Sheraton Atlantic City [Master Thread]

I have very good luck this year in terms of upgrade and this is the first Sheraton that I didn’t get upgrade for the year. Check in on Xmas eve. The hotel appeared to be empty (there is no casino in this hotel). The FD told me there was no upgrade available. I knew it was a lie since I checked the web earlier that morning and there were lots of smart/club rooms available. I didn’t want to argue as we only stay there for one night and it was Xmas eve, not a night to get upset with little thing. So I asked to be put in a room that face broadwalk and the casinos. I was told “Yes, it has been pre-blocked for you”. Needlessly to say, the room faces the convention center instead. Just want to vent a little.

That is very unfortunate One Pass.. I stayed here in November as a Gold and I was upgraded to the Club Level. They were completely empty that day (so empty that they didn't have any food facilities open).. but when I asked about a suite upgrade I was told that none were available. Anyways that was my experience with the Sheraton AC.

By the program rules, Golds are never entitled to suite upgrades. Some properties give you them anyway.

Sheraton Atlantic City recent experiences?

Sheraton AC Convention Center is a lovely property. I arrived on Saturday 3/2 and was put into a corner suite the likes of which I've never seen at a Sheraton; though in fairness my Starwood experiences have been more Westin and LC than Sheraton.

The desk agent said that he "blocks" 3 or 4 suites for "his Platinums" on his weekend shifts and noticed my impending arrival. It was REALLY nice to hear that.

The bathroom in this room was bigger than some whole hotel rooms I've had; complete with Jacuzzi tub and a huge glassed-in shower. Enormous living room, dining area, big work area, powder room, and a good-size bedroom. Had views in both directions, though the weather was so bad it didn't really matter.
There was a huge convention checking out when I was leaving. But, the hotel actually had a SPG check-in/out line....something I don't see very often anymore. I zipped right through.
I am continually impressed by Starwood properties' very upfront and demonstrative recognition of Platinum level members.

Mr Fish and I were given this same suite on a Free Friday last fall, and it was wonderful (especially on our first night away without the kids in a long time).. I agree; Kudos to this property for everything! The front desk staff was exceptionally gracious and friendly!

Glad you have a great stay at Sheraton AC. I was not upgrade at all at my last stay.

Lurker was nice enough to file a complain for me to the hotel. I got a reply from the hotel saying that evening they were having the carpets shampooed on the club floors. No mention why no upgrades to suite, maybe all suites are located on the club floors? Also, she claim not giving me the Boardwalk view simply been a misunderstanding on the part of the Agent.

My bad experience with Sheraton AC goes back many years ago. During the time of SCI, elites get suite upgrade coupon every once a while (or from elite kit, don't remember). The coupon printed all the participating hotels on the back and Sheraton AC was one of them. When I tried to use the coupon, the FD dare to tell me there was NO SUITE in this hotel, not unavailable but none, nil, zero. The FD claimed the coupon was a misprint with Sheraton AC on it. Of course, I didn’t know all the tricks at the time and took the FD’s word for it.

With no casino at the property and lack of platinum benefit, I have no desire to go back there again. Well…it’s the only *wood so maybe I’ll give it another shot

Is the Sheraton in Atlantic City close enough to the beach to walk? I am thinking of booking a weekend there.

Vulcan Jul 12, 2002 11:39 am

Its a looong walk, but doable. You would probably not want to do it more than once a day.

UVA_WAHOO Jul 12, 2002 12:24 pm

It's probably only a $5-$7 taxi ride (including tip) to the beach. On the way back, you can easily grab a taxi at any of the hotel/ casinos on the boardwalk. Good luck!

We have spent several nights this summer at this hotel. All of our stays have been terrific and we plan to go back soon. We did walk to the boardwalk at night, but drove to the beach each day. We prefer the beaches south of the hotel area. There is a jitney (small bus) that picks up at the convention center directly across from the hotel. It costs approx. $1.50 each way. Ceasars Casino provides free limo service from the hotel to the casino.
Let me know if you need any other info regarding the hotel or the Atlantic City area.

the max rate of taxi in town used to be $6. they raised it so now its $8. And trust me it hits the $8 FAST!.. And while its 4 LONG blocks to the beach, it's not the good side,(Clairidge), the Taj Mahal is the good side and its another 4 LONG BLOCKS on the boardwalk so its a good 2 miles /35 min walk or $8..

Keep in mind walking during day in AC is safe, at nite unless in a big group not suggested from Sheraton to hotels. Only on boardwalk path...

I stayed there last weekend, here are my comments:

We arrived around 9PM, minimal check-in line. They had already assigned me a room and keyed the keys. I asked about an upgrade, but was told the hotel was oversold.

Our room was on the 14th floor (out of 16) with a view of the boardwalk and ocean. Pretty standard room for a Sheraton, standard size, standard amenities. They're a little too big into the Miss America thing; our room had some old photos from the pagent that didn't really match well with the modern art in the rest of the room. The lobby has tons of Miss America stuff too.

We requested the fruit basket as our amentity on the card at the front desk; room service called up a few minutes after we arrived and asked what we wanted as our amenity; I told him the fruit basket. That turned out to be really nice with a lot of very fresh fruit, tin of candies and jar of pears.

The hotel runs a free limo to Caesars which is really convienient. Of course, you do have to tip the driver, but it's still a lot cheaper than a cab, and more pleasant. The walk isn't bad either; we did that about a third of the time.

Breakfast in the club lounge was nice, though I would have liked some whole fruit for the road. We missed it the first morning because we were told it operated until 9:30, when it actually ran to 11:30 on the weekends.

The food spread in the evening may have been nice, but it was completely gone within an hour of it's two hour operation. They should really have replenished it.

I asked for a late checkout at the front desk during the day Saturday (Friday - Sunday stay), the agent said they had a DJ convention and couldn't accomodate us. Just as I was about to speak up, he said, "Are you a platinum member?" I said "yes" and he said "I'll put that in for you." And that was the end of that.

Overall it's a pretty good hotel. Unless I were certain to be comped at one of the casinos, I'd stay at the Sheraton as my first choice in AC. Or if I planed to be on the beach, I'd probably want to stay right on the boardwalk.

I know there have been some posts on this already, but I have stayed at the Sheraton in AC and will be there again this weekend. Last time was New Year's Eve. Things were very well run and organized for a busy night. The free limo to the casinos is a big plus. This weekend will be my first time as Platinum, so maybe someone else can speak better to their recognition of elite there. Have fun!

Sheraton Atlantic City recent experiences?

I'm thinking about spending a night at the Sheraton Atlantic City and I have a couple of questions:

1. What upgrades, if any, could be expected for Gold members?

2. I just called and asked the hotel how much they charge for parking and was told $8 for self parking and $12 for valet parking. I thought Atlantic City had a fixed parking rate of $2 per day. Does that only apply to casino hotels?

3. How far a walk is it from the Sheraton to the Boardwalk?

Thanks for any insights.

yojimbo Jul 4, 2003 9:32 am

Have stayed at Sheraton AC twice.

5-10 minute walk to boardwalk and casino hotels. As you've discovered, parking is expensive at Sheraton, but you can park for very little $$ at casinos, if you're willing to walk 5 minutes to your car.
