Was charged for both rooms. Didn’t think they would let me keep the 2-bedroom Suite if I had canceled one of the rooms.

Property: Sheraton Grand Macau
Date(s): Saturday 17 August
Room booked: Deluxe King
Room received: Club Suite
Elite Level: Titanium
Award stay: Yes - 75-night Cat 5 certificate
Rate Type: N/A
LNF stay: N/A
SNAs redeemed: No (applied for on the app and rejected the day before)
Comments: It's becoming increasingly difficult to get any kind of upgrade on a Saturday night at this 4000-room hotel. Two years ago Plats or higher were regularly upgraded at weekends to huge Executive Deluxe Suites but that's no longer my experience if you stay on a Saturday. Having received the basic room (which is really basic) at stays earlier this year I reached out in advance to the people who know us in the lounge and on the day of check in we got a Club Suite which is like a regular hotel suite with separate sitting room and additional toilet in the entrance. The cash rate this Saturday was an insane MOP3000 so I used my Cat 5 certificate which was good value except when you remember that (a) at other times the cash rate can be MOP900 and (b) it's inexplicably the same category as the JW Macau whose basic rooms and lounge will be a notch or two above the Sheraton (but no availability this weekend). Increasingly, I'm sorry to say that the Sheraton is very poor value for cash or points at the weekend and the increased focus on mainland tastes and cheaper foods in the lounge (which I've previously enjoyed) is also pushing me away. Unfortunately I cannot stay mid-week in the off season to see if I get a proper suite like the old days. This hotel was once a reliable weekend staycation for me... but I'm losing interest with each stay despite excellent lounge staff.

A two-bedroom suite would cost more than two separate rooms at most hotels wouldn't it? I don't feel that the OP was ripped off.

Was wondering how it worked out. Thanks. I'm assuming the two bedroom was more expensive than two separate rooms in the first place or did you not notice?

You're making assumptions here. My post had no implication.

My experience has been business as usual and hotel just follow the policy, no more and no less. Lower tiers don’t get any more to offer. The strong brands, like RC and Luxury, don’t offer anything.

I must beg to differ. I think there are plenty of examples here for all to see for those with especially Titanium and especially Ambassador status getting plenty at the "strong brands" as you describe them. (And even Plats are sharing plenty examples of major suite upgrades in this thread.)

For the record, the following list doesn't even include my suite upgrades in Feb at the RC Coconut Grove or the StR Bahia Beach.

It wasn't a big deal and we ended up preferring getting rooms near one another rather than the original room type.

Comments: This was a return stay, I've stayed a few times before. Was in contact with the concierge team about my request for a suite. I was upgraded to a cool corner room weeks out. At check in (12 PM) I was told my cool corner room wasn't available, I reiterated I was really interested in the suite. He said he could do that but it would be a few hours before the room is ready because of occupying elites. I said no problem, was given a standard room for a few hours and moved over about 2 hours later. This property clearly doesn't dole out suites, but have come through the few times I've really wanted one (traveling with family).
Things must be getting bad in Hong Kong if the W is giving out genuine upgrades!

Having read through the W HK thread, this seems very true, BUT! I was also upgraded last year as well, but it was like pulling teeth from them, and only for half of my stay. When they clearly had availability online. The more I stay there, the more I really enjoy the food at the Elements mall next door. It has some fantastic dining options!

Comments: Probably one of the worst hotels that play with inventory to avoid giving out suite upgrades (suites available just prior to check in, key strokes after mentioning I'd like a suite upgrade and then no suites during check in, and magically after check in those suites are for sale again). Agents flat out lie and manipulate inventory. I was told there was no inventory when online there was clearly bookable inventory in almost every higher category (I essentially had to book it to show them). I was eventually given a suite with one window (in the living room) that faces an alley. That's right, no window in the bedroom. I don't even think that room should be allowed to be occupied it was so ridiculous. After a stern discussion with management was given a proper suite the next day. I'll avoid this place going forward.
