No status, 2 stays in 2005 and got this one:

Earn: 2,500 Marriott Rewards bonus points for every paid stay, starting with your second paid stay (up to a total of 10,000 points).

If both threads are getting posts, close the 2005 thread and post a link to the 2006 thread. @:-)

I voiced the same concern by PM to the moderator but got shot down. I'm ok with thread maintenance, but this is a little overboard.

You state this as "fact" when it is actually your "opinion". I join the growing crowd whose "opinion" is that a separate 2006 thread is less confusing.

Very confusing. I read though almost the first page when I realized the dates. This is a real screw up having the thread continue from the 05 mega thread. Since 05 has passed I would think it would be easier to just kill the original thread and make a new one.
Oh yea, logic.
All the same, logged in and found
15 nights at any of more than 2,600 Marriott® hotels worldwide between February 15 and May 15, 2006 and receive 25K. :D

There seems to be a lot more than thread maintenance going on. Didn't the mod say something about how his actions are so light that we would never know he is there?

Has anyone posted in support of the mod’s decision?

Big Mo Jan 18, 2006 11:17 am

I wasn't confused by the old posts, because I always click "View First Unread," which automatically jumps past all the old posts.

Combining the threads is efficient. It requires less work for the mod than moving every new message erroneously posted in the old thread into the new thread. The obvious alternative would be for the mod to do nothing at all but, in that case, we would have to read both threads to see all relevant posts. This way, they're all right here in a single thread.

The choice is subjective, and the mod's decision should be entitled to deference. The action taken is not worthy of a complaint, IMO. It's not a big deal, especially if you use "View First Unread."

I know, let's make it really efficient and have only one thread.

I apparently have more to do with my time than read every single post on FT so that I can click the "View First Unread". :D

Yeah but had anyone posted in the almost year-old thread? Like someone else suggested, the mod could have simply closed the old thread if that happened and as the last post in the old thread - pointed people to the new thread. Done.

Either way, I would recommend we move on back to the topic at hand as this thread has gone too far off the tangent - it's obivious the mod has made up his/her mind...that's why we have mods...if s/he doesn't feel it should be 2 threads, we have to live with it.

So.....back OT. A colleague who just recently started with MR and earned Silver at the very end of the year got the 2,500/stay - 10K max offer. Seems to me that the mid-level stay-ers (Gold-ish, maybe low level Plat?) are getting the "better" offers. Newbies get a smaller offer (which was my case this time last year) and "seasoned stayers" (high level Plat) get low offers....

Not necessarily. I'm a Plat and had 140 or so nights last year, and got the highest offer (20 nights/35k points) automatically assigned.

So it's official then - there is no method to their madness :D

I was targeted but not pre-registered for the 2500 after 2nd stay up to 10K offer. I called the Platinum line and was able to switch to the 35K for 20 nights offer.

Put me down as another vote for finding a combined 2005/2006 thread confusing :D

VA1379 Jan 18, 2006 6:29 pm

I wonder why some people are preregistered and others are not despite having the same elite status. I was preregistered for 15 nights and 25K points.

Stevefrombc Jan 18, 2006 7:00 pm

 I'm gold & once again got the "5,000 Marriott Rewards bonus points every third paid stay (up to a total of 25,000 points)."

I always stay 4 nights at a time so this is really not the best offer for me. I will try to call change it.

VOTE: Split the 2005 & 2006 threads - YES

back seat Jan 18, 2006 7:07 pm

I am platinum and was pre-registered for 35,000

I wish this thread was split into 2 as well.

SlowTrekker Jan 18, 2006 7:58 pm

The 2500 after 2nd stay for me. Guess that's what I get for sliding down to sub-silver
