1000 Marriot points for using Mobile Check-in

Did anyone else receive that limited time Mobile App check-in promotion? It came up on my phone I think. I was already using the Mobile Check-in so of course I did it again. I have not received any points yet.

I was just wondering because right after I received that message the app malfunctioned for a bit and then came back up.

I also checked in yesterday for today and received my room ready message this morning. I don't really care about room upgrades when traveling without the family. This mobile Check-in allows me to just grab my keys and go.

Also I have been recognized by the front desk and they have excused themselves for a second to just hand me the keys. They already know I want the points.

I'll called CS and was told that the promotion was from the 1st to the 7th of Oct. My only use was on the 1st and I have to wait the six to eight weeks since I don’t actually remember when I signed up.

Those participating hotels join the 329 hotels in the U.S. and Canada that launched the service in September. The lodging brand intends to complete the rollout to all 500 of its hotels, as well as add checkout functionality, in the first half of 2014."

List:

* Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa
* San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino
* Manila Marriott Hotel
* Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit
* Singapore Marriott Hotel
* Goa Marriott Resort & Spa

I am a person who will try and do as much self-service as I can - banking, booking travel, checking-in online for flights, self-service purchases as grocery stores. I've even poured my own beer at the pub!

However, I really don't see any value in online check-in at a hotel. Given the need to check and verify identity before giving over a card-key requires some human intervention (save having something like passport verified check-in). And given that check-in has almost always been quick, I see no need to automate it. As well, unlike check out when many people are trying to check-out at once, people checking in come at varying times.

Automated / Online check-out, though, I happily accept. I've seen the check-out lines between 11 and 12.

I'll still check in the normal way so as not to screw up an upgrade.

I was wondering how they picked the 20 properties to be the int'l roll-out?

Cheers.

Are elite upgrades available with mobile check in? If yes, are they just following the standard rules or are double upgrades possible? Otherwise I would stick with normal check in, despite me using self-service quite everywhere I can.

They could offer this as an incentive for reducing employees workload.

At first glance I thought Marriott didn't know it's geography as I didn't think Waikiki was int'l . But then I reread the announcement & it says 20 properties outside the cont'l US.

Cheers.

I fail to see the point of mobile check in. Currently that is. Until the day where the room keys are NFC compatible and I can use my mobile phone to unlock the door. The app whould then be able to communicate with the hotel system to know that I have checked in and give me access to the room.

Totally agree with everything you posted.

In the case of a Country such as China which requires a visa check, it could be tricky for the hotels to check-in 100% electronically. Be interesting to see if hotels want to be put in the middle of it.

I've only done it once, but when I did, they already had my key-cards ready, and in the folder with the room number on it. I was apparently the last one left as when I said I had done the online checkin, she knew who I was. I don't remember if I had to show an ID or not, but she didn't have to do anything in the computer.

Marriott expands mobile check-in to int'l properties

I've been doing some testing of the mobile check in at 3-4 properties in USA and Canada.. As a plat elite, I have booked the cheapest room and always been upgraded to concierge floor.

What I like about the check in - they send you a push notification to your phone when your room is ready. This has happened as early as 10am. The hotel lets you know the room is ready.

At check in I've not been asked for id, the packet is ready for me, and they just confirm what welcome gift I want and advise me of my room and lounge hours and am in my way.

I think the benefit is knowing the room is ready before normal check in - if that is useful. Otherwise room upgrades seem to be going through.

Smart Locks?

Has anyone got any additional updates on the mobile check in? My concern is about the upgrades.

I think now the next step is to get smart locks where upon check in, you get some sort of bar code and you can go directly to your room and unlock the door with you phone. This will totally eliminate the manual process of getting your room keys.

I spoke with someone at a FS property about upgrades and using the app last fall. My take on it was that I was better off not using it.

I never seem to spend a lot of time checking in, especially when there is a Plat check in area.

Looking at some upcoming reservations on the app, I see I can add them to my Google Calendar.

Kind of.

They show up on my phone's calendar, but not my desktop. I just added an itin from DL from my desktop, and a meeting from my phone. Everything syncs like they always do, except the Marriott dates.

I really just wish I could add a reservation to to my Calendar with a couple of clicks like I can with Hilton's site (cough, cough).
