Good details in this post: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/30029755-post302.html
The Atlantis is made up of 4 towers that will participate for redemption stays. They are as follows:
Atlantis, Beach Tower - Do not participate in Marriott reward booking(?) (old Category 7)
Atlantis, Coral Towers - New Category 5 (35k) (old Category 8 (from March, 2018 https://www.marriott.com/marriott-rewards/use/category-update.mi)
Atlantis, Royal Towers - New Category 6 (50k) (old Category 8)
The Cove Atlantis - New Category 7 (60k) (old Category 9)
Apparently, you cannot redeem points for a stay at The Reef Atlantis, but you can earn points on a paid stay there.
Points are earned for room rate only. No points on incidental spend. Platinum Arrival Gift (PAG) is 500pts or food/drink amenity. $20 internet fee* is NOT waived for Gold/Plats per Marriott's T&Cs. For rooms that will have more than two people aged twelve or over, there is an "additional adult charge" per person. *For Royal, Coral, Beach Towers, internet is included as part of the daily resort fee of $50.
"For clarification purposes, the daily charge is not a resort fee. The additional charges associated with the stay currently include mandatory gratuities and a utility service fee per person per day. The amount can vary by unit type by building. These additional charges have always been in place at Atlantis."
ADDITIONAL CHARGES:
Guests of Atlantis, Harborside Resort, The Cove and The Reef Atlantis are subject to an 20% charge per night that includes taxes, the Paradise Island Tourism and Development Association levy, the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board levy and compensation for servicing your reservation. In addition, guests will be required to pay a mandatory gratuity and utility service fee of (i) up to $25.95 per person per day depending on unit type for Atlantis guests, (ii) up to $20.70 per person per day depending on unit type for Harborside Resort guests, and (iii) up to $65.95 per person per day depending on unit type for The Cove or The Reef Atlantis guests. If you purchase a pre-paid package these charges are already included in your package price. If you do not purchase a pre-paid package, these charges will be assessed upon check out at the property. Please be advised that all mandatory gratuities, taxes, levies and service fees are subject to change.
As of 01-Jan-2015, In addition to the previous 20% tax on room rate and purchases, there is an additional VAT of 7.5%, 12%* (as of July 1, 2018), making a total tax on room rate and purchases of 37.5%. This also applies to additional adult fees (for more than two person ages 12 and older staying in the same room), but does not apply to the mandatory gratuity and utility fees. https://thenassauguardian.com/2018/05/30/vat-hike-to-12-percent/

Also report if they reduced the resort fee for elites since internet should be free.
tail discount does not apply on "sale” or reduced price merchandise
One thing I wanted to mention about the mandatory gratuities is that they are divided up between multiple employees but I am not even sure if the entire amount goes to the service employees as opposed to management taking a chunk of the amount. For example in the restaurants the food is quite expensive and the gratuity is mandatory. My understanding is that the waitstaff is lucky to get $3-5 per table out of the hefty gratuity. They know they will get this regardless and won't get any more for outstanding service. I hear that the service is not very efficient or good.
In addition, guests of Atlantis, The Cove Atlantis and The Reef Atlantis (but not Harborside Resort) will be required to pay a resort fee of $45.00 plus a $3.38 VAT charge per room per night, totaling $48.38 per room per night. The resort fee will include the following services:
Wi-Fi in guest rooms and lobby areas for up four (4) devices
Access to the Fitness Center: Up to 2 persons per day per room
Fitness center access entitles guests to complimentary use of the cardio studio, universal and free weights only. Tennis, fitness classes and personal training sessions are not included.
Two (2) 12 oz. bottles of water daily per room.
Unlimited local phone calls
Access to the Atlantis Movie Theater
Resort Shuttle Service
In-Room Coffee and Tea
Casino Lessons
20% off at Atlantis Signature Stores when purchases are charged to a guest room
Atlantis Signature Retail locations include: Atlantis Signature Stores (Crystal Court, Royal Towers and Marina Village), Atlantis Kids, Atlantis Baby, Escape at The Cove, Fitness Center Retail Store, Dolphin Cay Retail Store and The Dig Retail Store. Discount does not apply to independent retail outlets including but not limited to sundry shops, jewelry stores, couture boutiques and souvenir photos.

