Hi everyone,

I have an SPG Business Amex (and personal SPG Amex too) with $9K limit. It was increased from $3K to $9K about 7 months ago--and this card gets a lot of use since I stay so often at SPG hotels for work.

Does Amex make a hard pull for a credit line increase request? I am considering requesting a credit line of $20-25K, less than the common 3x increase that Amex normally permits.

Please advise with my thanks if you have experience with this!

Amex CLIs are soft pulls.

End of AMEX SPG Credit Card

What is your best guess as to how and when this card will be phased out?

Sometime in 2018. It takes one year to close and one more year to integration operations.

Why is there an assumption that the card will be phased out?

Equally likely is a non-exclusive relationship, as Hilton has with Citi and Amex.

Of course, Amex could win the bidding war with Chase and become the exclusive issuer for the combined SPG-Marriott.

The card would need to be changed if and when SPG is rolled into Marriott - but even that is speculation at this point. There is the (slight) possibility that they maintain SPG as a stand-alone program for some time.

It will depend on what Chase and Amex can offer and the nature of the credit card contracts between Marriott-Chase and Starwood-Amex. It is possible that both cards might continue, or that one continues to be offered while the other continues to exist but with no further cards on offer (much like AA continued with Citi exclusively but allowed Barclay to continue its US cards as AA Aviator cards, but with no further opportunity to add AA cardholders).

Because Chase is entrenched with Marriott and it will outmaneuver Amex. The entrails are telling this haruspex that Chase prevails, not Amex.

This. UA club lounge got eliminated from AMEX platimun PP, MR to BA transfer ratio decreased...Chase is very unlikely to have as much tolerance as Citi.

Personally not an AMEX hotel credit card fan. Increased Annual fees by $30 and made a huge deal about a benefit (No FTF) almost every hotel credit card already has? Sorry I don't buy it. Chase is way better in this regard.

A couple of things, I don't think UA Club's were ever part of the Amex Platinum card benefit. Continental's Presidential Club's were, and what nixed the relationship was Continental and United merging and Chase won that battle. This is no different from US Airways Club's getting dropped because they merged with AA, and Chase won that battle.

Regarding, the Amex card, I actually value the Boingo internet access at $30 a year or more. While I have Xfinity at home, and enjoy the cable hotspots, ouside, Boingo has most airports covered than anyone with real high speed Wifi.

Citi won that battle, although Barclaycard is allowed to keep existing accounts open.

I just called in last week to cancel the card. The very nice rep who answered the phone asked me why and I just said I don't need the card, besides which Marriott is buying SPG. She agreed that the acquisition changes things and processed the cancellation.

I was not offered any retention bonus, nor did I ask for one. I have the Canadian version of the card though and we don't really get the bonuses available in the US.

It comes with PP, which included a lot of UA Clubs long time ago (before Chase was aggressive enough).

I just use my corporate phone's hot spot and Verizon is pretty good either at hotspot or FIOS. So Boingo is worth nothing to me. I fly AA/OneWorld mostly so AMEX is not a good companion for me. However I just don't like how AMEX changes the benefits with change in AF in small Q&A words - Chase and Citi are way better handling benefits changes IMO. (Citi Premier/Prestige and Chase SP small benefits changes for instance)

UA Clubs are no longer participating with Priority Pass at all as of this year. However, since I think 2012 or 2013, the Priority Pass issued as a result of you holding a credit card (and not just Amex, it applied to all issuers) were Priority Pass Select cards, and the only difference between select and regular Priority Pass cards is that you couldn't get into the United Club.

I'm in charge of a 40-person meeting at my local SPG hotel. Catering bill at hotel will be about $5k. The total room revenue for meeting guests is about $13k. How many points can I anticipate by putting it on my SPG Amex? Would it be 5x for the 5k catering bill? 2x Amex points at SPG property and 3x SPG points? I have a contract but I can't quite figure out the end game. Do I get anything for the room revenue?

Has anyone had issues with the points from their December statement posting?

The points from my SPG Amex usually post on the 4th of each month, but nothing still for my December statement so far...
