I'm staying the week after Easter, and hope I made the right choice. I'm Lifetime Plat and booked a King Grand Deluxe room. I put in my notes that I'd appreciate a suite upgrade if available. I loved the Luxury Collection hotels in Greece ( Hotel Grande Bretagne and Blue Palace Resort) and Amsterdam (Hotel Pulitzer) so I'm hoping this will be similar. A friend mentioned that I'd have a better chance for upgrade at Westin. I'm looking for a SD hotel for the many trips I'll be making in the next two years. I'm not worried about the view but I sure love having the space of a suite. I guess I'll know in a few weeks. Can anyone tell me if they have an airport shuttle or the best way to get there from the airport? I've scoured their website but oddly, see no mention of this. Thanks!

If they have the availability they will. They have a variety of suites!

You have a few choices to get to the property. Have you looked at Google? The airport transportation section?

I have a couple for buddy's who prefer this property and say the staff do try very hard to accommodate elites.

Taxis from SAN to downtown are cheap.

I suspect that SuperShuttle is also available.

Agree.

The link William provided shows an average fare of $12 plus tip.

Uber. 10 minutes ride. Don't take a taxi, it's 3x the price.

The location is gritty. It's not what you expect when you think of San Diego.

"Gritty"? What is your definition of "gritty"?

Walk out of the Grant and turn left on Broadway.

I was just talking yesterday with a friend who now lives in SD, and we agreed the area around C and 6th/7th (3 blocks from the Grant) reminds us of the Tenderloin in SF.

You didn't answer my question. IMO that area of San Fran isn't gritty. Neither of these area's is gritty.

I suppose I remember the days (back in the 1970s and 1980s) when this area really was gritty, but I don't consider it to be very different than any other downtown area in a major city now.

My husband and I walk back and forth from the Grant to the opera and the theater, and we've never felt unsafe.

I agree that it's a more urban vibe than La Jolla (where we live) or the other Northern Beach communities. But the area where the Grant is is not considered a rough part of town. They just spent a lot of money upgrading Horton Plaza shopping center and in addition to the Grant Grill there are nice restaurants in the area.

Didn't say it's unsafe. I think "gritty" is a good term. Lots of street people, including people sleeping on the sidewalk and/or talking to themselves. You could buy a wide variety of street drugs if so inclined.

btw, I live and work in Oakland, so I certainly know both gritty and unsafe.
