April 2017 Photos - see posts 45-51

From website: In Executive Lounge no children below 12 years allowed after 7pm and smart casual attire is required-no shorts/slippers

As of 2023, shorts seem to have been removed from the lounge dress code exclusion. ElevatorEnthusiast definitely wore them.

Only the chicken quesadilla was manned by a chef (same corner as the egg station during breakfast) and it was rather underwhelming. The chef basically just warmed the tortilla with some smoked chicken, cheese, and tomato sauce in a pan for a few seconds. Some of the hot items like the baked eggplant and mini quiche were cold as well.

I read some very early reviews (when it was first rebranded to JW) that mentioned champagne was served in the lounge but I guess that may have been for a limited time only.

Already saw several comments here on how cold the 18th floor pool is but it was way colder than what I expected... almost unbearable and it didn't help that there was nothing shielding you from the wind as the entire floor is very open... if only they can look into heating the pool somehow...

I am gold and the welcome letter (addressed to gold specifically) states that breakfast is at the lounge only so I am guessing the restaurant option might only be for platinum members. Food offerings during evening happy hour weren't particularly appealing (mini quiche, deep fried mozzarella, har gow, chicken quesadilla, eggplant with tomato sauce) and weren't up to par with the marriott at tangs.
They had salad options when I stayed there previously. If they've disappeared that's too bad. When it first opened as a J.W. Marriott, the lounge had complimentary Singapore sling cocktails. I'm unsure if they still offer those.

I've stayed when it was both an independent hotel and a J.W. Marriott, owned both times by the same owner who also owns the J.W. Marriott in Hong Kong. It never succeeded as an independent hotel because of, in my opinion, the pools. It was basically a ghost town. One time I think I was the only guest in the whole hotel.

It's obviously busier now because of the Marriott affiliation but it remains one of the weakest J.W. Marriott hotels because of the pool situation. If they would only remove the cladding above the smaller pool it would at least be tolerable for a couple hours each day. They took some of it down, but not all of it.

If that's true then it definitely sounds like a downgrade since I was there in November.

I asked for one at the lounge bar when I was there and the server said that he was unable to make one because they were all out of fresh pineapple. I asked the next evening and got the same answer. After that, I didn't bother asking.

This is a business hotel and business travelers don't pick properties based on pools.

I'm not sure why this place struggles, but my issues with it were terrible wifi, weird furnishings, and a well-meaning but very unpolished staff. It did not leave a good overall impression with me and I won't return.

It wasn't originally a business hotel. It was built and originally opened as an upscale boutique hotel, not a business hotel. I'd argue that even today it isn't a business hotel, at least its decor. In fact, the furnishings are original to the hotel, except for some changes in the lobby. The chairs at the in-room desks as well as the chairs in the executive lounge are impractical.

It's also one of the few Marriott properties I've ever stayed at without enhanced wireless internet access.

Nor will I for those same reasons and many others. It took about 30 seconds in the room to decide that I am not a fan of Philippe Starck (the world famous designer). Totally weird and way too edgy for a JW. A metal uncushioned rocking chair for the desk--give me a break. Plus the lounge is thoroughly mismanaged and certainly not what one would expect from a Cat 8 hotel in SE Asia. I have passed it up on two return trips to Singapore.

To be fair, the decor was about a year old when the owners affiliated with Marriott under the J.W. Marriott flag. I agree they should have replaced the chairs.

My biggest complaint with the lounge were the families and children, particularly at night with alcohol being served. It's an an executive lounge, not a cafeteria for families. I've raised it on here before, but many defended this practice.

I've stayed at the Grand Hyatt, Marriott, and the J.W. Marriott (including just after it opened as the independent South Beach). I like the location of the J.W. for sightseeing, but the Marriott has a better pool. The Grand Hyatt was too dilapidated. I also didn't think their lounge was better, despite View from the Wing always praising it.

I had an excellent stay at the St. Regis recently, including a two category upgrade to a Caroline Astor suite. The property gets mixed reviews on FT, but I really enjoyed it.

For what it's worth, the overall management and sales staff are shared between the St. Regis and the J.W. Marriott. Each hotel is overseen by one managing director.

I ate here at the Japanese restaurant two weeks ago -- did not like it at all. No discounts for plats. Portion sizes were microscopic. I think I spent $90 USD or so and was still starving after I ordered a sushi roll, a chicken main (like 2 bite size), and a salad that was not a salad. I don't know how to describe what the salad was.

I think you are confusing the JW with the W. St. Regis and W are co-managed, not SR and JW.
