Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.
When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).
The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

(Also, never use the word UPGRADE. You must say you want to CONVERT your certs.)
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.
Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

New data point for the new year.
I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen
Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.
1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.

Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:
The new award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

Marriott Travel Package issue - Never received airline miles
I purchased a Tier 1-3 package and then converted it to a Category 9 package the night of the merger, thankfully. I booked a 7 night stay at Scrub Island in BVI with the certificate pre-merger, (when it was 45k/night vs 60k/night now). As a reminder a Cat 9 TP was 390k. I chose Alaska Air as my miles and expected to receive 120k miles. About 5 weeks later my miles still haven't showed and i inquired about this (I luckily have been corresponding with a Marriott rep directly over email) and he said that due to the conversion, something happened and the miles were never sent. They rep said they redeposited 225k Marriott points back into my account and gave me the general link to where i can use Marriott points to 'buy' airline miles at the standard 3:1 ratio. On the face of this, my net cost of the 7 night stay will be only 165k Marriott points - an amazing deal on itself, but I'm giving up all those Alaska miles. Has anyone else experienced this and what should I do?
I already asked the rep to give me an additional 75k Marriott points, the logic being 300k Marriott points will allow me to get my 120k Alaska miles. This of course is way better, as it allows me the flexibility to get whatever other miles I might need instead of lock me in to Alaska.

I have an OC8 and converting to NC5 doesn't make sense for me as all hotels we are interested in are Cat 6 or 7.
1: Is it possible to upgrade from OC8 to NC6 or NC7?
2: If no to the above am I better off just asking for a full refund for the OC8? If so how many points would that be worth and is it really a bad deal?
Sorry if this has been answered but I went through the forms and couldn't get confirmation.

I am wondering when Marriott is going to do a sweep and downgrade all those New Certificates that were upgraded against the new T&C's?
Just another speculative twist to the saga.

DP: I emailed about the ability to extend travel package certificates August 20th (The day one of the Lurkers said the TP blackout was over) and received a response today confirming they could be extended.

Marriott is in serious damage control mode right now. And not just on TPs. They have massive IT issues to deal with. The last thing they need is to create another issue for their IT staff to worry about.

OK so just spent another 1.5h on the phone this evening (UK number) - first rep then supervisor. After initial wait they were asking for my airline details and I think they had the wrong end of the stick and were trying to book another TP! Re-emphasised what I was trying to do (book a Westin property) and eventually they said not possible yet. I escalated to the supervisor and explained that I had been told on Sunday to call back today specifically. They were sympathetic and agreed there were major IT issues. They gave me 7k points as an initial apology (up from 5k initially but he said that was as high as he could go) and as well as contacting a colleague in the US he has also promised to try and sort the non-posting of the SPG Amex points. I did suggest they add the require points, make a 7-night booking and then cancel the cert but he said they system wouldn't let them do that (was worth a go!!). Promised another update by Monday, we will see.
PS also interesting that website still showing no change (even after logging out/back in) but app showing 7k Omaha Reservation Center Bonus, however total points still hasn't increased.

genuinely can't believe I've been on hold with the Uk # for almost 2 hours...my first call was dropped where a rep cancelled my cert (then the call dropped) and he sent me an email saying the cert was cancelled and the new cat 5 cert cost 105,000 ... but there's no way to reply to the address, it gets bounced. What a mess

We should have known by now that we have not had a single constructive post from the poster long before the merger.
On top of that, none of the adamantly proclaimed post merger handling of attached / unattached TP certs has ever come true. Quite the opposite happened.
Now it is time to come out for some BS post to stir-up things again? Let's not fall for that

Dont waste your time on the attempt to use the TP cert on SPG properties. You will know it is working WHEN and IF, you can book SPG reward nights on Marriott side, WITHOUT being redirected to the SPG booking engine to do it. That is a signal of all SPG properties are migrated to Marriott booking platform, and come with it, the ability to attach the TP cert. Until that point has reached, it is not worth the time invested trying to book SPG property with the TP cert. Pure waste of time for both you and them. Though good for you to get back some courtesy pts, but it is not worth the hassle, just my opinion.
I do hope you will get your AMEX earned SPG pts posted to your account soon. For the US-issued SPG cards, recent DPs suggested AMEX US can automatically map to the new SPG number even for those who have combined accounts and keep their Marriott accounts. We are refrained to use our SPG biz cards until most glitches have been finally fixed. But I can see for some it is not possible when they have pay stays in coming weeks and the AMEX SPG cards are their only cards to earn the X bonus.

The total should change, i.e. incl the 7K Omaha bonus in it., esp you even see the line. You sure the number of your previous balance?

Now I've got the Points Advance Marriott booking in the bag I'm much less concerned - this time last week the Marriott property had no availability so was totally reliant on SPG properties. However partly as the Westin looks a nicer property and partly to just build my complaint case I'll see what they come up with.
I've got about 12k points from Amex that were due on the monthly sweep on 29/8 - the previous ones came through fine on 29/7 and 29/6 and Amex say they've definitely sent them so will see what happens.
