Room booked: Guest Room, 1 King (standard room category)
Room received: Bi-Level Loft, 1 King, Bedroom is a loft.
Elite Level: Titanium
Award stay: Yes
Rate Type: Points, 2 nights standard, Category 3
LNF stay: No
SNAs redeemed: No
Comments: Booked a standard guest room, 1 king at 9:30 pm the night before arrival. The following morning I was upgraded in the APP to the Bi-Level Loft suite, 1.5 bathrooms. No OLCI or messaging in the APP available. 2:00 PM check-in. Arrived about 1:45 pm. Friendly & efficient check-in, thanked me for being an "X4" Offered points or breakfast buffet in the restaurant for Welcome Amenity. Shortly after check-in there was a knock at the door. A bottle of Merlot & a box of chocolates was delivered with a note from the GM.

The in-room dining menu is a subset of the restaurant menu. Pricing is identical and no surcharges. Good food, large portions. Impressed so far.

Comments: Happy to get the suite, but after three stays this year, starting to see some patterns. They don't upgrade in advance unless you use an SNA, regardless how wide open the suite inventory. And the pool of complimentary upgrades is limited to the least desirable suites. I was first offered an accessible suite, right next to the lobby and elevators, overlooking valet parking, but turned it down. After typing away for a while, the very nice FDA offered me a 1st floor golf course view suite. As I walked down the hall, I realized they gave me the exact same suite they gave me last time. It's right next to a service door, which slams loudly throughout the day as housekeeping goes in and out (slamming doors are definitely an issue here). There was wide open availability in the more desirable pool view and Camelback view suites, but those are apparently not in the normal upgrade pool. Still a lovely property with an extremely friendly and helpful staff.

Fortunate enough to bat 1.000 on my 5 SNA's this year.

Property: JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach
Date(s): April, 4 weeknights
Room booked: Deluxe King
Room received: Premier Suite
Elite Level: Titanium
Award stay: Points
Rate Type: Standard
LNF stay: No
SNAs redeemed: Yes
Comments: Our time in Singapore was booked specifically to avoid peak days and improve upgrade chances. Original SNA room granted was the Premier Marina Bay Suite, then changed the day before arrival to Premier Suite (view of Raffles Hotel). Our family still enjoyed the room very much.

Property: San Francisco Marriott Marquis
Date(s): November, 1 night
Room booked: King, Low Floor
Room received: Three Bay Hospitality Suite, King, City View
Elite Level: Titanium
Award stay: No
Rate Type: Standard
LNF stay: No
SNAs redeemed: Yes
Comments: Pre-upgraded by hotel one week in advance to the 2 Bay Hospitality Suite, No View. 3 days before arrival, SNA request went through with the 3 Bay suite.

Property: Residence Inn New York Downtown Manhattan/World Trade Center Area
Date(s): 11/30/19-12/1/19
Room booked: Two Queen Bed Studio
Room received: Maiden Manhattan Studio (separate sitting area), High Floor
Elite Level: (Platinum, Titanium, Ambassador) Lifetime Titanium
Award stay: (yes/no) Yes (Chase Annual Free Night)
Rate Type: (Off Peak/Standard/Peak) N/A
LNF stay: (yes/no) No
SNAs redeemed: (yes/no) Yes
Comments: SNA cleared 5 days out. Hotel is approx. 5 years old and the room is showing some wear (especially the couch); however, it was still quite comfortable and serviceable. Maiden Manhattan Studio is 569 Sq. Ft. which is huge by NY standards. Easy access to Fulton Center Subway station less than one block away. Great base for downtown activities (Statue of Liberty, WTC Memorial, Stock Exchange, etc.). We visited The Tenement Museum and The Essex Market for lunch. Had also planned on going to the Eldridge Museum and to go Wo Hop in Chinatown (a family favorite); however, due to crappy weather (freezing rain), we left early. In any case this is a great choice for families visiting NYC. With the easy subway access, you can get anywhere in the city easily. Area is much quieter than Times Square (a plus in my mind), but still not dead in the evening even though it is in the heart of the financial district.

Comments: Upgrade to Oceanfront queen room a week before stay. SNA cleared about 3 days before the stay. Room on 8th floor overlooking the beach and facing south. Room appeared to be freshly remodeled. There was construction above me and I could tell at least rooms on the lounge level 18 had not been remodeled yet. 1 bathroom double sinks with bath tub. Other bathroom shower and single sink but shower door did not close. Large LG televisions in each room that were the clearest tvs I have watched. People have complained about not being able to take items out of the lounge and I did not find a problem to take drinks or fruit or deserts out of the lounge.

I've had a great year of upgrades to high level rooms and suites.

February:
The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho: 7 night upgrade from standard room to grand deluxe corner king (basically a jr suite), then again on a 1 night stay.
Suiran Kyoto: 2 night upgrade from standard room to deluxe room, and then to shirosumire special room.

April:
Delta Hotel Guelph: 1 night upgrade from standard room to luxury suite
The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto: 5 night upgrade from standard room to grand deluxe river room (I was still a platinum ineligible for suites even if one was open)

May:
Fairfield Inn Guelph: 3 night upgrade from standard room to suite
Marriott Paris Rive Gauche: 3 night upgrade to some suite I can't remember but it had two full baths so it was pretty big

June:
The St. Regis Bangkok: 2 night upgrade from standard to grand deluxe room (purposely asked for this vs standard suite)
Le Meridien Bangkok Suvarnabhumi: 1 night upgrade from standard room to suite
The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho: 4 night upgrade months in advance from standard to grand deluxe corner
JW Marriott Singapore: 2 night upgrade from standard room to premier suite
The Athenee Bangkok: 2 night upgrade from standard room to royal club suite via SNAs
Doha Marriott Marquis: 3 night upgrade from standard room to jr suite on a Qatar stopover rate
Delta Hotel Guelph: 5 night upgrade from standard room to luxury suite

July:
AC Hotel Sunnyvale Cupertino: 2 night upgrade from standard room to suite

Oct:
Delta Hotel Toronto: 2 night upgrade from standard room to jr suite

Nov:
Courtyard Tokyo Station: 1 night upgrade from tiny cheapest room to some king room
Suiran Kyoto: 2 night upgrade from standard room to Garden Terrace Suite (Rate at that time of the year is about $4000 a night)

Dec:
The Westin Dublin: 4 night upgrade from standard room to jr suite

As a percentage of my nights this year, my upgrade rate is roughly 75%. If you take out stays at properties that can not upgrade, like some of the limited services I've stayed at where it's all the same room, it's closer to 90%. I personally think people who don't get any upgrades are staying at the wrong properties. If your travel is mostly NA that's kind of par for the course.

Nespresso maker in room far exceeds the normal coffee

Comments: This is a fantastic hotel and I highly recommend it. The front desk was kind enough to let me know that my upgraded room does not have a balcony. I politely replied I would be happy with the upgraded room and thanked her.
