Was RDU area for those interested.

Long time lurker with a great amount of respect for all that keep these threads up-to-date. I've been one of the handful in MD who have ridden the train of no-fee $200 cards for the last few months. While I've gone slow and easy since August, it seems that OD has now moved to cash only on the fixed-rate cards.

Here in CA the OD gift card rack clearly states that variables are cash only, while fixed value GCs can be purchased with CCs. This is a standard rack and probably national. It's great because you can argue with ill-informed employees, and escort them to the rack if necessary.

No problem buying fixed value GCs at OD with a CC.

except if your purchase needs a mgr approval, good luck getting them to adhere to what is posted. And if successful most likley they will remove it so at most you have a 1 shot chance

as long as there are other OSes I will simply walk if told ca$h only, not worth my time going at it with them

What's new there? OD has rejected all GC purchases on cc (shell, starbucks, amazon...). Just not limited to V GC. OD has had the anti-GC thing going for months. Tried in Chicagoland and other states.

Nothing new there. That's been the case for few months. Not only V GCs, they are rejecting ANY GC purchases. Including retail store GCs.

Not in CA. Change residences? Better weather here too.

Our local OD will sell HIGC with my Ink, and Lowe's will let you purchase what ever GC you like, I charge them on my LAR account, and pay it off with the HIGC.

LAR gives you 5% off your purchases on Lowe's items

Don't tempt me! Weather is reason enough.

New experience - went to staples and picked few MC GCs by US national bank. Transaction rejected. ...!! Called Chase right at the spotv and they said they are not even getting the transaction for authorization and block maybe coming from the merchant. Anyone had the same experience of late?

A $200 Visa gift card purchase at Staples went through just fine today for me.

Ditto, although a manager hovering in the background almost foiled my CC purchase from a disinterested clerk (selectively enforced store rule).

Same here, no problems with the $200 GC at Staples. It's still a profit with the Ink even with the $6.95 fee but boy do I miss the good ole days of 3.95 VR's at OD. Just for kicks decided to go a local OD. I don't live an area with a lot of MS but it's definitely coded cash only at the register.

Sign up for Plink, link your Chase Ink account, and it becomes $4.95. Almost as good!

It's too bad that Officemax is being bought by OD. I like the Metabank cards at OM.
