Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.
When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).
The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

(Also, never use the word UPGRADE. You must say you want to CONVERT your certs.)
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.
Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

New data point for the new year.
I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen
Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.
1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.

Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:
The new award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

I had a Tier 4-5 package in my account. I have a St Regis Bora Bora paid refundable reservation for a reefside villa in my account too. I have spoken to multiple agents both SPG and Marriott. None of them are able to apply the certificate to the reservation. Any thoughts?

There is nothing in either account history to show the points transfer. It was an invisible transaction. But my SPG balance did drop immediately. She said she transferred the points first, then cancelled the old travel package, and then ordered the new one. So I think a helpful rep should be able to simply transfer points for you without any travel package needs.
At the end it turned out the call was picked up by a rep at San Antonio, TX. No go to move points, not even for paying an existing Point Advance reservation of Marriott property booked from Marriott site. The rep did go off to do some research but came back negative.
Should have called on Sunday. Sigh.

Called the 353 number this morning but the number changed to for reservation for UK press 1 and for reservation for outside UK press 2.

Partial redemption means this is for the hotel only (the full redemption has 2 components - airline miles and the hotel stay cert).
Because of the date change, the cert is canceled then is reordered.
The reservation SHOULD show an eCert has been ordered. i.e. it should not still ask you to order an eCert, or even allow you to order cert (at regular redemption rate as in the point cost of 6 nights with 1 night free).
You also should have received 2 confirmation emails - one related to the cancellation of the old cert, the other related to the reordering the new cert (with a new number).
Marriott system now seems only sends out confirmation email when the reward is paid for. If the reward does not have a cert attached (whether it is thru regular point redemption or thru travel package, it is all related to as eCert), then the system would not generate a confirmation email for the booking.
The reservation now with new dates, SHOULD also generate a reservation confirmation email AND on that it should show the total cost is 105K pts.
If you haven't receive such a confirmation email, call reservation to request one sent to you.
You would need this as a proof should the system fails somewhere.
What does the hotel reservation show online? Has or Has not, a eCert for the reservation?

unfortunately i dont have enough posts to be able to attach a screenshot, which would probably be much more helpful
here is what i see when i go to My Trips and click View/Modify on the new reservation:
This reservation has e-certificate(s).

What matters is these 2 sentences at the top of the reservation. So you are good.
This reservation has e-certificate(s).
Your Reward certificates will be sent to your hotel.
The charge always shows the surrender value of the cert, and not the sum of point cost per day x 6 (5th night free). It often throws people off on that. Ignore the per day cost.

Ignore what it is said about ordering eCert - it will be there even there is already an eCert attached.

No go. UK based rep went to check and came back said the ability was disabled now. She could not pull points to "pay" for a Marriott 5th night free booking that is currently on point advance. Looks like I would need to brave for the Combine Account process and hope for the best.

Just called 353 number this morning to downgrade OC6 to QP83 + 30k point refund, and use the 30k to upgrade OC8 to QP99. Whole process took about 5 minutes. Agent is super nice, I was having connection issue with my skype and eventually got disconnected, the agent called me back on my cellphone number on file in my account. Once we were able to speak with good cellphone reception the upgrade/downgrade took less than 5 minutes. This is really unexpected, as my previous experience with customer service here in the States was awful.

I received a confirmation email when the OC5 certificate was cancelled however I never received a confirmation email for the NC4 certificate that was ordered. I called back in and the agent actually gave me the NC4 certificate number. I asked about the expiry date and he wasn't able to access that.
September 18th was the day changes are officially allowed for travel packages. Has anyone had any luck at the North American call centers today with changing old certificates to new ones?
