I am there October 31st onwards so won't be able to help you, May be you could tell me :-)
The menu shows a number of vegetarian options but limited on Vegan and that's the reason I haven't booked the flight yet, the hotel is booked on points.

I received an email from Mr. Mohamed Haroon (Resort manager) two days before my stay and I replayed him with my preference to be upgraded to a beach villa, since I don’t like to stay in an overwater. Very kind and generous to upgrade us to the best kind of 1 bedroom beach villa

we met also Mr. Nilesh Singh, the general manager, he came tonight at dinner also to greet us and talk a little

they are both very nice guys

I believe they do more than an extra mile for the Marriott elite members, I really feel welcome and appreciated

The service from all the people here from staff is very good.

the resort itself is very nice and new. And super clean everywhere in every part. I can’t say luxurious, it’s minimalist style and elegant. Room is very comfortable and housekeeping service is perfectly managed 2 times per day.

for any request you can get in touch with the reception by WhatsApp and they are quick and accurate.

we choose the half board and both the dinners had at Velaa and Turquoise were fantastic. Large portions and very good quality food.

in this season the best side of the island is (unfortunately) the south one, where only some 2 bedrooms villas and the lagoon villas are located.

the sea in the north side (and also the sea where the overwater are open yet) in this season is more rough and there is more wind also. But not a big problem

actually the best beach / sea where to relax is the south one facing the houses where the employees stay

riviera pool area is amazing, very quiet and facing a very nice sea. Also the main pool is very nice but too windy area for me.

I’m sure coming in the best season it must be wonderful, as the whole north part of the island.

I’m actually very happy with my choose of this resort. It absolutely values the amount of points payed.

The prices for extra F&B are correct for this kind of resort, nothing is overpriced

here some photos:
Thanks for the photos, even though I tried not look a them, still got a glimpse :-)
Is there a reason you changed the room, I got an above water villa because that's all I keep reading, if staying in Maldives stay on an above water one, even though my wife is not crazy about it after convincing.
Was the other room bigger, better and how did you find the food? Can't seem to connect to their Whatsapp, would you the number?

My booking on points is showing USD for transfer and resort fee. Do I have an option of making the payment in CAD as I don['t want to pay the FX fees?

Does anyone else have their transfer fees showing twice. Mine is listed at $840 and also shows the new rate of $960 in the total bill.

If they did offer CAD via DCC on a Visa/MC, there will still be a baked in fee with the rate you are offered. As a former Canadian, I offer you my condolences.

You're going to have to pay a bunch of USD for your meals and whatnot anyway. You might want to try to settle with Marriott GCs bought in CAD, as the givex rate is very good. But in Maldives it's hit or miss on using GCs to cover the seaplane cost.

I believe the rooms have all the same size, just with or without pool (in the back or in front). Probably the open bathroom is bigger in the beach villas, looking from outside it seems to be bigger

I'm sure there are credit cards you can get that have no FX fees, ask you should look into that. As a US citizen I don't have an issue in the Maldives but do in many other countries so I always make sure to have at least 1 card with no fx fees in my wallet (in the US there is Amex Plat, Cap1, Sapphire reserve, etc).

There are basically zero credit cards in Canada that have no FX fees, sadly. Nearly every card in the US, but I can't recall a single Canadian once since the Chase Marriott card got shut down years ago.

Wow, what a shame, I would not expect that to be the case in CA. Makes Canada sound like a third world country in the cc universe .

On the other hand, Canada has had chip and tap for ages and the US is barely getting around to it. We have the technological advantage, just not the benefits. Anyway, that's off-topic.

Thanks for all the quick replies and help guys. Just booked the flights from Delhi after the resort ensured us there will be enough food for Vegans, the chef "will curate special vegan menu for my wife" :-)

Plan to do most activities at the resort it self as venturing out to other islands may be expensive. Flight back to Delhi is at 3 pm. If we get to Male, the earliest seaplane transfer would allow us, what can one do in Male for a few hours?

First trip out of Canada since Covid started, so the past couple of years have allowed us to bank points.
220000 Aeroplan points for return trip to India with $244 in taxes.
204000 Marriot points for Le Meridien stay with around $1200 USD in resort fees and transfer. The flight from Delhi (paid 50% with my TD Points) is cheaper than the sea plane transfer.
Have to set aside $1000 for dining and as much for activities I assume?

A better statement would be "There are no desirable credit cards in Canada that have no forex fees".

But there is a list here.
