Partial C1ty shutdown
3 c1itib@nk bank accounts and business cc account shurdown. All personal CC ok so far.
I have had 2 bank accounts open with them for about 20 years. I think its odd, I have never deposited a money order into these accounts. Back in the evolve days, I was able to set up my bank account as a mortgage and payments were deposited directly into my checking. I MS over 50k per month on my personal citi cards. Odd tat they didn't close them . I always expected them to shut me down but this was odd that these accounts are still open. I only MS about 2,500 a month on my business card and that is shut down. The third bank account was only 3 months old. Ironically I opened it when I went to a branch to close my accounts. they offered me a 1.8% savings account promo and i took it and deposited 150k. Notice gives me 30 days to withdraw money or they will send me a check. This is second time they did partial shutdown to me. Last time was many years ago and they just closed 1 account. Citi is my go to MS card for reasons I do not share so when they shut down my personal cards it will hurt but it is something I always prepared for. So I am not sure what caused the closure, if it was the large deposits or the activity on my personal cc's but I figure I would share if its helpfull. |

Chase is pretty malignant because when they close an account, everything else goes along for the ride as well. However, I haven't heard that about Citi, yet. What we do know is that there are now human eyes on some of your accounts. It will be amazing if they don't look at your personal accounts as well. However, Citi is a different breed of bank, to say the least  Let us know if things change. |

Remember that lots of banks are closing cards and cutting credit limits, as well as demanding employment verification now.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...our-job-status So if you get some card closures, that may have nothing whatever to do with MS. |

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...our-job-status So if you get some card closures, that may have nothing whatever to do with MS. However, what is doesn't explicitly say is that there are now human eyes on the accounts that they are assessing and closing. So no matter whether it is Covid or MS related, if there are human eyes on chaser123's accounts, that does not bode well if there is hanky panky going on. :o |

Believe me, in 30 days, all your cards will be closed. It happened to me, way way back. I didn't pay attention to why they closed checking account, but in one month they closed everything.

You are right. less than 2 weeks and they closed all my accounts and my wife's accounts. She was an AU on my original Citi Card that I had since 1993. I never MSed on her accounts. I always thought it was smart to only MS on my accounts and leave hers out of it. No surprise for me, I hit this bank very hard over the years. My huge mistake was not clearing out my cash back balance. Over 2k in Double cash. My stupidity. I would normally have transferred to TY points and use to book travel. With everything on hold, I was reluctant to transfer. I was even dummer because I knew eyes were on my accounts. Now I think I will have to fight to get i back. Who is that lawyer? I will have to search the threads.
Look into the Chase closure thread. There were people there who reported closures but successfully clawed back their reward points. Needless to say, one does not MS on accounts they want to keep open:o |

Sorry to read about the closure. I guess Citi is not much different than Chase when it comes to terminating relationships. :(

Following up on B@rcl@y shutdown - they clawed back my last 10,000 AA points and aren't awarding me the 5,000 EQM so it appears. And of course, no refund of prorated Annual Fee.
It looks like they added anti-gaming language in a revised card member agreement (w/ no opt-out) sent by mailer - definitions of gaming/abuse at their "sole discretion." Not sure that can hold legally. Original cardmember agreement has nothing of the sorts. Anyone have luck getting AA points from a closed @vi@tor? I am writing for additional information with a kind request. When I am denied will go consumer protection bureau and probably small claims - breach of contract/unjust enrichment. |

Can you imagine trying to run a card program where every cardholder is subject to different terms, based on when they first acquired the card? |

You should see what CapOne does. They even shut down my CD and had the nerve to charge me early termination penalty. Fortunately after a few phone calls and threats of CFPB they sent me check for the difference.
