I tend to believe, though, that Amazon will sooner or later close this wonderful window.
They are losing money on each transaction. |
Really?

Doing a little experiment, I have a gift card from Amex I bought from Staples. It is $200. I couldn't get it to work at $200, so I switched the amount to $199 because I thought I read that Amex holds $1.00 or something like that. I got it to work that way. So basically if I want to do this I will lose a $1 on top of the $7 fee from Staples, correct?

There is a thread somewhere about using incorrect expiration dates to avoid the $1 hold. You can also just wait until the hold falls off (~ 7 days) and pay a cable/cell bill or something along those lines.

So I am assuming that AP and ATM are the only way to get funds out of a Amex Prepaid card account (the dark blue card) Does not look like it has bill pay on it. Had it in a drawer from an old $25 promo.
And BTW when entering on AP, use the wrong year for the exp date, then go right back and change it to the correct one and you will have the full value of your gift card available. JudyJFLA |

Incorrect. The $1 hold is a temporary charge that just verifies your info is correct. This happens on almost any online merchant that you use a card with. Not sure how you're not aware of this, or perhaps you just don't buy online often?
Thank you all for the quick response! |
well they got me. one of my AP is now in "suspended status". Weird they took one and only one AP out. I would think that the sending AP is just as naughty as the receiving AP.
I have no experience with this, but I'm assuming that this suspended status won't be lifted on its own, as I read happened for others earlier this year when they did a mass ban and subsequent mass activation. weird thing is that they took out my legit account. amazon prime member for a few years with a large gift card balance. one thing i did that may or may not be related is i deleted all the many old cards from each of my accounts recently because i had a hard time finding the active ones in the list that i just added and needed to liquidate. bummer, i will have to think about where to go from here. possibly cancel this account and reactivate it, if possible. or see if the ban lifts itself after a period of time, or just let it go and live with the remaining accounts, or maybe even contact amazon and act stupid and beg forgiveness lol (unlikely i will do this as i feel it will risk the remaining ones if a human digs into my business). |
