Hey, we'll be there the exact same dates ^

But, I used points as part of a travel package (for our honeymoon)

Taking a quick glance at the Marriott rates, they have a $150 per night option.

Good luck. And maybe we'll see you there.

Bangkok Marriott Points Stay - Room Upgrade Worth it?

I'm a Platinum, and am planning a trip to Asia this fall. I'll be staying at the Bangkok Marriott. When I went to book the hotel, a standard room was shown for points, but then other rooms were shown (one was called "river view") for either more points, or a combination of points and money ($20/day, if I recall correctly). Is it worthwhile to go for the upgraded room, or should I just count on being upgraded because I'm a Platinum?

It depends on what you want. Do you really, really want that upgrade? Enough to pay for it or are you willing to chance not getting it? If you don't pay for it and then don't get upgraded, will it completely taint your stay? If so, don't chance it. $20/night is not that much for a room upgrade at a Marriott.

I've never stayed there, but in general, I would guess that your chance of getting a view room upgrade would be fairly good (based on experiences with other Marriott hotels and previous threads on this hotel.)

I have stayed in Bangkok Marriott several times in 2005 and 2006. I always got an upgrade, being Gold. This is an excellent hotel and Gold/Platinum members are treated very well. I believe there are plenty of threads in FT describing this hotel. BTW, my stays were paid stays. I have always booked them via www.asiarooms.com: very good prices. No points for the rate, though, you will get points for all other accidentals (like food). Upon check-in, I just showed my Gold card and all benefits of the Gold were there, including separate check-in in Executive lounge, lounge access, free breakfast in executive lounge and the restaurant, various discounts in restaurants. You will enjoy this hotel, regardless of a room type.

My wife and I stayed at the Bangkok Marriott in July for our 25th Anniversary and it is one of the best Marriott experiences I've had. The Concierge Lounge is on the main floor, just off the Lobby, and they treat you like royalty. As soon as I went to the desk and identified myself, as a Platinum, my wife and I were quickly escorted to the Lounge for check-in and told to relax and have refreshments while our luggage was taken to our room and the room "prepared" for our arrival. About 20 minutes later the bellman came back and told us, by name, that our room was now ready for us. We had a gorgeous room (don't think it was an upgrade) and the srvice was impeccible! This is the first hotel that I think I must have tipped every employee that we came in contact with that week. It was just that impressive. You'll love it!

Anyone used airport shuttle at Bangkok hotels?

All,

We're booking a trip to Asia and have an overnight in Bangkok. Most of the Marriott hotels in Asia list an airport shuttle as an amenity, but I can't find any record on Flyertalk of anyone taking one. Everyone seems to take cabs.

Has anyone used one of these?

Thanks,
Mike

The Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa does not have a free shuttle. They will send a car for you if you like, but it will cost you more than double (maybe triple) a taxi. The taxi ride from the hotel to the new airport is 500 Baht.

I've always been upgraded to a river view room (even as GE). This is one of my favorite properties in the Marriott system.

My last taxi ride from the JWM to the new BKK airport was Bt190+Bt60 tolls. That's about US$6.75. The JWM's car service is listed on their Web site as Bt2200 (~US$62). You decide!

Being the rocket scientist that I am, it never even occured to me to check to see if the airport had an attached hotel. Sorry, Marriott, I think my money is going to Novotel in this case.

I sent an email to the GM (as we are going to stay at this hotel for one week for our honeymoon) and he put a block in the system for me for a deluxe suite.

or you can also purchase this card (you can send an email to them and they'll let you purchase this card as a US resident):

http://www.marriottgoldthailand.com/benefits.htm

Take a look at the benefits and see if it is a good deal for you. It was for us as we are staying at two of the included hotels. You get room upgrade certificates with the card as well (it cost me ~$170 for the card).

I'll be writing up some trip reports when we get back.

My Fiancee and I stayed for 1 night in December at the GOV rate.

We were upgraded from a Std Room to a Deluxe Suite overlooking the river.

One of the nicest rooms I've ever stayed in.

What helped is that Im a Platinum Premier, This was only 1 night, and I have stayed at the JW in BKK, Pattaya, and Phuket quite a bit over the past few years.

Thumbs down Courtyard Bangkok - To Much Noise

As they continue to renovate the Courtyard Bangkok the construction work continues after 10 PM despite their construction permit limit. So much for Marriott's PR!!

Marriott Resort - Bangkok

Quick Questions:

1) Which is best way to get to the hotel from airport ?
- Taxi
- Limo

I saw hotel has shuttle for $50+ one way. This seems to be extremely high given they list $12 one way for the taxi.

2) Does the Platinum member receive free breakfasts on reward stays ?

3) Have early flight at 6:30 AM. What time is good time to leave the hotel ?

Any other pointers about the hotel would be appreciated also.

Thanks.
