Thank you drewzilla! As you suspected, I had called the MR care line. MR reservations was able to make the reservation without difficulty. I very much appreciate your top-notch advice.

I still think there's a bug in redeeming this cert online. Strange that it works for most properties but not all.

Does this night count?

Checked T&Cs but couldn't find conclusive answer.

Had a 3-night stay from March 30 through February 1st (check-out on 2/2) and am on the 20 nights MegaBonus promotion.

Will this 3rd night -- which was in the promotion period -- count towards the 20 nights since the stay started before the promotion period?

Either March 30 through February 1 is a much longer than 3 day stay, or you meant January 30 through February 1.

Assuming that you meant January 30 through February 1, that is also incorrect, the correct days would be January 30 (check in date) through February 2 (check out date).

To answer your question, yes, the night of February 1 will/does count towards Spring 2013 Mega Bonus. The only thing which counts for Mega Bonus is the NIGHT, in this case, the night of February 1 was a paid night, and therefor will count for nights required to qualify for your bonus period. The nights of January 30 and January 31 will NOT count as nights required to qualify for your bonus period of February 1 through April 30.

The Marriott Copenhagen is approximately 46 kilometers/29 miles away from the Renaissance Malmo. Is the lounge really so important that traveling that distance twice daily (if your original intended destination is Sweden for Eurovision or any specific purpose, and not Denmark) would be really worthwhile?

The current Mega Bonus already has a cat. 1-5 option, at least for some people, why not call MR and ask whether they will give you that option?
Well, as far as I know, the only property in the area that has a lounge in Rome is the Rome Marriott Park hotel, which is really far from the city. IIRC the Naples property didn't have one either.

I am staying in Malmo for the concert, because I booked it as a category 4 and can use past megabonus certs. My commentary was for people who don't have a preference/are willing to stay in either city. They are connected by a very very short train ride.

And this time around they are being really stingy about changing megabonus offers, especially to the 1-5 ones. So definitely YMMV.

I ended up getting a stay credit that I didn't expect, so now looking for a mattress run night anywhere between NYC and Wilmington (Delaware). I can get the Fairfield Inn in Parsippany for $67 + tax = $77. Ideas for anything less?

Try LNF - if you don't know what it is, please check out the LNF for newbies thread.

There is also a thread about the cheapest Marriott in the US.

Megabonus 2013 - will be 1 night short (24 nights). Suggestions?

Due to a week long conference in a Hyatt in Orlando, I'll be missing the 50,000-point megabonus promotion by a single night. In addition to my business travel, my stays during the promotion even included 4 personal nights at a Courtyard, and 1 night in a FS.

What are my options?
  • Does MR make exceptions?
  • Should I stay out of town an extra night on my next business trip? (frowned upon by the company, PLUS - I'm already out of town most of April and would only see the wife 1 night before I leave again for a full 7 days)
  • Should I book a night in a local Marriott?
  • Can I pay for a night and not actually stay?
  • Other?

Sucks to have traveled so hard for work during the last couple of months and even mixed in +$500 in personal stays and come up one night short!

15K points is on the line not 50K (You should be getting 35K when you hit 20 nights). You could also call in and switch to another version of the Megabonus.

Find the cheapest one you can find, book it & check-in. Up to you on whether to actually stay the night, but you do need to check in.

Cheers.

I am in the same boat for much the same reason, the company national sales meeting, staying at a lesser property in Orange County to keep cost down.

Find a FI or CY that has a cheap weekend rate, check in and head on out.

I can't find much under $80 in the Richmond area, but 15k points makes it tolerable. Perhaps your company rate will be less, or you can try the Norfolk area once the government contractors stop visiting the area.

Other people have no paid nights (i.e. "work nights") and don't complain about that! Just book your nights and good is!
