Just when I thought I had made it out...
They lure me back in... After a grand total of 12 paid and 2 MR nights in 04, I had become a dedicated SPG man. Well, with the 18 nights to regain plat combined with the 30K MR points (by the way, I was offered the 5K/stay to 25K and a simple email from the web site got me "manually" switched to the 30K for 20 nights promotion - consistent with what others have already said...), looks like I'll be back in a CY for a few months. A real double-bonus for someone like me that will be losing plat status next week.
Congrats to Marriott - I am definitely in the target demographic for these promotions and they're working. Good luck all. |
I look at this as a 55K promo
30,000 for 20 nights 20,000 for 20 nights at about 100 bucks a night 5,000 for the 25% bonus on 20 nights @ 100 bucks a pop total 55,000 that I wasn't going to have.. in addition I have requalified for Plat as the added bonus someone asked if this was targeted.. it was written on paragraph 3 of my welcome to Gold Elite membership letter 1. Earn back your plat membership with 18 paid personal nights between 3/1 and 6/1 2. buy back for 50,000 MR points |

As a Gold, I was offered the 15 nights for 20,000 points deal.

As has been pointed out in other threads, points become more valuable when redeemed in large quantities. If you collect points (instead of miles) for each stay, after your account gets up to about 150K, each point is effectively an airline mile. |
From "Points of Interest":
Link is up: https://marriott.com/rewards/promoti...promotion=MGS5 Here are the potential bonuses, only one of which we can receive... MGS5A - Earn 2500 points every stay, starting with 2nd stay up to 10000 pts MGS5E - Make 2 stays, get 5000 points MGS5F - Earn 5000 points every 3rd stay, up to 25000 pts MGS5K - Earn 5000 points every 5 nights, up to 25000 pts MGS5P - Make 3 stays, get 10000 points total MGS5Q - Stay 15 nights, get 20000 points total MGS5R - Stay 20 nights, get 30000 points total I'm a new plat and was offered MGS5F, but would really like MGS5R. Think I'd have any luck with a call to the platinum line? _____ Trade ya', Points of Interest! I got the MGS5R, and would like the others. ****Added 3/12/05: Yes, I DID get to change via the Platinum line. Plats can choose (ONCE only per promo group like this) to be on a different variation than the one "assigned" by your previous usage pattern, and the change will be made on 6/6/05, after this one is over. It is to be noted on your account which change you wished, until they run the end totals. **** I'm Platinum, with 45+ nights so far this year, and the 70-something last year for Platinum with a max-out on the AmEx promo to 25K points. (20% of the year in a Marriott = Platinum...) I'm trying to get some "downtime" at home for a while. The house/yard is unkempt. But I'd prefer back credit :-( , not a future requirement. Would have been great this time LAST month! At this point I don't plan on (I hope) 2-3 more weeks in a hotel right now. Guess I won't make it on this promo ... Wish I could have chosen a "lighter" option, but no choice was given. One hint on extra stays for long-termers: If you pay on your extended stay each week, it counts as a stay. Caveat on paying for the "night ahead": If you pay on Sunday (for example) to INCLUDE Sunday, that Sunday night will -NOT- be included on your Rewards nights, unless the hotel clerk manually faxes the request in to MR to include Sunday. You must watch this carefully, or you will lose nights and points. So if that happens, call 'em up, and get them to check with the hotel, and it will be added on... and counted as (you guessed it!) another stay. That is how an extended stay can actually meet the "x stays for y points" promos. |

The press release has been issued for the MegaBonus promotion. The only thing of interest is that there appears to be a discrepancy between the release and what the FAQs say on the promo registration page.
From the Release: "Marriott Rewards members may register at any point between Feb. 15 and May 15, and their nights stayed during this period will be retroactively counted toward the bonus, even if some stays occurred during the period prior to registration." From the FAQs:"Do stays made prior to registration count toward the promotion? -- Yes, as long as you register during the promotion. If a check-in or check-out date falls within the promotion date range, you will get credit for the stay." While the release states that we have to register by 5/15, the FAQs say we have to register by the end of the promo, which is 6/1. My feeling is that there is a typo in release (last year the promotion ended on 5/15).As a plat, I was planning to call and register toward the end of promotion once I figured out which bonus was best for me. No use switching to MGS5R if my project gets cancelled and I don't complete the 20 required nights. I also wish Marriott would quit its "get there 30 percent faster than with other leading programs" campaign. It just isn't true. |

Also a good deal if you already have a bunch of points. As has been pointed out in other threads, points become more valuable when redeemed in large quantities. If you collect points (instead of miles) for each stay, after your account gets up to about 150K, each point is effectively an airline mile. Understood, and I have done so. Now my balance is low and they aren't worth that much. At best, it seems like it's worth 2 upscale nights if you have a place you want to stay several nights. Still not much for 20 nights compare to Starwood promos. |

I don't know if that is a standard, or if others will be offered different night requirements or bonuses. Registration is required; award stays don't count, and you must be earning Marriott points (not airline miles) to receive this bonus. Of course, it is on top of the points you would already accrue for your stays. J |
30k for 20 nights. Posting
Just stayed twice for two nights each since March 1. Thought the posting was going to be at same time as stay. Asked the Platinum line and they said that it will be after the end of the promo. HOWEVER - If I only get to 19 nights by the end, I will get ZERO.
Plan to call again. |

Call and switch to another promo. And so there's no confusion - "Stay 3, get 10,000" does not mean 20,000 for 6 stays, 30,000 for 9 stays, etc; "Stay twice for 5,000" does not mean 4 stays gets 10,000. And "night" <> "stay" |

I'm Silver for life and got the 25K max Megabonus https://marriott.com/rewards/promoti...MGS5&psrc=MRMS . I'm just going to do my 15 stays (already booked) then back to Hilton. I easily do at least 80 stays every year so Marriott will miss additional
stays by not offering the bigger Megabonus to me. |
I am a Hilton Diamond but for my next 3 trips I need to stay at a Marriott because it's next door to my client. So this was great timing for me! I have zero status with Marriott and I just got the 2500 every stay up to 10k bonus. Marriott may as well be psychic because this is the only bonus that would have done me any good based on my upcoming stays. I'll end up with 5000 extra points for my 3 stays which I had to do anyway. (The 15 nights one would have been nice too but I would have had to do 2 mattress runs to get the bonus.)
Thanks Marriott experts! - Truly |
