MHUpgrade is MH's implementation of Plusgrade's bid on an upgrade platform.
  • You can check if your itinerary is eligible for bidding on an upgrade (most are) on MH's website here, but it typically takes 24-48 hours after the ticket is issued for the itinerary to be in Plusgrade's system
  • You cannot bid for flights departing within 72 hours
  • Minimum bids are dynamically set based on various factors, and don't appear to change as you get closer to flight departure
  • Tip: If you're bidding the minimum, you should consider making the bid in USD unless bidding in your home currency avoids credit card costs that are higher than the difference in pricing (see this post)
  • Bid amounts can be changed or withdrawn up to 72 hours from flight departure. It does not appear that you can update the credit card number
  • Accepted bids will be processed within the 72 hours window, generally prior to 48 hours to departure
  • If your bid is accepted:
    • The credit card will be charged
    • You will be rebooked in "I" class for business class, "P" class for first class
    • You will receive an email notification from Plusgrade
    • You will receive an email with your new eTicket from the airline
  • Within MH Enrich, mileage accrual is based on the fare class on your original ticket. For partner programs, without manual intervention, your mileage accrual is based on the class you've been rebooked into, not the one from your original ticket. Retro claims based on original booking may be required, it is unclear yet if they will be accepted or not.
    • Note that "I" earns nothing, including no segment credits or tier points (it's as if you never took the flight) on AA, BA, CX, and probably other carriers (check your program's information), so from a frequent flyer standpoint you might end up worse off
    • There are multiple reports from multiple users in this thread that mileage on partner programs (BA) will be credited based on the earning rates (if any) from original booking class, following manual intervention/claim.
  • Please read MH's FAQs

First (and probably last) time to try Business Suite/First product on MH and wanted to critique using my own experience rather than arm chairing on others. You can regularly find cheap business fares on MH, but F fares are a bit more rare so not sure if I would have the same opportunity.

LAST MINUTE UPGRADES Travel in style and luxury with an upgrade from Business Class to Business Suite on your redemption ticket. From now until 30 June 2019, last minute upgrades can be purchased with 10% discount, 3 hours before your flight departure at the check-in counter.

If they're still offering the same prices, the discounted price of $345 for a Business Suite upgrade out of NRT is pretty solid. However, the check-in agents mentioned that they might not end up loading all Business Suite items (caviar, PJs, amenity, etc.) for last minute upgrades.
How was the Business Suite on MH88/70? I flew this a couple of days ago and was hesitating at the counter (they were offering a LMU, cabin was almost empty) but it was in the same range you said - and they explicitly said "food will be the same". So I kinda backed off.

MH70 NRT-KUL was aircraft swapped from an A350 to A330, so nada there.

MH88 KUL-NRT was a redeye (so no caviar, boo) on the A380, for the roulette of extremities you can get with MH cabin crew, the service was slightly above average. There was only one other person in the cabin who probably was an LMU based on the seat map the day before. Its quite common to be the only one, so I think upgrading is worth it on that alone, especially on the A380 where there's direct aisle access and much a upgraded seat (lie-flat recline, wide seat, tons of storage, etc.). Three cabin crew for F, but was mostly serviced by one. Disappointed that I was given the Business amenity kit instead of the Business Suite one with the key chain. Didn't realize until my return trip in business.

Here's a picture of the menu and beverage list. I used Chef on Call for lobster since it's only Business-Suite specific dish you can preorder.

Just went for an Instant Upgrade on BLR-KUL for $195 USD one day before departure Given it's an overnight flight and Y is totally full, hopefully will be a good choice.

Booked a discounted "Z" class (Business) ticket MNL-LHR-MNL for April 2019 via KUL. Did not receive notice of eligibility, but when I clicked around and provided my Booking Ref., I did find the MHUpgrade Option. Cheapest KUL-LHR/LHR-KUL upgrade to Business Suite was USD850 each way. Thought I'd give the LHR-KUL sector a try, as I was on the morning flight MH003. Bid USD860 (couldn't get it to go to USD850); dial said "poor/no chance." I chuckled and forgot all about it. Surprised to receive a "your upgrade has been confirmed!" email about 3 days before the flight.

PROS: Enjoyed flight in general. We were 3/4 in Biz Suites. Noted that no one took my seat in Business, which was only 50% full. Loved the satay and caviar. Male ISM very friendly/chatty. Was met upon arrival by friendly staff who escorted me to F class lounge and took my breakfast order, etc. and waited on me all the way until my connecting flight three hours later. Appreciated the attention, but perhaps was a bit much. She waited outside the entire time I had to use the toilet. Awkward!?

CONS: Seat was narrower than I expected -- same seat as Business? Also amenities kit was same as Business. (I asked why this was so -- was told that since they "rebranded" to Biz Suites, the amenity kit was now the same as Business. (This was clearly NOT what I expected -- and in fact is not the one pictured in the in-flight magazine! I wonder if this is due to my low bid? Would they know that?) Some service niggles -- rang the attendant bell twice as could not find anyone halfway through the flight, and I was feeling peckish. It was ignored. Had to go back to Biz Class section where there were FAs awake. Was served promptly when I asked for tea and a light snack. During breakfast service, I had the Nasi Lemak (delicious!) but was not provided with napkin, for which I had to wave my hand to get attention. Minor niggle, but it was F class after all, and didn't want to fumble through my pockets with sambal sauce on my finger. Also in-flight entertainment not working in my seat; was offered the seat beside me as alternative, which worked fine. But still -- not working on a newish A350?

CONCLUSION: No regrets for trying it out; I can now claim "been there, done that." But I will NOT bid on it again. Biz class satay was fine as well...

Thanks for your review! Thought the Business Suite amenity hiccup on my flight was caused by my crew being so-so, but seems this experience might be more widespread, especially since London F passengers are said to get extra treatment (IE: Private Room in F lounge), but personal escort is news to me! Did they golf buggy you or just walk escort? Seems like a safe bet to bid low for F upgrades, might be since the minimum has increased over time.

If you book an MH business class flight using Oneworld partner miles (for example, BA Avios or American Airlines miles), can you still bid in cash for an MHupgrade to the business suite or pay for a last-minute upgrade to the suite at the counter?

Or are upgrades only allowed when the original fare was paid with cash?

Nope, T&Cs say you have to purchase a ticket with MH for MHupgrade eligibility.
The last minute upgrade might work though.

Thank you. I should have read the T&Cs more carefully myself.

LMU possible for MH award flight booked with oneworld partner?

So, you can't do this via MHupgrade in advance of the travel date, but let's say you've booked an award ticket through a oneworld partner: Are there any data points of last-minute upgrades at the airport being available from MH to such passengers?
