MHUpgrade is MH's implementation of Plusgrade's bid on an upgrade platform.
- You can check if your itinerary is eligible for bidding on an upgrade (most are) on MH's website here, but it typically takes 24-48 hours after the ticket is issued for the itinerary to be in Plusgrade's system
- You cannot bid for flights departing within 72 hours
- Minimum bids are dynamically set based on various factors, and don't appear to change as you get closer to flight departure
- Tip: If you're bidding the minimum, you should consider making the bid in USD unless bidding in your home currency avoids credit card costs that are higher than the difference in pricing (see this post)
- Bid amounts can be changed or withdrawn up to 72 hours from flight departure. It does not appear that you can update the credit card number
- Accepted bids will be processed within the 72 hours window, generally prior to 48 hours to departure
- If your bid is accepted:
- The credit card will be charged
- You will be rebooked in "I" class for business class, "P" class for first class
- You will receive an email notification from Plusgrade
- You will receive an email with your new eTicket from the airline
- Within MH Enrich, mileage accrual is based on the fare class on your original ticket. For partner programs, without manual intervention, your mileage accrual is based on the class you've been rebooked into, not the one from your original ticket. Retro claims based on original booking may be required, it is unclear yet if they will be accepted or not.
- Note that "I" earns nothing, including no segment credits or tier points (it's as if you never took the flight) on AA, BA, CX, and probably other carriers (check your program's information), so from a frequent flyer standpoint you might end up worse off
- There are multiple reports from multiple users in this thread that mileage on partner programs (BA) will be credited based on the earning rates (if any) from original booking class, following manual intervention/claim.
- Please read MH's FAQs
MHUpgrade option, anyone tried it?

It does, but last time I tried a few hours before departure from KUL (home base!), I was told that we would still get J class meal if we paid to upgrade to F (KUL-KIX). Needless to say, that was turned down.
Another brilliant example of MH's brilliant way of driving business

Cant think of any reason why they do not want to do the same for international flight, surely they have spares somewhere in the catering dept. I am sure someone can drive a vehicle and pass the extra F meal directly.
On the other hand, I upgrade myself from Prem Eco to Business in JL using points on day of departure and I got full J service. The catch is the booking class/miles collected will be based on original booking class which is fairly understandable (instead paying for F but stuck with J meal in F seat )

I booked now paid business but just got the offer to place a bid for business suite. What booking class would that be booked in if my offer was accepted?

Suites upgrades book into P class, which is a non-earning booking class just like I on MH.

Yet the minimum bid for PVG-KUL is 750 USD - so far from worth it. Are last minute upgrades usually cheaper ?
#833
Yeah I'm being offered 33K yen (~$290) for KUL-NRT on the overnight on the 380. Flight is F7 so I suspect I should be able to clear with that price, just trying to figure out whether I care enough to, or not...

A data point.
I am looking to fly MNL-KUL-SIN in 2 days time.
I am only interested in the MNL-KUL leg. Previously, the upgrade bid started at $185, then raised to $190. Today it started at $175, with a "buy now" option of $240. Anyway, I opted for the minimum, $175. Then immediately went to "modify" bid to check whether the $240 "buy now" was still available and applied to the whole journey. It wasn't there, but I was able to lower my bid to the new minimum of $150. We wait to see if it is successful.
I wonder if as a general rule there is a lower "minimum bid" in the "modify bid" than in the initial upgrade bid.
UPDATE: Was upgraded after a whole 5 minutes.

Fair comment. My single MNL-KUL-SIN was about 100USD (250usd if you include the upgrade). J fare at the time I booked was 300+ so I know I paid less. SQ who I have used in the past charges about 190USD economy one way (and I am *G and the SQ lounge in Manila is decent for Manila standards).
I need a single as I then have an open Jaw from Singapore which returns to Manila. And I have luggage which negates the LCCs.
I feel 150usd is about the value of the upgrade for myself. I value the MNL lounge at 25USD (as that's the walk in fee with my Credit Card's priority pass) and a flagship lounge in KUL at 50USD. So the better seat is valued at 75USD (I need to nap on that leg).
Granted one might say SQ Y (who serve ice-cream...ICE-CREAM as desert) is better than MH J...and I will soon know (This is my first time on MH). But I live a 6hrs from the MNL airport and I feel a 6am flight may work better than a 2pm flight for me.
I'll let you know what I think

Aren't the PVG flights operated by A330s only? How to upgrade to business suite when there are no business suites on the A330s?

Yes to my knowledge my flight in question is operated by a A330, yet I got the email with the possibility to put in a bid. Maybe they anticipate to change it to a A350 in March 2020 ? Or the system is flawed ?

You will earn based on the booking class of your original ticket (presumably in economy class). You may find you need to do a retrospective claim for the points with evidence of your original booking. Your economy ticket needs to be in Y, B, H, K, M, L, S or V class to earn on AA. Booking classes N, O, Q earn nothing.
