It says up to 20cent per gallon. This is not like Shell's fuel reward program which does not have a cap IIRC.

Good point. For this reason I didn't even bother learning about this program, even though Chevron fuels are consistently excellent.
Shell's program periodically gives out $0.25/gal codes for no activity at all (as with T-Mo Tuesdays).

Balloons VVGC $500 did not give me the $10 discount but still gave the 4x fuel points making it still worthwhile.

Worthwhile to complain to HQ?

Is it worthwhile to complain to HQ hoping for a change at a particular store? Will HQ be able to set a store straight?

This one store is very convenient to me. But the morning crew kept on making up rules. This morning's rule is that variable VGC cannot be purchased with an Amex card. (Fixed value VGC will be ok.) The "manager" made up excuses and I knew he just made up because he said that he just talked to Maureen of Corporate and was directed to this rule.

It's best to walk away, come back another day.

Yeah this is a definite drawback to the Safeway fuel bonuses since Shell doesn't have a cap on their program. That said, you can get up to $1.00 off per gallon if you fill at Safeway gas stations (assuming there are any around you) -- the $0.20/gallon limit is only when you use safeway rewards to redeem at Chevron.

Specify which style of $500 card you bought; there was a report that the one with balloons didn't give the discount, but the black/graphite card did for me.

$10 discount worked for me today with black kevlars and pink ones with the flowers. Others seem to just ring up 4X fuel rewards

Cupcake VVGC -$10, no FR. Same as last promotion.

I really like that Safeway has Apple Pay. No "scrutinize ID and CC" which some cashiers do when it's chip or swipe, and it's fast.
