They didn't shut me down, so I cleared point balances, got Spark welcome bonus, etc., and then tried Simon again.... and bam! Not only mine, but P2 cards were shut down as well, all in one day. I suppose I won't be able to open another Cap 1 for years to come.

This is what happened to me back in 2015 except Cap 1 never called me about my GC purchases but just shut me down about 1 year into the card. I was smart to clear my point balances as soon as I stopped doing Simon purchases a few months before the shutdown just in case anything happened. I still firmly believe that I was shut down due to my numerous Simon VGC purchases which put me on the radar. They probably have certain risk parameters in their risk/fraud department and I exceeded it which put eyes on my account. I don't know if Cap 1 will ever let you keep a credit card for years to come. I opened a Cap 1 360 savings account back in Dec 2019 and they allowed me to open it but only to shut me down in 2 weeks. They didn't tell me the exact reason for the shutdown but I am sure it is because of the Cap 1 credit card since that is the only other relationship that I have ever had with Cap 1. They do seem to hold grudges for awhile.

Are you saying you stopped doing MS and they shut you down a few months later?? Or did you stop doing MS at Simon specifically with the card ?

And yeah, I also strongly suspect Simon is the major factor in many shutdowns. I lost my US Altitude in a similar fashion. Was buying GCs everywhere, as soon as I paid a visit to Simon with it, that was the end of it. I don't use cards there that I want to keep around

At the time, I cashed out my points in August and got shut down in December just in case something happened. I think at the time my game plan was if I wasn't going to do MS on the card anytime soon, I would cash out the points since I didn't want to leave "money on the table". I guess I got lucky in a sense. I stopped doing MS on the Cap 1 card because I was more focused on maxing out Serve which I was using my Ink cards to get the 5x multiple which had better rewards.

Barclay's shut down all 3 of my cards. Letter just says generic "after reviewing our accounts, blah blah"

CashForward, AAdvantage Personal, Jetblue Plus.

I was cycling heavily on the CashForward for MS, but haven't touched any of the cards since March.

Welcome to the club! They shut me down a few years ago, and won't let me back.

What do you mean by "heavily"? Can you give us a figure?

4 accounts - avtr x 2, wydm x 1, jtblu x 1
got greedy... BP multiple times, missed a payment and asked for a waived interest charge.. probably put me on the radar
Was hitting it hard because of anxiety of liquidation options getting pulled
avtr - 40-50K/each x 3 yrs; jtblu x 50K x 2 years, wydm - rarely used
Waiting on the letter for the "specific reason"
Of note.. avtr biz and hawaii biz still active

1) think they will shut my biz account down?
2) people seem to say 6 months rather than lifetime.. any data points?
3) has anyone every gotten them to reconsider?... probably based on my behavior.. I should move on.. but they did make a lot of money off me

your volume was very low. barely 5k/mo per card. but you said you were hitting it hard. did you cycle? did you always let your statement close with a balance on those cards? in aggregate, sounds like it was around 15k/mo across all cards? in any case, many HH push 100k+/mo or double that so volume doesnt seem to be the reason. but theres always a trigger. im almost certain it was your WMBP and also your missed payment. asking for the interest waiver put eyes on your account. cycling would also increase the risk factor.

hows your biz accounts? shut down too? some have gotten back in very quickly. you can try, but they also get shut down again. i have never heard of a barclay reversal.

I think your theory on why I was shutdown is right on.
They shut down the biz accounts about a month later.
Confiscated my annual fees and didn't give me miles from my last balance
Small Claims filed and served - court in August

Would you please keep us informed as to the outcome of your case.

We have so many who claim that they are going to file SCC suits yet we never hear anything after. It would be nice to get closure one way or the other.
BTW, good luck in your case ;)

I wonder if they usually get settled before the hearing with some sort of non-disclosure clause.

i wonder if someone said that their case had been "amicably settled to both parties satisfaction" that this would violate a NDA?

Reading the NDA will answer that. If you don't understand the document, change it to make it clear or don't sign it.

All 3 citicards of my wife closed.
Citi TYP - about 150K points were there
Citi Personal
Citi Biz.

No activity on Citi Personal or Biz since March and before that was bout 4k-5k per month MS. same with Citi TYP. Only MS recent months after March was a 1000$ gc in grocery store.

Question - Not showing any TYP points on the account page (Citi TYP and Citi Personal in same login account).
Only statement balance is 1050$ that just posted on Citi TYP. I want to pay it off to close it but will Citi give back the points for at least a day so I can transfer it out. Any negotiation possible to say that I will pay the statement balance asap but you cant expect me to pay the balance and confiscate points at same time.

any thoughts.

Most likely no. They will tell you relationship was terminated, and give you a vague run-around and suggest you mail some faceless "risk department" which will send you a cookie cutter letter that will explain nothing.

Pay it and go for small claim if points forfeited. The relationship is done anyway.
