I'm confused by one thing.

According to AP, accounts can send and receive $500 each month. I also saw it referenced by a FT post last month.

But from day one I've been able to send and receive $1K, including this month. So what's the $500 about?

Is $500 for new accounts, and those of us with $1K are grandfathered in?

I'd guess it's what I've bolded... from the link you provided.

Personal Accounts may receive up to $500 per month. The receiving limit may be raised or removed entirely once a credit card and verified bank account have been registered in the account.

Could be, but just saying "may be raised or removed", and not providing an amount (when we all know it's $1K) seems unnecessarily vague.

Can you? and Safe? are two completely different things.

So why do people report all the time about their accounts closed as a result of having multiple AP accounts under one SSN?

I think what they're referring to is...

Can you have 2+ accounts? Yes, you can have multiple accounts with one SSN. I do as well.

Is it safe? Well until you get shutdown.

Safe way is to play by the rules established by Amazon, one account per SSN, $1K/month sending and receiving.

I tend to believe, though, that Amazon will sooner or later close this wonderful window.
They are losing money on each transaction.

So make your own conclusion.

+1 Look at what happened to the dollar coin purchase program when people got too greedy and some idiot ran her mouth to NPR

Yep, thanks to Jane's big mouth and her wanting 5 minutes of fame, the program go shut down. It would have gotten shut down eventually but if no one would have spoken to NPR it wouldn't have gotten that kind of publicity

Amazon Payments

I've read about 200 of the past 209 pages. I have a->b->...e->a, multiple random numbers adding up to 1k each. Each person has a different ssn, address, bank, BUT I'm using the same card for all of them (personal UA Club card) is this a huge problem that all accounts are using the same cc with the same name? I've seen posts about people saying they use same card, but different names. In this case, do you add them as AU or just use their name when filling in info and not caring about lying about the users name....?

I don't think anyone is going to lay it out that plainly, publicly. Too much exposure when this already has too much attention and too many problems lately.

Agree with you. If we all play by the rules and not get greedy then much less chance this program will end anytime soon as Amz is making good profits now with a good bottom line. But if abuse of program takes place and leaks out then Amz will have no choice but to shut it down and not look like idiots.Remember that saving the company name is worth ALOT OF MONEY. Again, make your own conclusions.

Big issue may be ensuring that the card has the right zip for the account holder. (unless you all live in the same zip).

Agree with you, except Amazon is losing money on Amazon Payments made with CC. On each and every transaction. And making payments w/CC is the only interesting way to everyone involved in MS.

Even on non-CC transactions they are losing money, considering IT and infrastructure costs.

But that's fine. Amazon is huge and profitable and apparently it can afford this little exercise in charity :D
