now it turns out that these are indeed D class flights, but actually they are 'rebranded' I class flights...

This is what the rep on the chat said..

When I asked if I had a D class fare:

'No, you have I class paid fare. Your ticket was changed involuntarily (free of charge) to the lowest availability in Business class, but fare rules, mileage collection, etc. is still according to your original I-class fare'

When I asked why it shows at D class in my confirmation email and on the AY website:

'When we are doing exceptional changes, we could rebook to the lowest available fare in the same cabin. It was D in your case.'

When I asked that this meant that my flight was indeed a D class fare:

'No, this means that even though there was not availability in I-class for your requested new flights, we still agreed to rebook you without collecting the fare difference. Therefore the original I-class fare rules apply for your booking.

The same fare rules remain based on the original fare. Your involuntary rebooking will always use the lowest selling class in the cabin which sometimes might not be I. However that doesn’t change the fare rules. Your booking fare rules haven’t change, there is no tricking here.

I know it's not a real and intentional 'trick' (hence the ''), I do think they should have made this more clear during the rebooking process.

Anyway, I do think that AY has been very generous the way they handled all this; so I can't complain too much.

it will accrue at D class, other programs have no idea what original fare basis it is, so you are not being tricked, just "reaccommodated" ;P
of course no matter what you do, the fare rules when booking applies.
