I saw this offer on my just for you - safeway account. Not sure if this will work for variable load cards.
$15 off a purchase of $100 or more in American Express Gift Cards
Limit 1
Special Offer
$15.00 OFF
Offer Type: One-time
Expires 11/19/2013
Edit: It doesn't seem to come up for all accounts. I noticed in one of my accounts (I have 4 in total). Looks like it is targeted, check your personalized price section.

Someone on another thread said they have used GC at WM - more expensive than VR. AP, is an opportunity cost for me, given many ways to make money with it. TAMEX is not something I have explored given its costs. VR or GC both have costs which at the end, negate the Amex cost and the VR + GC cost - to make it not worth while for me

Most efficient liquidation is to just buy a MC at Safeway with the AMEX GC.

Never had a problem using AMEX GC at Safeway. Registers automatically drain remaining balance. Rarely an ID check, but the clerks know me by now so don't ask for ID.

I bought a $100 MC gift card from Vons yesterday (to be gifted to someone), and got the $10 coupon. As I purchased with a few other things, I entered in my Vons membership number. Today, I purchased a $500 variable MC and did NOT get the coupon. Seeing as how I didn't buy anything else and knew I wouldn't get gas points, I didn't bother entering my membership number. Is this why I didn't get the coupon-- no membership number? Or are others not getting the coupon for variable cards?
Also, just to be sure-- I've hard problems loading MC gift cards to BB in past at Walmart MoneyCenter as well as ATM kiosk. But here I'm reading people do it at the MoneyCenter AND at the kiosk. I read about the "cancel" trick... but how are people loading BB at kiosk?

To get MC to work at WM I have to hit "change payment" button really fast (within seconds of swiping the card), then choose debit, and PIN screen comes up. If I don't hit that "change payment" button within a second of it showing up on the screen it goes away and I have to swipe again.

Safeway/VONS - $10 off coupon w/ $100 Mastercard or VISA Gift Cards [Recurring]
But how are people loading BB using kiosk?
What about not getting coupon? Is it because I didn't use my vons member number?
