Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.
When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).
The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

(Also, never use the word UPGRADE. You must say you want to CONVERT your certs.)
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.
Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

New data point for the new year.
I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen
Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.
1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.

Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:
The new award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

I asked for upgrade, the agent immediately said that requires 30k. Then I asked her to downgrade my OC6 to get 30k points.

Thanks for the clarification, that is reassuring. I converted an OC5 to a NC4 last week on the UK line and my NC4 reservation shows those two sentences along with the 45,000 points plus taxes. I thought the 45K might be the surrender value like you mentioned.
I received a confirmation email when the OC5 certificate was cancelled however I never received a confirmation email for the NC4 certificate that was ordered. I called back in and the agent actually gave me the NC4 certificate number. I asked about the expiry date and he wasn't able to access that.

Time will tell how the NCs would behave going forward.
I am glad to see most everyone who took initiatives has had satisfactory outcome so far.

It's the 18th - "WE CAN'T SEE SPG"
So it's the 18th - programs STILL not combined - can't book spg hotels with TP b/c "we can't see spg reservations", we need to connect you with SPG .... NOT GOING DOWN THAT ROAD!
Got an email telling me I'm not eligible for LTPP b/c don't have 75 nights! (despite meeting the announced LTP spg + 750 nights),
Elite services agent refused to send me to elite services supervisor - and had NO idea about old vs new TP certs AND
I HAD TO LISTEN TO THE "IF YOU'RE CALLING ABOUT THE NEW..........."
rant over

Someone posted upthread a week or so before Aug 18th rolled around, claiming while early birds may get the worms but the late riser would get the cheese.
Now let's hope there is indeed some cheese waiting...
The inability to book SPG property on Marriott site is totally inept when Marriott kept telling us Now We Are All One...
From talking to the SPG reps the old timers are just as frustrated as we are because they have never encountered such unfriendly working conditions in that the system does not work, no communication channel and have extraordinary number of very upset customers.
All Marriott is telling those who suffer, is being patient... They should never initiate the merger in Mid Year when nothing is ready.

September 18th was the day changes are officially allowed for travel packages. Has anyone had any luck at the North American call centers today with changing old certificates to new ones?

I had a boring OC5 attached to a NC4. Wanted to detach, convert to NC4, then attach to a different NC4 hotel for same dates. Seemed fairly straightforward as far as travel packages go. After an hour on hold, agent took roughly 20 minutes including hold time to process and told me everything above had been completed. It is now a couple hours later, I logged in and can see that the OC5 cert is detached from the initial reservation however I don't see a cert attached to the new reservation. Should that have happened immediately or should I give it some more time to see if it shows up? Just wondering if I should get back on the phone now or wait?

When I attached my newly converted NC4 I could immediately see the reservation has an e-certificate. That was while on the phone, as I wanted to make sure before letting the amazingly nice rep go. The cancel and reorder shows up in Activity a few days later, though. Did you attach it to a separate point advance reservation? Or did you just ask the rep to change the old one?

Then it's definitely different from what I experienced about five days ago. But it could be that their system is changing and reservations are not updated in time, since today was supposed to be the big day.

When you move a cert to another reservation, the procedure seems to be
1) detach the cert.
2) if it is an OC, it needs to be converted to a NC before it can be used again.
3) attach the NC to the new reservation.
Each step should generate a confirmation email.
1) and 2) related to the cert movements.
3) related to the reservation now has an eCert attached.
All should be done on the same phone call that should not take more than 10 to 15 min if that much, even by competent US based reps. And yes, they should happen when you were still on the phone with the rep,
If by tomorrow you still see the cert being available and the new reservation still has not had a new cert attached, then the rep has not finished the job.
I dont believe today has any difference because the system has been allowing the bookings for well over 10 days by now. Look back on what were posted on this thread, many have gone thru the conversion whether from a stand alone OC, or from an attached OC. So the ability to do the jobs have been in the system long before today - it is more a matter of having a competent rep to do the job than anything else.
