Flight Changes
Many changes have been made due to Etihad schedule changes. In some cases, connecting flights are being swapped to nonstops. Some have been able to get this changed back by calling Etihad, others have not. You may have to repeat call / HUCA to get it switched back.

Update 12/28/14: Etihad will honor the fare per Forbes article.

First item on the list is what happened here.
EY upgraded you to a direct flight. (Any airline can do it and happens all the time as it frees up two flight-segments for the airline)
Normally, we dont complain and are happy about the good fortune.

In cases, where we have mistakenly assumed that it cant happen such as planning a short city tour at layover airport or counting on ending trip at layover without ever flying the last segment (I have done that numerous times), then that "upgrade" certainly ruins the plan. But routing changes do happen more frquently than most people realize and airlines are within their rights to do so.

In this case, people who were counting on layovers at CDG or those wanted AA miles felt being short-changed but airline has the right to minimize its cost while honoring ridiculously cheap fare within its T&C. (not having to pay European airport taxes alone is a good savings)

Those affected have several choices:
a) Take the direct flight
b) Dont fly at all
c) Since EY seems to be willing to refund money it is not required to do so, take them up on it and get money back after whatever trouble/irritation they make you go through it
d) Try HUCA to get back AA flights (EY being inconsistent may work out in your favor)

Posting here as data point is indeed a help to the community.

You need to go back and read what I have wrote in other posts and practice a little reading comprehension.

Routing changes happen due to weather, mechanical, or scheduling issues all the time; however, airlines don't routinely "upgrade" passengers to direct flights to save themselves money. US domestic airlines do sometimes proactively ask passengers with seemingly convoluted routings IF they want to take a direct flight on upcoming tickets; they don't force it upon them months in advance and they allow the passenger to fly as ticketed.

Put your EY cheerleader pom-poms down for a while and step away.

PS: I didn't buy one of these tickets. I wouldn't subject myself to that much flying and not get elite miles.

I'd say people have gone WAY beyond that with their "you're greedy!' and "you shouldn't fly if you need your $187 back!" remarks. Seriously, y'all looking for a retread of the UA mistake fare mudslinging?

It's a simple question, folks. If anyone has asked Etihad for a refund and actually received their money back, please post your experience. People who are trying to cancel their tickets would appreciate the information. All others who feel compelled to demonstrate their knowledge and integrity to all the "noobs" go find yourself another hobby because nobody cares.

It's a simple question, folks. If anyone has asked Etihad for a refund and actually received their money back, please post your experience. People who are trying to cancel their tickets would appreciate the information. Yes it is simple. I've returned items to Kohl's and it's taken 30 days for the credit to show up on my Visa so do you really know where the hang up is?
Seeing you're fairly new to FT you'll find out that a lot of older FT members have little patience for newbie's, because we've heard the same questions(answers) 40-100 times and that irritates some of them. You need to have a thick skin to stick around. There's always trolls on any internet site, that's just the way it is.

New to FT but have been lurking for a few months now. Booked mistake fare (JFK-CDG-AUH-MNL) on Xmas 2014. Completed travel with wife to Manila in February. Successfully Bid the minimum ($450) for upgrade to business class on the AUH-MNL leg. My bid was accepted on the MNL-AUH leg, but I had a credit card fraud alert derail my bid on the way home. Probably should of called ahead so my card wouldn't be declined.

I am trying to credit the miles to my AA account to no avail so far. Has anyone else completed travel and received credit on AA? Please let me know what steps you took to get the credit.

To add more data points, just completed JFK - AUH - JFK. Minimum bid of $1150 to business wasn't accepted in either direction. Cost at counter to upgrade was quoted at $1400.

Oddly, was upgraded to business with no status on AUH - KTM. On return, minimum upgrade bid of $140 was accepted and business on the A320 had 7 empty seats.

What seems to be the problem with crediting? As posted you should be eligible for RDM on AA. Have you submitted a missing miles request with AA?

I sent AA the request for miles two weeks ago. They sent me the following response:

We have received your mileage credit request for your travel on the following AAdvantage® airline participants and have forwarded your information to them.

Partner Airline Flight Number Date Origin Destination
EY 3064 02/10/2015 JFK CDG
EY 0032 02/11/2015 CDG AUH

The airline must now verify that this travel qualifies for AAdvantage miles. If eligible, you will be able to see this activity posted to your AAdvantage account in approximately 30 days.

The first flight was on AA metal. I made sure that my AA number was also on my Etihad PNR. I actually see my number on my boarding pass.

Thanks for choosing AAdvantage airline participants for your recent travel.

Well I guess I'm going to be joining the refund club.

My itinerary was listed as Chicago-Paris. Due to schedule change, layover in AUH didn't work so I requested flight back to be next day. Was sitting as On Request for 3+ weeks.

Now I'm being told by Vayama refund is only option due to Paris flight being NA

Yes i didnt take outbound becoz their agent said just with the 300$ change fees they can make it to a one way cancelling outbound. which resulted in refund of my entire ticket. they asked me to book one way back and they will investigate if it was problem from orbitz end.

Final conclusion they said it was not orbitz fault and they gave all the info regarding change fees.

I was successful in getting one of these tickets refunded, took a conference call between EY and the OTA to make it happen, even though EY agreed to it (there was a significant schedule change). I did this in February, so don't know if they've changed policy since then.

Also re: crediting, I did a different EY flight (the ctrip mobile to PVG fare) and one leg automatically credited, had to submit the rest. Still pending. All legs EY.

I have a question for anyone who first visited Abu Dhabi or Dubai recently through this mistake fare.

Did any of you guys get a set of four SSSS printed on your boarding pass upon return to the USA?

No, did not. But wasn't my first time in AUH or DXB.

I don't know if it was because it was my first time there, but I got the famous quad SSSS printed on my boarding pass.
