vary by store in the same area as well; while the system does accept DCs, some mgr make up own rule insisting only cash... just had to come back another day / time

Depends on your region. Some places like Ralphs supermarket only take cash for MOs.

Just rejected for MO’s at Safeway due to the memo. Explicitly told that system wasn’t updated yet to decline yet but that they couldn’t sell to me.

Wow - liquidated a Simon VGC order yesterday, $10k total. At one of the stops, though, the store wasn't selling any MOs and had just gotten a new Western Union machine in a box that they were setting up today. Not sure if the two things are linked. Will try my local option later today.

Denied yesterday at previously friendly. A manager said sorry and had a memo the MC with the bow that was pictured as well as silver visa. Haven’t had a chance at other locations yet.

So your denial was based on appearance of the card and not blocked by the machine (like at WM)?

The manger asked directly are you using gift cards and I answered honestly. I didn’t Show anything or get to swipe.

They previous knew I used gift card and asked about it before - I explained I was getting miles and never bought the cards at their store only Office Depot and staples

She was holding the memo in her hand loosely and letting me see it while she talked - kinda like sorry it’s not my fault I’m just following the memo.

i went to Kroger and used staple MC, auto drain and problem fixed, which I was afraid of because I never saw a post abut that being fixed. I’ve avoided MC at Kroger’s for a long time.

But what a pain this will be if all locations start enforcing or hard code comes.

I’m going to try other friendly locations today. I hope it’s ymmv. Also I get the feeling there cool when name is printed.

Interesting - if they are just enforcing by asking (which I've only had once and avoid that clerk now) and not by coding, then I feel pretty safe. I only use the Simon VGC with my name and company printed on them. They look just like credit cards (Amex and Chase) that have the same two lines on them, so even when they see it, no issue at all.

You are probably safe for now, but the memo seems to indicate a hard machine decline of swipes over $100 just like at WM. They just have not updated the system yet.

That's my fear - and why I liquidate Simon's within 24 hours of getting them now. I can float one order, can't float three in a month. I can liquidate one order organically in a month if necessary.
