You can get MOs in spend down, at least I could the last time.

Whichever is your preference!

When all my MVD cards were shutdown (over the time), that meant that I didn't have online access. With my last card it was different - I do have online access, but the status is " spend down". The balance is 0 ( since when it was active I loaded $2.5K and paid a bill immediately for full amount knowing that I wouldn't need this card anymore and such purchase will cause a shutdown). Do I need to call them to close an account or it would be closed automatically.

I can still access online an account that was put into spend down about a month ago. So you may have to call in. I am going to give it a little longer and then call/message them asking to close. Status still shows "spend down" though there has been no balance on the card for weeks.

Crap, I'm blocked with MVD... still 5k on the card.... should I waste my time calling or should I just go directly to the FDIC website?

Thanks for your reply healthnut. The reason the TCF teller voided the transaction because the terminal printer broke (she and all the other employees currently working there (9:30 AM Sunday) could not figure out how to fix it. I just hope my voided funds can be returned on my spend down MVD (hope the MVD card is not closed). That is what I am really worried about.

Got my money back ($2498) today...exactly 1 week after my failed cash advance at TCF:) I went back to TCF today and did another cash advance on my MVD card (which was in spend down mode).

You're most likely in spend down mode... Not closed. Just go liquidate it via MO or CA ASAP.

seems if you load too much on any day you will get shut down. $2500 the max they allow will get you shut down. Wanted to try doing $2500 then wait a week and do a double load right before and after midnight thought that would end up with $7500. Nope Load $2500 and maybe you have 24 hrs before they place you in Spend Down.

So max load will be $500 over 2 days if youre lucky

if however a person has left over VRs or already loaded their MVD and it got shut down and they have a bal of $x500, I suggest doing the following for MOing. 1- go to a -4 and with ca$h buy a Temp MVD for $20 + a fee of $2.95 if you still need a MVD card, if not depending on the amount you get per $1 spent go to a -4 or RA,WG or CV and p/u a OV for $480 this way you can get an even amount for MOs if going to Wally where .70 gets you 1 MO up to and including $1k if you have an even amount then just get the Temp MVD

assumimng you now have an even amount of $$ on the MVD that ends in $x000 Go to Wally and for say $3K say you want 2 MOs for $1k each and a 3rd for $997.40 Then tell them you need to do a spilt payment the 1st is for $2497.40 and swipe the MVD that should leave an even $500 to go and then swipe the OV

I did this today at 3 Wallys and walked out each time with the MOs. By swiping the MVD 1st its telling them you arent using a GC since if you were the max can only be $500, not 1 of the 3 questioned me about the $500 card

My bank took my temps from me but the last thing I wanted was to use a temp that wasnt in my name least Bancorp inquire and then tells the Feds Im doing fraudualant things. I paid the extra $.65 to get 3 MOs @ Wally and its well worth it to stay under the radar IMO

hope it helps someone

I see in the Wiki that CA may be limited to $2,500/mo instead of $2,500/day as outlined in the card agreement. I withdrew $2,000 and $2,500 from two separate cards last Thursday, then tried another CA for same amounts on Saturday and was declined. Neither card in shut down mode.

So is it now widely accepted that the limit is monthly instead of daily? Frustrating.

Darn.

Would someone know the FDIC link others have called to expedite the check mail outs?

Thanks.

So how many registered MVDs you already have?

FWIW, for those under Spend Down the $2500 limit doesnt apply and you can CA the whole amount (less $1.95). Did a CA for just under $5k last week 1 transaction on my temp card to boot

So without Vanilla Reloads or the ability to buy MVD either, anyone have any clue how to use the MVD's now? Seems like these are now junk after we cash out all the ones we bought last week (when Vanilla Reloads were out of stock). Funny how many I've been able to register the past year haha.
