Yeah, I've been trying that. My problem is more I live in the SW, so the summer 120 degree weather nukes them between walking to my car and the hot car ride home.
Keep them in your pocket or whatever until you come home. |

Loaded My Vanilla debit card $1000.00 have a new balance of $3560 yesterday but CA at citi was denied today and I cannot log in to check the status on my account...(I have been using MVD for about 8 months)
Seems like a shut down? What is the best way to get my $3500 out? Always always check your account status first before you do anything - load, or unload. Call MVD they would tell you what are needed from you (fax in ID proof docs). Enough of folks have gone thru this earlier this year. Mechanism to let you get your money back varies but the majority has their accounts re-activated to allow them to unload in 48 hours. |

Both my prior cards were shutdown this way. Just call, get it activated for 48hrs, during which you can actually load and unload up to $7.5k (although they'll tell you can only unload). |

My method for this is that you can register MVD with Mint. I login to Mint, it updates all accounts incl. MVD. If that works I know that the account is still alive.

Now, they want the receipts and Dr. L/c copy for log in reset. Not sure if its temp hold or shut down. I am tired of this MS. I feel life is more than taking care of such silly things....I felt like telling just close my account and send me my check, then I thought I may be put on a no-fly-list!;) |

My card that was shut down about 5 months ago still shows status "Active" although it has $-5.95 on it (the took CA fees after I zeroed it out). Does it mean I can still use it?

Try it and please report back.
But if they disable my other cards - I will definitely try. |
For those of you not shut down, how long do you wait after loading before cashing out?

NOT the balance, but the Account Status, you know, that little thing on the right top corner - that is where you should check before you head out to the bank. If it is not "Active", you are toast.

Do they typically shut down after a load or after an unload?
Therefore, one should always always check the account status before doing anything - load or unload. The status of the card is the first thing I look whenever I log in. Back in March when they suspended a lot of accounts the status was "On Hold". Some folks got theirs completely shut down later. Some folks got theirs reopened for unload and stay open since then. No logic at all. Pure luck related I guess. Though if you can float the money, being shut down only means you cannot immediately access your money as they do let you get the money once you meet the request of ID proof docs and may be other things (receipts of purchases, which they did not ask in the past.) |

Yes. But the -$5.95 would be offset from your fresh load. In other words if you want to use it again, you would need to cough up the $5.95 first.
