The rates for these should show up on the Choose a Room page if they work, right? Most of the time if it doesn't work I'll just get the "the special rate you selected is not available for the dates you requested" message. But then I tried HPR and didn't get that message, but it doesn't say anything about buying 3, get 1 free.

Are you certain? Many times something like that is seen only if you open the "rate rules".

ALSO - you may have better luck if you search an area rather than one property. For example, I might enter MCO and then the code LPR...which will then show me ALL the hotels who are offering that rate in Orlando.

Gives you a lot more options...and unless you are determined to stay at one particular property, can often save you a lot of money!

Did that too and didn't see anything. I even went in as if I was about to make a reservation and it was showing what the regular total would be.

But as to your second point it is weird because only 3 properties come up when I put in that code, as opposed to 19 when I didn't put in anything.

I did find this other thread on here...is this code related to Hertz?

A couple learnings...
1) any company that uses 3 letters for codes (like Marriott and Hertz use) are going to end up with duplicate codes- because the variety with only 3 letters is NOT infinite. So, yes it is a Hertz but is also a Marriott code. (very nice search skills by the way, mine are abysmal)
2) what IS odd is that they both identify the same promotion...but perhaps it is a shared promo - I didn't dig that deep.
3) it is NOT odd that the code only pulled up 3 hotels...that is often what happens. The number varies of course, but not every hotel offers all codes, which is why we have the list.

So it is a PITA, but the best thing to do is to check all codes one by one for an area - especially if rates are high. Only you can decide if the time and effort is worth it.

GoPhils Jul 18, 2012 6:43 pm

Yeah, I just thought it was odd because the code obviously limited the hotel choices, it's just that the code didn't seem to give you any different rates than normal.

If it helps, I was looking at Hilton Head for 8/31-9/4. I know it's Labor Day weekend so wasn't really expecting to find much.

But now I did find something weird because I was curious and looked at random other dates and places. In Charlotte several options came up, and for example the SpringHill Suites by the airport came up at $139 for this "special rate," but the "rate rules" don't say anything about what makes it special...especially since you can get a room for $89 under the standard rate section.

Yep, that is the thing with those codes. They don't change - so on your dates they are more - but check mid-week on a busy travel week and it probably is a pretty good deal. Especially because if there is nothing in the rate rules...which would then make it eligible for a BRG claim; so the rate would be roughly $96.

But I will also say that something is wrong with the Marriott site tonite - I was checking some things out for you and when I entered CLT I kept getting hotels in Hickory!

GoPhils Jul 18, 2012 7:44 pm

Were you checking around Labor Day in CLT? Probably not a glitch, that is the Democratic Convention. The rates in CLT I was referring to were for next weekend I believe.

Look at that thread again. It all (first to last post) dates from 2007!

And look at the last post of that thread: It says: It's not supposed to work, but it sometimes has. In other words, it sounds like maybe it never reduced your rate at the reservation, but sometimes (but not guaranteed) it ended up with you not charged for the third night?

In other words, this doesn't sound like a code you should use if you don't want to pay the regular room rate. This sounds like a code you could use if you can't find anything better, and you want to "experiment" with whether you'll get charged less or not.

(Me, personally, I don't like such experiments. I'd look for a lower confirmable rate, like the normal $89 you mentioned, and ignore such an iffy discount code. But maybe that's just me...)

FWIW, I've found (in various hotel programs, not just Marriott) many discount codes that produce no discount from the lowest rate in an area. Sometimes they produce a discount only at the most expensive hotels (and then only a slight discount, so if I was looking for the least expensive hotel, who cares), sometimes they produce a discount only for certain room types (not the cheapest room type at the hotel), sometimes they add "more" to your room rather than lowering the cost (but whether that "more" is of any use to your not, that's a separate question). And some raise the price you see at first glance on a hotel because either they only work for some room types (and not the cheapest, and now it's only showing you the room types the rate works with), or because they add "more" but then charge a substaintial part of the cost of that "more" (ie, a rate might give you breakfast for two people at slightly below the in-hotel cost of the breakfast for two people, but way above the in-hotel cost of the breakfast for one person).

That's why I always just check the regular rates first before trying the codes, so I'll know if I'm really getting a discount or a reasonable one or some add-on w/ the code that the regular rate doesn't offer.

Cheers.

Any valid codes of Central London

Have a stay coming up on a Thursday night in two weeks and have tried about 12 codes from page one - none of them are coming up valid.

Could someone kindly help me locate a code which can provide a discount?

Thanks in advance for your help.

That is the only way to do it. You have to try EVERY code for your hotel and dates.
