The hotel is less than 10 years old. Maybe even 5. It opened when the Convention Center there opened, which seems to have been circa 1998.

I stayed there as a Gold and was given a standard room. That was 1999 when the SPG program was just getting under way, though.

And yes - $2 parking is only in the casinos (they were free until the early 90's sometime). This is not a casino hotel. No slots. No Dice.

Frankly, it wouldn't be worth it to me to park 5 blocks away to save $6. Convenience has a price, I suppose. And it's not necessarily an easy walk since you have to make your way around the bus terminal and go through numerous large intersections.

Sheraton Atlantic City recent experiences?

I'm using my points to stay at the Sheraton Atlantic City for one night this weekend (checking in New Year's day) to celebrate a friend's b-day.

What are my chances of getting an upgrade and are their any other "amenities" that are offered by this property for Platinum members? How far is the hotel from the Borgata where we have dinner reservations? Is it walkable? Also, any insight on the parking situation?

Any and all info would be helpful as this is my first time staying at this property.

I've never stayed there, but do recall that it's right by the train station and the new convention center. It's walkable (about a 10 minute walk) to Caesar's - I did the walk during an afternoon - and it wasn't that bad. But doubt you'd want to make that walk at night. Since the Borgata is over at the Marina, and not on the Boardwalk - you're not within walking distance.

Otherwise, Atlantic City has these jitneys that run 24/7 - (see http://jitney.bigstep.com/ ) that go all over the place. I don't know if they run to the Borgata (my only visit there was while the Borgata was under construction). Jitneys or taxis may work for you.

Self-parking is $8 if I recall correctly. I'm not sure about valet as I rarely use it. I stayed twice, both times during a freezing cold Friday night in January (but I got great $69 rates to compensate). My first stay as a plat was not very remarkable. No upgrade, but I was given access to the lounge (crowded and picked over). My second stay in January of this year was much better. There were no conventions in town and the hotel was not very full, so I was upgraded (without asking) to an end unit “VIP” suite. The suite had an entry area with a lighted picture of a past Miss America, curved walls, huge granite bathroom with a TV, and large living room. Unfortunately back in January they still did not have the Sweet Sleeper beds, but I think they finally have them, which will be good for you as the old ones were very uncomfortable.

When I walked into the VIP suite I went “wow”, but after a few minutes it became apparent that the room was faux luxury. Construction and materials were not very high quality. Sort of the hotel room equivalent of 40-mph architecture. Still, it was enjoyable and a steal at $69. For new Years weekend… I think you chances will be pretty slim… but good luck anyway!

re: Access, it is quite convenient (across the street) from the train station. The jitneys are convenient. In addition, Caesars Palace runs a complimentary limo service to Caesars on select times - check with the desk.

The lounge was quite nice for breakfast. Sub-par fitness center and pool. Comfortable rooms. Others have reported difficulty with late check out requests.

I stayed about 3 weeks ago on a Sunday evening. In general the rooms are a bit above average for a domestic US Sheraton. The hotel was probably the last property to get the Sweet Sleeper beds, and now that they have them there is little to complain about (but I’ll try ). I was upgraded to a club King room (no upgrade to suite as there was some group that gobbled them all up) which will get you on the top 2 floors, mouthwash, a robe, and most importantly the triple sheeted down blanket rather than one of those revolting hotel blankets. Pet peeves are florescent lighting, lousy in room coffee, and poor shower pressure. Sound proofing between rooms was Ok, but hall noise and door slamming is noticeable. The AC is reasonably quiet. The view from the room of the hotel casinos along the boardwalk at night is fairly nice.

There is a club lounge on the top floor that is the size of two (maybe 3) rooms. The Continental breakfast is OK, but as usual the pastries suck so I stuck to toast, fruit and cereal. The coffee was pretty lousy in there too.

They do have an indoor pool that is pretty nice. I have used it before and they keep it nice and warm. There is also a spa pool outside. Now that the outlet mall is complete the walk over to the boardwalk is much nicer than it used to be.

This was my 3rd visit, so I find it an OK place to stay. I have always had sub $100 rates and would not want to spend much more than that for this hotel. If you want a splurge it is better to go to one of the casino hotels like The Borgata.

I've stayed at the Sheraton AC about a half dozen times although not recently; I think that the last time I stayed there was about 2 years ago. It's a decent Sheraton with all the standard Sheraton amenities.

However, if you're going to AC to gamble, you ought to know that the hotel does not have a casino, and it is not on the Boardwalk. It will take you 10-15 minutes to get to the Boardwalk or a casino.

Best of luck on your trip.

too far of a walk to the nearest casino and nightlife.. always prefer to stay in a casino hotel in AC to grab that excitement feeling.

3 blocks is too far to walk? you people are crazy.

TexasRoxy: if you stay there don't eat at the Tun Tavern downstairs, it's cr..p

by the way, when I stayed there about 6 weeks ago they said the club floor is being renovated or something and I would be better off on a different floor, they gave me a room with the casinos/boardwalk view which was nice but the windows were dirty so it was not too nice. the room was small(did not matter to me) and the hotel was not great but ok.

Beware of the valet parking company. It's outsourced and managerd extremely poorly. I'm at this hotel every year for a convention. 2 years ago one of the drivers crashed a colleagues cars. Turns out he didn't even have a drivers licesnse. Last summer, the valets stole a bluetooth headset and a handfull of change from my car. Can you imagine being so petty as to steal ALL of the coins from a cars ashtray?

On the plus side, Jame the night manager may be the best *wood employee I've ever met.

Don't know about the free limo, but javabean is right, it's really a SHORT walk, especially to Caesar. It's practically right down Michigan.

Stayed there just a few days ago. Club floor still renovated. Got a regular room with nice view of boardwalk/casino side. Not too bad, esp. given the room rate (though boardwalk area casino hotels are charging even less in the off-season).

Also agreed with javabean, Tun Tavern is really bad. Horrible, in fact.

We did self-park, which is across at the convention center. Not the most convenient setup, but okay.

Service is pretty bad at this hotel. Front desk people (dealt with two different ones) are not particularly friendly or welcoming, and the way they spoke with you (or me, anyway, maybe it's because my name is choptliva) is like they are doing you a favor by even acknowledging your presence. Hey, the place was practically empty (my stay was Sun through Tues). I don't think they had more than 20 rooms occupied.

Not a good experience at all.

I was there on a Saturday night in June and the Limo was there. We took it to Caesars. It's fun to do. Free soft drinks and little bags of pretzels. We tipped the driver $5, but other than that, it was free. It was great because it was nice and comfortable for our group of 4. I think the return trip from Caesars was only until midnight.

I think it is only available on the weekends, because I stayed there on a Tuesday in October and it wasn't running.
