VGC payment with Walmart Pay
 
Tried purchasing Vanilla GC at self checkout using walmart pay but it didn’t work. Wondering if walmart pay can be used to purchase GC at walmart?

It is not a 100% dead. It worked for me randomly till the end of last year. May be 20% of the time but stopped working since November or so. To my surprise, it worked again yesterday on a $500 VGC.

I’ve now had this happen to me, a load time out causing it to auto-cancel, tried it again and it went though normally. Problem is, on Discover account shows two successful loads. I don’t want the money, 1099, or eyes. What can I do at this point?

Theres a chance they may take it back so let it simmer.
I haven’t gotten a 1099 from them. I’ve also moved thousands more through discover since then.

I would agree with the above, let it be. Obviously, for the amounts of money Cap1 is dealing with, it isn't worth their time of effort to claw it back, in their opinion,

But I would check your documents in the Discover app to see if the 1099 MISC form is in there, along with the interest reported for 2025 on the standard 1099 form.

While the likelihood of your return being audited and that missing sum being picked up is miniscule, the IRS is very good at electronically detecting missing 1099s and sending a letter demanding the tax owed, along with interest for underpayment. So better to see if Cap1 actually reported it ;)

I've had that happen a couple of times in the past. :(

My super friendly WM clerk told me this morning that they can't load cards with cards anymore (I didn't ask about MOs ... I'll try try that next time). She looked up the memo on her phone and said "they call it Manufactured Spending". Now, I don't know if this was some snotty local manager or a company-wide thing. Just reporting what I experienced just now.

I quoted it exactly as she said it. She's been working the the customer service/money center counter for gobs of years (10? more?). She used to tell ME she had several guys that did the same thing ... "for miles, right?". She has always known what we were doing and always been very helpful. Waiting to see if it was a) Just My Store of choice, b) A regional thing (in NE Ohio) or c) Company wide.

I have a less-friendly store in my area that I can try ... perhaps tomorrow. The "less friendly" part causes me pause. We'll see.

You missed the part where she found a recent email on her phone and read it to me It WAS an official WM notification. The email used the MS phrase ... she couldn't remember until she read me the email. Again, I just don't know yet if it was very local or national.

Sadly, sort of :), I retired on Friday and assumed I'd have every morning to visit WM. Go figure. Timing was "perfect".

At least for Walmarts in my area, Money Center is the only option. Other cashiers don’t know how to do prepaid card loads and/or refuse and direct you to Money Center. Thankfully with the exception of one WM near me that I now avoid, all the Money Centers near me have always been friendly and don’t seem to care or ask any questions about what I’m doing.
