FAQ from Jan 19/22 email from Marriott:

Can I Still Order Travel Package Awards?

Information on Marriott Bonvoy® Travel Packages
No. Due to varying factors such as low volume in demand, we are no longer selling Travel Package Awards as of January 19, 2022.

Q: What happens to the Travel Package Award I already have in my Account?

If you have a Travel Package Award attached to an existing Reservation, rest assured, we will be honoring your stay and no additional action is required.

Please Note:
The airline miles portion of the Travel Package Award was deposited to you at the time of purchase of the Travel Package Award and, therefore, will not be refunded.

Q: What happens if I need to modify or cancel my Travel Package Award redemption Reservation after March 2, 2022?

If you modify or cancel a Redemption Reservation that has a Travel Package Award attached to it after March 2, 2022, you must contact Member Support to cancel the Travel Package Award, after which you will receive a full Marriott Bonvoy® Point refund for the Hotel portion of the Award. Please visit https://www.marriott.com/help/loyalt...mer-support.mi to find the appropriate Member Support phone number based on your geographic location.

Q: How many Points will I be refunded?

Members will receive a full Marriott Bonvoy® Points refund for the Hotel portion of the Travel Package Award. The refund will be based on the current Points redemption category levels and will equal the sum of the Peak Points Redemption Rate per each Night of the Travel Package Award, at the highest category for which the Award was eligible. The airline miles portion of the Travel Package Award was deposited to you at the time of purchase of the Travel Package Award and, therefore, will not be refunded.

^Cancelled a res. online, TP has not been automatically returned. I did see up thread suggested that those TP’s that were manually attached with effort or issue (which this was) may need to be manually detached.

Or perhaps I would have had better lucky with the room type change trick, turning the res. into a points advance rate and realising the cert? Can try that next time!

I put aside an hour today and prepared for the worst. Called the platinum line and asked them to detach the certificate from my June trip but don't cancel the reservation. She said she did it and then I refreshed my account and it wasn't there. She put me on hold and it turned out that the system deleted the certificate when she detached it so she had to create a new one. Bonus is that it extended to a year from today. My week was in June in the outer banks and I doubt it's happening so didn't want to leave it to last minute.

So if you call make sure it's back in your account first to save you some headaches! Start to finish it was 13 minutes.

Sorry to hear the system can still delete certificates upon cancellation, this happened to me about a year ago. At least they saw this was the case and was quickly reissued. In my case, there was no initial trace of a TP having ever been attached.

I wonder if you had asked them to change the reservation room type / rate to points advance, if that would have auto released the cert. vs asking them to simply detach it? (If that makes sense)

Check in on expiration date?

I canceled my res and was pleasantly surprised to see the travel certificate immediately returned to my account. Now I just have to make sure it doesn't disappear (which has happened before!)

Just now, I spoke with a Marriott agent, who claimed that my check-out date needs to happen before the certificate expiration date. But I recall that you just need to redeem the certificate before checking in, so you can check in on the expiration date. Is this still the case, and if so, do you need to make sure the hotel follows through with redeeming your cert immediately after checking in?

I called in to see if they'd extend it for me, my certificate still has an expiration date in early summer. No dice - they say they're not supposed to because the system is going to update everyone's automatically. I guess we'll see. I would have liked to make a reservation now, in case end of year travel gets busy.

If my cert isn't updated by April 30, I expect I'll be calling back in.

You can make a points or points advance reservation now, and attach the certificate later. TP certs are not impacted by peak or off-peak pricing.

Looks like the auto update has happened, for me anyway. All my certificates that were expiring in the next 2-3 months have new expiration dates of January 31,2021. These were OCs converted into NCs.

My 2 TPs got extended as well, though not quite what I was expecting. Have to wonder how things like these happen.

Is 01/20/2021 the original expiry? I think they are just extending for vouchers that expire this year.

No. I don't remember the exact date, but it was due to expire in 2020 sometime.

All my carts have been extended to expire at the end of January in 2021. Not sure it does me a lot of good.

Yeah. 3 certs were at late Dec 2020, now 1/31/2021... worthless extension.