Thanks and it looks like you are correct. Here is what it shows under my reservation:
Summary of Charges
Reward Description Qty Points
Hotel Reward: 5 Nights, Category 9 Hotel 1 180,000
Hotel Reward: 2 Nights, Category 9 Hotel 1 90,000
Standard Upgrade Reward 14 70,000
Total points for stay: 340,000
Summary of Room Charges Cost per night per room (USD)
Wednesday, May 27, 2015 - Wednesday, June 3, 2015 (7 nights , Marriott Rewards Upgrade, eCertificate plus 2 upgrade certificates required per night ) Marriott Rewards points
(see Reward Description)
Extra adult charge (children may be exempted) 100.00
Service charge 111.80
Estimated government taxes and fees 27.50
Total for stay (per room) 1,675.10
So $1675 on top of the 340k points I used and none of these fees were discussed before, during or after the reservation was made. One of our 4 is a 6yr old and I told them that at the time of booking. I'll be on the phone with Marriott today and if this doesnt clear up quickly I'll be vacationing elsewhere. Ive called United and luckily as a platinum member there is no fee to change my award tickets.
Now I just have to find an alternate Marriott tropical paradise with a water park...

Check out next door at the Comfort Suites, Paradise Island. You get to use all facilities of the Atlantis water park property and it is around $100 a night per person per
room~~~

Is it safe to walk at night from Atlantis back to the Comfort Suites? I am taking my daughters to Bahamas for the first time in June and have decided to stay at the Comfort Suites for 4 nights. Thanks

Any recent stays on points?
Has anyone recently stayed in the Royal Towers using points? We just booked a trip in August completely on points for us and our 2 daughters (ages are 7 and 9). My husband is Platinum and pretty much lives in a Marriott 75% of the year. We can change our reservation to another destination if needed. The reviews are pretty mixed and some very negative.
We understand that it will be expensive. We have stayed at Marriott's in Maui and Grand Cayman, so we understand sticker shock and are prepared for that. We are more interested in reviews on the rooms, quality of the service at the hotel, and any fees that you were charged using points.
Any reviews/information will be helpful.
Thank you.

Well this thread has been enlightening - in a bad way
I was under the impression my daughter was an extra $100 - but now at least I know it is only $50 (they are obviously charging extra for my Son). And when I saw those charges on marriott.com I sent an email (January?). Got a call back 3 weeks later saying "sorry, they are legit". Then my wife called about a month ago and the guy said "no, you won't be charged those fees". Alas, I think the first lady might have been right.
It sounds like no matter what we will be having some discussions with Marriott after the fact. Too late to change the trip and it sounds like we need to get up really early to get seats poolside.
Any recommendations there? How early do you need to save seats?

Planning a trip for Battle 4 Atlantis basketball tourney in the fall and while this thread is not really making me excited for that trip, I still think staying at Atlantis is probably the best option.
The good news is Look No Further rates are now allowed at Atlantis and I was able to get approved for one over Thanksgiving. Something to keep in mind when looking to book.
One question for those that have booked, my reservation currently has a 'tax line' which amounts to 39.5% of my total rate. In terms of the fees, taxes, etc. that are mentioned in this thread, is anyone sure what that includes? It seems like I'm looking at resort fees, manual gratuity, etc. but not sure what's included. Thanks

More dirty tricks for Atlantis....
I have had an awards stay booked in the Royal Tower for 4/4-11 booked since the first day you could book an award stay. I was smart and did a screen capture of my reservation showing:
$41.90 per day service charge and government taxes and fees are included for total of $292.30 for the stay.
Today when I looked at the reservation they have changed it with no notice to the following:
Resort fee $48.38
Service charge $10.00
Estimated government taxes and fees $11.88
For a total of $491.81
An almost $200.00 increase

This place keeps hitting new heights of sleaziness. Marriott must be wondering if they made a mistake hooking up with this establishment.

We also had an increase of about $200 for all of our fees and taxes from our original reservation. Our entire reservation is on points in the a Royal Towers. We called MR and they assured us we will be charged our original rate. They said fees increased after the date of our booking and we will not be affected. We have the email sent with our confirmation of booking for proof of this. We will definitely keep it with us for our trip and analyze our bill.
Does anyone else have any other reward stay reviews? Any upgrades for Platinums?
Also, has anyone tried using MR gift cards for the bill at checkout. We use these to cover our food/drinks on most Marriott vacations. Los Suenos (Costa Rica) and Grand Cayman have us zero problems using them.
Thanks!
