I don't recall TL's policy being to guarantee any rate - just that they'll do something to put a smile on your face...wheras Expedia will give you greyhairs & overdraft charges.

So,anyways - Have just sent off two identical emails to both TL & Expedia, saying am concerned about reports of friends trying to check-in at hotel & if they could confirm will be honoured. Shall be interesting to see the replies.

Well, seeing as how the rate is not likely to be honored when you get there anyway, I'm not sure why you would give someone anything in exchange for a reservation!

And from my mailbox is another note from Frommer's on this location.

"The Top 10 Up and Coming Destinations For 2006

Looking for a recommendation on the next must-see place? As the New Year approaches, it's time to consider where you'll want to go next year. We've selected 10 places that are coming into their own; they're not swarmed with tourists, and travelers can still find bargains to get there."

Did you hear anything interesting? I still have my January reservations which Travelocity urged me not to cancel. However, unless they can give me a little more comfort as to exactly what will happen if I go and the rate isn't honored, I am going to cancel them.

crhptic, I think you do NOT have your reservations. I might be wrong but I strongly believe that you don't have any of your rez'. Try to look them up on the Howard Johnson web page . In my case, the reservations are only in Travelocity but not on HoJo, which means they do not exist.

The reservations are not showing up on HOJO's website because they were not booked through hojo's website. There is a disclaimer on HoJo's page that states it will only show up if it was booked through their site. Expedia and Travelocity states advised me not to cancel because the hotel has to honor the rates since they were "confirmed" by the hotel.

Right but,

a) Do you remember one guy who actually went there and was refused?
b) I tried to call HoJo and to get confirmation. They refused.
c) None of my e-mails to HoJo were ever answered.

I doubt any reservation is still there.

I booked through hojo.com. I went to my email to look up the confirmation number just now to see if my reservation is online, and ironically I had just received a new confirmation from hojo.com, which had the room rate at $70 (USD) per night.

I think "still" there is the wrong word. I don't think it was ever there - if by "there" you mean on the Hojo site.

Also, I don't think the poster went and was told you have no reservation. I think he went and was told we will not honor this rate. A subtle, but important, difference if it means Travelocity will reimburse me should I have to pay a higher rate.

You stated that you booked through Travelocity. Have you asked Travelocity what their opinion is about the situation?

After 4 days now have the following;

Dear Mr Tristan727,
Thank you for contacting Expedia.co.uk regarding your booking at the Howard Johnson Hotel Tinajero.
We are currently investigating the pricing on this reservation and will update you accordingly.

Yours Sincerely,
Zoe

Nothing from TL yet, nada. Anyone fancy betting a longhaul J redemption that I am not updated accordingly by Expedia?

I did ask Travelocity. All they did is sending me their standard mails "we are investigating your case". After my 3rd reply, they want me to send them a letter with hard copies of the reservations that I did with them...
