well thats just strange then. Cant think of why it would work for others and not for me, at 4 different CVSs except for the type of card, but others said they used the $100 AMEX from OM sooo Im at a loss.

Is it flat out declining the GC or what?

its saying alternate tender required. When I have them split the transaction manually at the register they go through just fine as credit. Problem is most cashiers dont know how to do it, so I either have to wait for a manager, or go try another CVS.... would be nice to not have to wait to have them figure out what to do.

VR mistake number one, not bringing the right card!

Hmmm seems like it's a coded error. However, weird that it's happening to so many.

I am home in San Diego for a few weeks, so I am waiting for my order to ship here to try out the various CVS's around town that already let me buy VRs like crazy when I'm here. :) Hopefully no problem!

I just went to my regular CVS and they pointed to some bogus sign that said cash only, that they just got an email about it blah blah blah. I was just there two weeks ago...is it just this CVS or have others noticed them cracking down

After researching and talking to a few different people, apparently its a YMMV type of situation. It varies depending on the prepaid card, the store, and even the location, so what works for one person at a certain store with a certain card might not even work for another person in a different state. Kinda stinks cause none of the cashiers seem to know how to split payments. Soooo YMMV if you can swipe and have the register autodetect the value of the prepaid. Personally Ive only ever seen this happen at one store (not a CVS), so I thought it was a by-chain basis, not a possible by-store basis. Odd.

Yet another uneventful trip to CVS this morning, no cash only claims in my neck of the woods.

Blueskyheaven Dec 18, 2013 9:49 am

Asked the supervisor why it is cash only, he says they used to take cards for this but it hasn't been working well despite the new ID scan machine. Says it is a headache for them cos there are people buying many and some even coming back saying they lost the vrs and need refund or replacement vrs. Not worth the nonsense he said. So some of you are making it bad for everyone I guess

Just picked up $2k of beans from CVS and loaded to Netspend without any issue.

Herndon VA

To whoever just called the manager at the Herndon, VA store in the clock tower shopping center and asked about VR limits: (1) there isn't $5k there anymore unless you have a hidden stash; (2) the DL scan is not working; (3) stop calling CVS. :)

On the plus side no issues with a CC purchase today.

I see supply of VR in almost every CVS around here! May be because I put my MVD in the shoe box! last month my funds were blocked, ;)

Ok what part of LA is this...can you please PM me? I've been to several locations in LA & nothing. My go to store in Pasadena just started pulling the cash only card :(

the other end of the 710 freeway has them, some store keep them behind the counter and you have to ask

Just purchased my first ever VR today, I was surprised the CVS I went to had a healthy stack of them. I erroneously purchased a OneVanilla first time around at CVS.:P

Now time to build up courage to purchase 1k and up in one visit.
