Nope, I had to choose something other than points. You might be able to talk the property into manually adding the points to your account (as a separate transaction from your stay) but officially miles earning stays don't have that as an option for the amenity.

You can signed up your megabonus point promotion, then switch your earning from points to miles, then you will see the megamiles promotion show up in your promotion center. You can then sign up for the megamiles promotion and start to earn miles. So you can take part in both megabonus and megamiles promotion within the same period. You can even switch between back and forth between these two promotion, but your stays will only counted toward one or the other, not both.
However, you cannot earn both points or miles at the same stay. So if you choose to earn miles, you cannot take points as arrival gifts. From my experience, many hotels don't even know that. Many times, FDA ensured me I can absolutely take the points as arrival gift when my profile set to earn miles. But the points had never gone through and post onto my account. And on the hotel's computer system, it never showed any error, or prevented FDA from doing so. They had never realized the points didn't post. It all looks good on their side. The points went out from their pocket into the system.
There was only one time, the bonus points post. What happened? it was a reward stay, and I didn't earn any miles. So the points went through. After that, I speculated it's Marriott's software system that has this glitch that prevents both points or miles from being post on the same stay regardless what Marriott's policies are.
There is another workaround. Some more experience FDA knew about the limitation, and what they did was to post the bonus points separately, i.e. not as arrival gift, and not related to the stay. Then, on other stays, I asked other FDA to do the same thing, but they had no idea how to do it. Then I gave up, and simply took the amenities.

it is possible to switch back and forth, but when on miles, the nights do not count toward your lifetime status either (so some may want to consider this).

OK, sorry for the duplicate question but I wasn't able to find clarification in the preceding 25 pages.....
I got the "two stays = 1 free Cat 4 certificate". My question is what defines a "stay"? The T&C seem to suggest that a "stay" is "consecutive nights" meaning at least 2 nights at the same property. Is this in fact true?
In the past a single night also qualified as a "stay". Did this change for this promotion?
Any definitive clarification is appreciated.

So, if you spend Monday night at hotel one, then check out on Tuesday morning (one night, one stay).
On Tuesday, you check into hotel two (in the same or a different city as hotel one), and then check out Wednesday morning (one night, one stay).
On Wednesday, you check into hotel one (again) or hotel three, and then check on Thursday morning and fly home (one night, one stay).
You would then have three nights credit, but ALSO, THREE STAYS CREDIT. If you would have stayed in hotel one for all three nights, you would still have three nights credit, but you would only have one stay credit. In order to receive credit for a different stay, you must check out, and also leave the hotel. Checking in, checking out, but staying in the same hotel and checking in again on consecutive days will only count for one stay.
Make sense?

If anyone has actual confirmed knowledge as to whether the current promo considers a single-night reservation as a "stay" can you chime in? Dont want to waste any opportunities.

Yup. Always knew that separate reservations on successive nights at one property still only constituted one stay. You have to have non-consecutive nights for them to be separate stays.

Yes. A 1 night stay = a stay.
(doesn't matter how many nights, but consecutive nights, even if 1, still equates to 1 stay).

No, the definition of 'a stay' did not change.

I stayed 1 night at a FS Marriott.
Next night, for 1 night, I stayed at a CY.
Few days later, a Cat 1-4 was posted to my MR account.
(And, yes, I asked this question up thread a few weeks ago but didn't get anyone specifically clarifying this point. You, as I did, read what the Ts & Cs actually said and figured out that there was ambiguity in how it defined a stay in the context of this promotion.)
So, upshot is: for the current MegaBonus promotion, 1 stay > = 1 night at a MR property.

That's what I needed to hear! Thanks for confirming an actual posting of a 1 night Cert under those conditions.

I was very fortunate this weekend and skirted this rule. Originally planned on staying TH and FR nights at a property for a wedding, and then moving on Sat morning to a property a few blocks down to take advantage of the Megabonus. As the stay progressed a few of the groomsmen ended up sharing the room and it was decided it would be our base to get ready for the wedding on Saturday. I went downstairs Saturday morning to add a night and they were slammed with people checking in for the wedding so I pulled up marriott.com and made a 1 night reservation to make sure I got the room at the same rate before they possibly sold out or whatever. Called down later and told them the situation. They kept me in the same room and they ran it as 2 transactions. I have a folio for the first two nights and a separate folio for the 3rd night. The stay credit for the 3rd night posted today along with the Cat 1-4 cert. (Which I was definitely not expecting.)

Thanks! If it doesn't that's ok since I shouldn't have earned it anyways. I was prepared to play the game and jump to another property but the convenience of the situation and staying put won out this trip.

With the recent cat 4 devaluation I'm hoping I won't get the free night MegaBonus offers (instead of the points ones) any more as there no longer are no cat 4 Marriott related hotels in Scandinavia.
