Was at Kroger earlier and requested 2k money orders and the sassy rep got nosy and obnoxious asking her manager, pulling out a money order book, etc. yet, most don't bat an eye at 5k gc purchases.

Just stopped by a Kroger in McKinney and one in Plano (DFW area) and both asked to see my debit cards. First time either had done that. First one denied me, second one looked at them, gave them back to me and let me proceed with the purchase. Not sure what they were looking for, maybe to see if it said "Debit" on the card.

Depends on region. In the Pacific NW you can get $1 / gallon discount.

Perhaps...but keep on advertising to the general public exactly which places still work for you, and those last few places will kick the bucket, as well. I knew the writing was on the wall for Kr0ger when WM stopped accepting OV and more people starting posting about Kr0ger as an alternative. I used to not have any problems at my local Kr0gers, and the clerks knew me as a repeat customer. Then they started telling me about other people visiting the store making huge purchases in MO or VGC. Then the managers started changing the policies to make MS more difficult. The FT effect.

Had a VGC give me "not authorized" error trying to buy a MO today. Will try another Kroger later today. Maybe I hit them too hard in the past and they figured it out

Something is up.
Edit: I tried a debit transaction to buy items at another store and it worked. I guess its not the PIN.

Agreed. I wouldn't even mention the places that you can buy MOs in a public forum. You're sending folks to your places of operation that might not have the discretion that you do.

Used both a US Bank visa gift card and a OV visa gift card at the store that is the subject of this thread to buy you-know-what's, so MSing appears alive and well.

Anyone have an update on this? I'd like to use a point earning bank debit card for bill pay at Kroger.

So, Ive been a long time lurker to the MS community. I completed a good amount of MS on Blue Cash statement that closes tonight. Over a period of months, Ive ramped up with Amex to a significant amount multiple times my 10K limit with no adverse action from AMEX.
I wanted to share few observations about some of the local Krogers in the Dallas area. Ive noticed they have the ones closest to Uptown been getting very suspicious about money orders. Ive even had one lady say she wasnt going accept my T-Mobile card because it wasnt a debit card from a real bank. At another Kroger, I have been basically been banned from using my blue cash to purchase Metas when certain employees are working because they said it was a gift card and not a credit card. In a lot of Krogers, I feel it is definitely harder to do split accounts for Money orders and I try to only use my T-Mobile card at Kroger and go to Wal-Mart if I need to a multiple account money order. In the more affluent suburbs, the Krogers stores still seem friendly and dont question large transactions or are happy when I say Im getting extra points on my credit card for online spending.
I have noticed that ones that question the MS activities are usually older with a power chip on their shoulder and the younger high school / college kids dont really care. In the end, I try to not let these low paid workers try to affect me, I guess it is part of MS fun.

Same here XtraPerks. Live in DFW also and some g-stores are definitely watching things. The TT near me post what I call a non-CC person closest to the GC stand. As I approach, before I even get to the register, she asks how I am paying for it and says I hope it is cash.
