Utica NY Radisson rebranding to Delta hotel after renovation; expected to open Q1 '18.

Hotel offerings continue to expand on Clearwater Beach (FL) with the arrival of Marriott's dual-branded Residence Inn and SpringHill Suites, bringing a combined 255 suites to the area. The hotels are located at 309 Coronado Drive, positioned to capture views of Clearwater Bay (not the beach) and are at the center of Clearwater Beach's recent expansion south of Pier 60.

Gurgaon-based SAMHI Hotels, part-owned by Goldman Sachs, is set to rebrand British chain Premier Inn’s assets in India as Fairfield by Marriott after buying the India portfolio of the company. SAMHI Hotels has bought all five of Premier Inn’s hotels in India, people familiar with the development said. American hospitality firm Marriott International is already a partner with SAMHI Hotels for its Fairfield by Marriott hotels in India.

See here, but from what I see the hotels now finally are open as there are already 11 guest reviews on marriott.com...showing the usual teething issues we see at new hotels.

I finally decided against staying there mostly because of the fact that they have a hefty parking-fee of $25 per night, and it is valet only which I hate. I'm going to stick with the Marriott Suites just down the road.

The Ritz Carlton Buckhead in Atlanta seems to be re-branding to a Luxury Collection hotel by the end of the year. It's one of the original Ritz hotels when founded in Atlanta. Needs a major redo of the rooms which are quite small and basic.

One new Autograph Collection property that doesn't show up yet on the Marriott website is a hotel called Grand Universe in Lucca, Italy. This town is located around 20 km outside of Pisa, about 40 km from the Renaissance Il Ciocco Resort that is getting rave reviews on this board or and 50 km from Livorno where many cruises depart. It looks like the hotel is also a sister property to the Renaissance Resort.

Great news

During our weeks stay at the Renaissance last year their amazing staff recommended a Lucca Rest named Giglio. We returned 3 additional times as their food was just that good. And by this props location in the same square probably tripped over this hotel (hey, a liter of vino at noon will make ya feel real good)

SRV to build Finland’s first Marriott hotel in Tampere

SRV and Keva have signed a contractor agreement on the construction of
Finland’s first Marriott hotel in Tampere. The hotel project, developed by SRV,
will rise at the corner of Yliopistonkatu and Kalevantie, next to the main
entrance of Tampere Hall concert and congress centre. The final contract price
will not be published.

In a meeting held on 6 November, the City Board of Tampere decided on the sale
of a site to Keva on behalf of a company to be founded. The site has an area of
4,213 square metres and the building right totals 8,300 square metres of floor
area. The city plan for the plot was adopted in 2015.

“Finland’s first Marriot hotel, to be built in Tampere, will be project of
locally significant size. It is a delight to be able once again to build a
hotel in a prominent location in Tampere city centre. The idea of a hotel
adjacent to Tampere Hall has been pending for a long time, as Tampere has a
growing need for quality accommodation and congress services. The new hotel
will be an 11-storey, 229-room development, sitting in an urban environment and
naturally integrated with Tampere Hall,” says SRV’s Henri Sulankivi, Regional
Director, Pirkanmaa.

The hotel project developed from a site allocation competition held by the City
of Tampere in 2013, which sought to find an architecturally high-quality
solution for the construction of a hotel adjacent to Tampere Hall. SRV,
Marriott and ALA Architects won the competition with their proposal in 2014.
Since the competition win, the project has been developed in cooperation with
partners. Earlier this year, Keva joined the group as an investor and as the
future owner of the hotel and the hotel site.

Construction of the hotel is due to begin in early summer 2018. Overall, the
hotel is expected to be completed in autumn 2019. ALA Architects are
responsible for the architectural design of the new hotel.

Not sure if I like this move as this was my favorite Courtyard in the system... Pretty sure it will reopen with a dreaded resort fee and all sort of other fees... 😡

Marriott franchised the Renaissance name to the "new" Renaissance in downtown Toledo, which is 1970s or early 1980s building that has been a Sofitel, Marriott, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Best Western and I think Holiday Inn a second time before closing a couple years ago. They did an okay job on the renovations, but like so many renovations didn't replace (or at least refresh) old elevators or paint rooftops that are visible from rooms. The bathrooms are also very small.

I was hoping it would be the Premier Inn properties in the U.K., not India. Premier Inn properties are seemingly everywhere in the U.K. whereas Marriott has a fairly limited footprint, especially outside London and its golf club properties.
