Heck, my entire reservation would cost less than $1. My reason for pursuing this with Travelocity is more to see how well they would back me up in the event I actually decided to go and the hotel didn't honor the rate.

In the end, she strongly recommended that I not cancel, and was so convincing that I didn't cancel the reservation. I am going to call back again and try to talk to someone higher-up though, because I didn't get the sense that this rep understood how cheap of a rate this was and that it might have been offered by mistake.

Will keep y'all posted.
Did you find out anything more from Travelocity? Caracas is not a very exciting place to be so I am considering going out to Porlamar tomorrow and trying to get the rate after all.

Not yet, but I have an email into them now explaining the situation and they promise to have a response within 4 hours. As soon as I hear something, I will post here.

Did you book thru Travelocity?

Good info, except they misstate the facts on Angel Falls. It is 979 meters tall, not 979 feet! Quite a sight to behold. It should definitely should be part of any itinerary to Venezuela. To see Angel Falls at its full beauty, it is best to go in rainy season (June - December)

Yes, I booked through Travelocity. What is their policy on arriving a day late?

If only all agencies took customer relations as seriously as Travelocity does. When I book at Travelocity, I feel safe. Major props to Travelocity for consistently standing on the customer's side ^

Not sure offhand, but I'd recommend calling them and trying to get them to assist, rather than taking on the hotel all by your lonesome. The non-tollfree number, which you can call from Venezuela, is +1-210-521-5871

Good news - I got a response from Travelocity.

Bad news - it seemed to say nothing more than "ulp, this might be an issue, we need more time to investigate" which is not what I expected. Also, it seems a bit strange that they asked me to show them what the rate was, when they have it in their own computers and I provided them with the reservation number!

Still, I will wait for further details before making any rash statements or doing anything foolish. Watch this space.

---

The email I got said:

Thank you for writing to Travelocity.

We are sorry for the inconvenience that was caused to you with regards
to your Hotel reservation.

Please provide us with the link where you see the hotel fare displayed
at $1, so that we may forward it to the concern department to look into
this. As your email requires further research.

We appreciate your patience and co-operation in this regard.

Regards,

XXX

How long are you down there for? I'd try to arrange a trip to Angel Falls instead, if I were in your shoes. Screw Porlamar and screw HoJo's

I am here until Wednesday and Angel Falls is only a daytrip from what I understand. The beach is more appealing to me anyway. For now I am planning on flying to Porlamar tomorrow and returning to CCS on Monday. Then back to the US on Wednesday. Caracas seems to be very difficult to navigate wihtout a car and without a local to keep you in safe areas.

More good news! Looks like despite the low rate, Travelocity is treating it as a "normal" situation not requiring them to change their policies, implement a special 800#, cancel "confirmed" reservations, etc. etc.

Big ^ ^ to Travelocity!

crhptic,

Thank you for responding,

We have checked your reservation and you will be charged in VENEZUELA
BOLIVAR (Currency in VENEZUELA). When you covert the same in dollars at
this time it comes as $0.15. You will be charged by bank on the current
exchange rate at the time of the charge.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions or
comments - we'll be happy to assist you..

Regards,
Caroline T

No disrepect to Caroline T, but when we have a man on the ground who says that the HoJo specifically told him they would not honor the rate, but Travelocity says "No worries", I would be inclined to err on the side of the HoJo front desk person.

I agree; in fact, in my last email back to Carolyn T. I explained that I fully expect to have problems at the hotel, and wanted to know what they would do for me if/when that occurs.

I don't expect the hotel to honor the rate. On the other hand, I sort of *do* expect Travelocity to either find me a comparable hotel room at that rate (presumably with them making up the difference in cost), or refunding me for whatever this hotel charges me above the agreed-upon rate.

One thing's for sure, I won't be sending myself to PMV without having this all a little more ironed out.

However, I am definitely curious to find out if Seeksreal is able to enlist the help of someone at Travelocity, and if so, what the outcome is for him.
